I went to this place for the first time yesterday and fell in love! The atmosphere is a perfect little "hole in the wall" theme that makes you want to know everyone by name (which many people did the night I was there - even customers knowing other customers)! The place is so small that I felt like everyone was eating as one big family (I found this kind of fun). We sat at the sushi bar and the chef was polite and authentic while not being overly pushy or talkative. The wait staff was a little overhwelmed that night but I think it was because of understaffing. Our waitress was very polite about apologizing for delays. Last but far from least, the sushi was amazing! So fresh and vibrant! I ordered a combo platter which allowed me to try several different types of sushi, plus a roll! All for under $20! I cant wait to keep trying this place and find my "regular" seat and dish!

Definitely give this place a try! I love it! Tonight was our first dinner there and we will definitely be back for more! It feels so casual, warm and welcoming inside, every staff member is super polite. I regret that I havent taken any pictures of our rolls and nigiri, but seriously just get in here ant try it. I love little family joints like this one and happy to support small business especially when its well deserved. P.S. Sushi was so good I cant even stop telling my husband how much I liked it;)

The sushi was fresh and had good flavor. I will not be returning though, because the cost is very high for the portions they serve. Some rolls I ordered were $11.95 and hardly worth the price when they arrived the table. There are definitely better quality locations for a much more reasonable overall cost. Maybe that explains why my table was the only one present at 715pm. Not another customer in sight. Overall.....food is good but make sure you are ready to pay and not be completely satisfied.

Best sushi in the Midwest! I have been to multiple places in Chicago and major cities in the Midwest, but nothing compares to the quality and portions of Asahi. Sato, the owner, treats every table as if they were visiting his home in this cozy restaurant and may even share a drink with you. I could go on and in about every great item in the menu but you have to just try it yourself. Must haves: Tuna tartare, sexy roll, Mongolian roll, fire dragon roll and any sashimi recommended by Sato.

I love the food and I love the chefs here. Some say its expensive but you get what you pay for. Also, it helps to ask the sushi chefs what they recommend. If youre looking for something plain or typical you could go elsewhere, but their fancy rolls are just amazing. This is a hole-in-the-wall place, not too fancy, but if youre coming for great sushi and the company of some friendly chefs, youve found the right place.

I have been going to this restaurant for 15 years - 2 owners. They always make you feel welcome, are attentive but never pushy, and the food is always fresh. If you want Asian Fusion or especially creative items, go to Sushi Ai in Palatine and expect to pay a lot more. But if you want a good, reliable meal, where you can hear and enjoy the people you are with, then this is a great place.

So good! We stopped there before going to a concert for a quick bite and I cant wait to go back! Inside is warm and cozy and feels just like youre tucked inside in a big city. The people working were so friendly, and of course the food was great! A lot of regulars having dinner while we were there made the atmosphere very welcoming. Yum!

Been going to Asahi for years and its getting better everytime I visit. The owner (Sato) is very creative sushi chef. Just tried several of his new concoction and it was so tasty (firebird and volcano). I highly recommend Asahi for the food and the friendlyness of the owner and staff. You will not regret it.

Im not a sushi connoisseur, but I loved this place! I had the volcano roll followed by a lava roll (of course) and I may order the same two rolls every time I come here! They were so so tasty. The service was excellent and price was on point. Definitely worth a try if you are at all interested

Excellent sushi with prime cuts of fish. Nice cozy atmosphere whether youre at the bar or a booth. Sato is an enthusiastic and friendly chef who makes you feel like family. Stay late enough and you might even get to hear him sing. His karaoke setup is legit.

There are only two Sushi places in Palatine that I like and this is one of them. Very friendly owner and staff, good sushi, and saki. Its usually never overly busy so getting a table usually isnt an issue.
