Love, love, LOVE this place! Easily my favorite Japanese restaurant in the state of Oklahoma! The food here is oishii (おいしい), meaning tasty and delicious! If you are a lover of fresh raw ingredients from the seas bounty, then this is place for you (although their cooked options and meals are pretty good too)! Our family and friends have been here so many times that weve definitely lost count, and as Japanese cuisine lovers, it is our go-to when having any type of celebrations. But lets delve into why this is the case, shall we? Tokyo Japanese is located on Western Ave, and if you are trying to locate it in the dark, good luck to you! It can be done, but if your GPS says that you are nearing it, pay close attention and youll see it - a tiny building shrouded in darkness with a few lone lamps to highlight it. The parking is very limited, but if you drive towards the back, you can definitely find a space or two to squeeze in even on the busier nights. What I love about entering Tokyo Japanese - and you can always tell if it is a true Japanese restaurant - is the smell of rice wine vinegar that comes off of the sushi rice used throughout the many dishes. The host and servers seat you immediately in the tiny restaurant, but if you come during a Friday or Saturday night, definitely make a reservation for the place gets packed fast and you can end up waiting for a long, long time. The menu options is enormous and range from sushi, sashimi, cooked dishes, Japanese appetizers, soups (i.e. udon, ramen), combo plates and desserts. The sushi and sashimi here comes HIGHLY recommended, and are seriously mouthwatering at the least, so hopefully you are a fan of their raw seafood bounty (if not, like I said, dont sweat it - theres many options to choose from)! When coming here, we typically order a different appetizer each time and a sushi dinner that comes with their wonderfully flavored miso soup. The options that we tend to gravitate towards is their Omakase Boat, Party Platter, and 100 Sushi; yes, these are EXPENSIVE, but the quality is absolutely divine and a great addition to a celebration dinner or special occasion! Again, the options I listed are not cheap and can make your wallet scream, but it still a household favorite for us; the quality of the fish is absolutely surprising in the landlocked state of Oklahoma, but it sings notes that remind me of my days growing up in Okinawa, Japan. If you are looking for more affordable options, but want to see what I am talking about, order yourself some nigiri or sashimi pieces of at least ONE of the following: white tuna (escolar) salmon, yellowtail, and tuna (ranging from our favorite fish to our 4th favorite). Not many places in Oklahoma do sushi well, but Tokyo Japanese really does. We have also tried their Nabeyaki Udon, Shrimp Tempura (though this is more Panko battered than the tempura battered kind), Pork Katsu and more, and can say that their cooked selection is great too! We also enjoy the servers here too, as most of them, despite being slammed with people each time we are here, are attentive and generally quick to take orders and push out the food. So overall, we really enjoy Tokyo Japanese and it is easily my favorite Japanese restaurant in the state of Oklahoma! Please, please give it a try if you havent already!

Hands down, one of my favorite restaurants in Oklahoma City. Ive been told by friends who have traveled to Japan that the food is authentic, but I have no idea. All I know is that it is delicious. The restaurant is in a little house, and has several areas/rooms to sit in, including a private tatami mat room that can be rented out for parties. They also have a sushi bar where you can watch the sushi chefs making rolls. Their menu has a TON of sushi options, including some very unique ones. In addition, you can get Japanese curry here, which is a dish that I can highly recommend. It is a piece of katsu with rice and a rich gravy poured over the top. It is warm, comforting, and better than spaghetti and meatballs for meeting your comfort food needs. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and I love going here if I am having a bad day. They are always so sweet! The parking lot is pretty small, and kind of awkward, but Ive always been able to find a spot.

When I was told that this is the best sushi in town I was skeptical, but my wife convinced me we should go and I was very impressed. The menu is what you expect from a sushi place, the normal stuff with a lot of house items that are special variations. The prices however were way lower than I expected. Now cheap sushi can be worrisome, but all these worries are laid to rest when the food comes to the table, it is as high quality as I have ever had. The service is very kind and helpful. The environment is wonderful, perfect sushi setting (at least as perfect as you will find in Oklahoma). Their fried ice cream is the best Ive had yet and the presentation is beautiful. I saw a plate coming out and it was love at first sight.

This place is absolutely yummy! My husband and I tried it for lunch today and boy were we ever pleasantly surprised! I am new to this area and have been searching for tasty Teriyaki steak and have been totally disappointed at Sumo, Kabuki, Fuji and Pei Wei. The lunch portions at Tokyo were very large, the flavor and tenderness of the meat was succulent/excellent, the vegetables were awesome and the prices were very reasonable. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The building isnt that attractive but dont let that fool you. Try this place and you will not be disappointed! Cant wait to go back for more!!

The sushi is good but the wait service is slow after you first order your drinks when sitting at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are great. They receive tips from us whenever my spouse and I eat here. However both of the times eating here, the waitress bypassed us too much. They would initially take drink orders and give us a menu then leave for awhile. So long, that the chefs directly take our orders for sushi. Other than this faux paux, the rating would have been higher. Will be exploring other sushi spots to compare.

This is kind of a diamond in the rough. The exterior doesnt look like much but the interior is nice, cozy, and the food is really good. Ive been twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The sushi is as good as, perhaps even a bit fresher than, anywhere else in the city, and the lunch bentos are a great value. I like this place in particular because it isnt as snooty as some of the other places in town. Fewer people who go to be seen, more who just want to eat good food in peace.

No other sushi place in the metro comes close to Tokyo Japanese in ANY category; freshness, service, value, and most importantly, taste. Let those fools vote for Sushi-Neko in the Gazette, I know Im getting better sushi for less money at Tokyo Japanese every time! (Besides, these are the same morons who also voted for Jack and Ron on KYIS *barf*) Save yourself the time, money and frustration that a bad sushi experience can bring and go to Tokyo Japan.
