Had a strong hankerin for some good BBQ tonight. Not really any good places for BBQ near ellenwood so I decided to try this little hole in the wall place on Hwy 42 in Rex called Tookes Country BBQ. Walked in and the door almost hit a family style table when a family was having dinner. Everyone in the place stopped to look at me. You know the scene in the movie when someone walks into a place and it gets real quiet. Yup, that what it was, I felt like I had walked into someones home interupting there dinner. I stepped to the counter of this tiny place and when the guy asked what I wanted I said I would need to find out what my wife wanted. I stepped out to call, came back in to place the order and was completely ignored. The guy actually left to go get his phone and charger out of his car, came in plugged it up and sat down. Wow, I politely left without a word. What a shame because the food looked and smelled really good.

I had high hopes after reading reviews. Well who ever wrote reviews must have some kinda personal connection.! The biggest waste of $37.99 I took one bite of potato salad & one bite of beans the salad was the nastiest I ever tasted in my 50 years. More like mustard cream. Beans were just yuck. Bbq pork was so so very fatty. Tea was spoiled. Stew was OK but wouldnt go out of my way to get anymore . Had stop get some baby limas to add in only had few peas & lit bit corn . Husband said too sweet like tomatoe with sugar . I give him a 5 on stew. But very didappointed. Now know why parking lot always empty. Sorry for bad review just keep in it real dont want anyone else go in with mouth watering for something & their dogs get $20 worth food in one meal . Yes I eat stew with little doctoring up & tea poured out on road .

I read the reviews and I dont understand the negative ones. The ribs were juicy and flavorful. The mac and chesse was gooey and the greens were not tart. What else does one want from a good "q" joint? The lack of modern deco makes this a proper q joint. I grew up in South Texas were the q is a serious matter and this place can compete. If you are looking for fancy deco and cute girls in tank tops this is not your place. If you want good q and fixins then hurry up.

The food was okay, but I am terribly upset due to the fact my food total was $33.20 but Mr. Tookes charged my card $39.84. Thank GOD I asked for a copy of the receipt. Word of advice, take cash to pay for your food. My husband and I will never eat here again. We have not problem tipping if the service and food is worthy of it, but do not take it upon yourself to tip yourself. If you needed it, ask for it...dont take it.

Awesome food, today I had two tasty side dishes (Mac cheese and collard greens) with the 5 smoke BBQ wings. The food is consistently good: It not my first, second, 3rd, 4th, and so......on you get the picture. I make it there about once or twice a month. Mr. Tooke keeps providing wonderful service and amazing food for the community. May God continue to Bless You and Your Family.

The chopped bbq sandwich is awesome. Its kind of a sloppy bbq with lots of sauce that tastes amazing. Probably one of the best around atlanta, and im a regular at fox bros (which is probably the best). Some reviewers said the place was nasty. Its not the ritz carlton folks, it a bbq shack and fits that bill perfectly. If your in this part of town you should give it a try.

Its a really cute place, small but so comforting. The greeter wasnt all that pleasant, Ill just assume he was having a bad day. The food is so delicious, flavorful, tender. I got the ribs Mac and cheese and okra. Okra is fried to perfection. Toast is buttery and crispy. Bbq sauce is good too. I will be returning! Check this place out if your in Rex area.

I finally tried this bbq today. I was not pleased. The atmosphere was so dead inside. I ordered ribs and he soaked them in bbq sauce. I dont like that. I like to just taste The meat first. The sausage and sides was bland but okay. The grilled toast was great tho. The price was too high as well. I dont think i will go back there NO WAY!!!!

BBQ cooked old school with the sauce in the meat like its supposed to be! The BBQ is off the chain and theres so much meat on the sandwich you have to knock some off with a fork first! The vegetables are all fresh and the dessert is great! The owner is kind and responsive to your needs. Great overall experience and well worth the drive.

1st time here and as soon as I walked in I was greeted good customer service. Kind of has a back in the day, counry hole in the wall feel with the look of the place and the blues/old school r&b playing.....I love it. Very positive atmosphere. The food is also great but the potato salad a little too sweet to me. Ill be back

Ive had better or equal BBQ frozen from the grocery store and I did hear the *buzz* of them microwaving my side dishes so Im fairly sure they were from a can. Just pass this one by.

Its small and cozy alright, but also clean and friendly. But the most important part is the food, which is awesome! My favorites are the baked beans, potato salad, and ribs!
