We had high expectations, but were greatly disappointed. The Wedge salad was missing the bacon or there was too little to notice. The avocado on the Ancient Grains salad was so unripe, it was hard as a rock. They tried to hide it by cutting into little pieces. Then our waitress decided to put our meal in early so we wouldnt have to wait on a large party. So, our entrees came out only a few minutes after our salads. She offered to hold them in the kitchen, but we figured they would be better fresh, than after sitting under a heat lamp. Unfortunately, they tasted like they had already been sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while. The seabass was barely warm and the cheese in the risotto had coagulated and not creamy at all. The mahi mahi was also not hot and sauce had thickened and did not even look appetizing. They couldnt even cut the woody stalks off of the ends of my asparagus. The waitress did try to be nice by offering a complementary desert for the meal coming out early. We said thanks, but did not really want it. A few minutes later a salted caramel brownie appeared that we didnt order or want. If you are going to offer a free desert for poor service, at least ask what we like. Extremely disappointed and will not be returning. Complete waste of money.

My husband and I have been eager to eat at Salt ever since we heard about it opening on Mass Ave. We were not one bit disappointed with our experience. First off, its absolutely beautiful in there. You almost forget that youre in Indianapolis. After reading rave reviews about the calamari, we started with it, and ordered the Jeweled Mule and Mass Appeal (with Bulleit Rye instead) to drink. Calamari - YES and that sweet chili sauce - I could have bathed in it!!! The Jeweled Mule and Mass Appeal were tasty as well. I ordered the Tuna with kimchee from the menu. The tuna is ever so slightly seared and delectable and the sauce and kimchee were perfect accompaniments. My husband ordered the nights special - halibut with scallops and risotto. Also amazing! Our server, Shaun, was attentive, but not overbearing - just right in my opinion. We will definitely be back! Sooner rather than later!

I had an absolute horrible experience at this establishment and I would never go back and I do not recommend anyone to waist their money. Firstly, I absolutely love trying out new restaurants, especially seafood. The experience we encountered was a bit ridiculous. My husband witnessed what we later found out was "one of the investors" (white hair) snorting cocaine in the mens bathroom, we asked someone who he was and later found out how unprofessional he sincerely is, what a great example, smh. The chef or a kitchen staff was upset with a server and was yelling loud enough for customers to hear (male). Although we had good service you can see how overworked and stressed a lot of the restaurants workers really are. The prices are five star and the quality is low key, I am warning everyone not to waste there time at Salt on Mass, you will be disappointed.

We had our family in town and went in here, ordered martinis. They all came in a regular sized glass and were HALF FULL!! We complained and the waiter sent a manager to our table who explained our drinks are all measured and these are over sized glasses. * We have martinis 3 nights per week and trust me, these were regular sized glasses. OK, food came and was terrible. My brother had fish on a rice bed and the rice was not even cooked. He sent it back and upon return it did get cooked. This was a Sunday night at 7 pm and we were the only people in here. That should have tipped us off - this place is FAILING!!! If you want a great meal, drinks and staff, go elsewhere. Dan and family in Indy.

Fresh seafood cut in a scratch kitchen. Service was impeccable- professional without going over the top, approachable and friendly. Cocktail, beer and wine selection all seemed carefully thought out. Ambiance is warm, hip, chic, trendy, yet without pretentiousness. The price is on the higher side, but after speaking with the manager and discovering the quality and sustainability of seafood offered, adding in our partys experience and the impressive surrounds and city views- I cant imagine rating less than 5 stars. Salt on Mass left us feeling as if we cruised on a luxury liner through a sea of downtown city lights on a Friday night. Well done and excited to return.

WAY underwhelmed.... Hostess was distracted. Server was slow and after first visit did not come back to the table for at least 15 minutes. The martini I ordered was meh... So the food: NO. We both ordered "specials" . My Sashimi/ Sashimi dish was served with less than a teaspoon (barely a bite) of each selection. It was served on a salt block. All of it tasted as though it had soaked in a salt bath for a week before being served - everything tasted the same: SALTY. My partners dish was simply standard - reminded me of something you would order from Applebees!!!!! And... the price was utterly ridiculous - NEVER again, I WILL NOT recommend this restaurant.

I would go back for the Watermelon Caprese salad alone! It is literally the best salad Ive ever eaten in my life. The combination of sweet and salty with a little crunch from the watermelon and the lovely baby basil, topped with mixed berries, was absolutely scrumptious. I literally considered ordering another one for dessert! The rest of the meal was very good, and the service was fine but not exceptional. Adore the orchid garnishes! We went on a Wednesday night, which is live music night, and quite loud. Our table was just long enough that we had to yell a bit to hear one another.

Walking down Mass Avenue recently I was struck by how bright and inviting this new restaurant is. I wanted to enter right away but they werent open yet. Recently they did open and I was impressed by how much light there is and how elegant simplicity can be. I was more interested in several of their excellent cocktails than food but what I did eat was fresh. The staff was friendly and offered several good selections. They also patiently answered my questions as Im always curious about a new place. If you want to celebrate or enjoy a nice date then this place is perfect for you.

Literally the worst dining experience I have ever had. The food is way over priced for what it is, and the service was terrible! Somehow they also managed to lose my credit card, and were never able to find it. Kelly was our server, and she literally had not a clue what was going on in that restaurant. James was the manager on duty, and was probably the most unprofessional manager ever. Im patiently waiting to hear from the owners of this establishment......we will see how long that takes.

If youre looking for seafood in Indianapolis, either here or Oceanaire is where you want to go. Its expensive, but you have to expect that with good seafood in Indiana. The restaurant has a modern feel to it, and a number of specialty cocktails. Ive tried the steak here too and its good, but there are so many great steakhouses in Indianapolis, that you should only come here if youre looking for seafood.
