This cute bakery has been run by its current owners for 39 years. Prior to that, another family ran a bakery here for 45 years. There has been a bakery in this location for a very long time. I stopped here with a coworker today and it was a pleasant break from our fieldwork out in the sun. My coworker got a caramel cupcake that she said was very good, and I could see how fluffy it was. I got a German chocolate cupcake, also good. They also had rolls, small sweet potato and lemon pies, fritters, donuts, and cronuts. Their menu is somewhat small, but there were definitely other offerings--I was too hungry to note them all. There was milk, bottled water, and soda pop to drink in the cooler. The coffee had run out earlier in the day (It was about 1:30pm), but in the morning there is coffee to be had. Credit cards and EBT are accepted for orders totaling at least $5. Otherwise, bring cash. There is a small counter with a few stools if you want to eat there, though I suspect most people carry out. The family running the bakery was very friendly, and this place had a charming old fashioned vibe that has become all too rare these days. The prices are right, too--our cupcakes were a dollar apiece. Next time Im in this area, I will be stopping by to try a mini pie.

This is one of those Detroit area gems that Ive passed a million times before stopping in. Its like stepping back in time, they obviously take time and care with everything they make. I usually get their donuts for my mom. They are always arranged in the box with tissue paper and tied with cotton twine just like back in the day. I also have to agree with another reviewer, best sweet potato pie on the planet. I also recently tried their apple pie, the crust is perfection.

Story goes oldest brother started working in the bakery 1960 his brothers following, they bought the bakery from original owner so a 80 year old Detroit Bakery making the very best Sweet Potato Pie ever. I have been eating here since birth... The have the best cupcakes, cream puffs, twist, sweet potatoes pies and minis as well as lemon pies all in mini too. Anything you get from here will be the bomb.... I loved going to Boynton get to go across to the bakery and get a donut and strawberry milk ummm....

I have been eating here all my LIFE, 48 years young. Everything is good, cookies, cupcakes, bread, fried pies, tarts, and the Cakes, pies & cobblers all to die for ......Yes, yes. Oh the best kept secret is to come early as possible. If you dont live in the area its worth the drive.

Its a small bakery that gives you a grandmothers kitchen type feel. Everything is fresh and delicious. Try the rolls and of course the sweet potato pies. During the holiday get your pies early or youll be without your delicious treat.

Peoples Bakery are the BEST, I started going there when I was going to Boyngton Elementary School across the street in the 1960s, i remember cream puffs were .9cents!!! Absolutely the best!!!!! Linda

The best sweet potato pies in town. Call before you go. The website hours for Saturdays say open 7am - 530pm. I got their at 3pm and they were closed.
