Horrible horrible horrible service by our waiter, if I could give negative stars I would. We had a table of four and out for my birthday with our adult daughters and no other plans so we had tolerance on our side... But this guy was just plain terrible and truly ruined our expensive dish but not our evening because we are tolerant but the flame went out and he didnt return to relive it, we couldnt get his attention then he promised (I asked him specifically to return when its time to eat so he said I promise to be back before its done) yet it over boiled and he didnt return until we decided to eat not knowing and we were actually finished, that takes a bit of time to be gone. Excuses excuses and one of the three times he checked on us he said that the reason he didnt return with our drinks because the bar was waiting on volcano drink glasses - yet we were REFILLLING our empty volcano glass so Im guessing he uses that excuse a lot without thinking. Check came without a single word or thank you no opportunity to ask waiter for anything else...and more importantly didnt ask us for desert.... After 20 some odd years of Nakashima birthday photos this is the first time I left with out one and when I finally got his attention to ask if they did that at this location he spun around (before I could say never mind dont bother) and dashed in my mid sentence into the kitchen and we again didnt see him for another 10 minutes so we finally left. Unfortunately we Americans tip well because we are polite and last night was no exception but he truly deserved to be stiffed... Which Id never do. If you feel like you were busy last night perhaps you should go out more because Id say you were not since several empty tables and only a few people in the bar might be an indicator. Waiter had lots of excuses. Poor service didnt ruin the night as I was with great company however it did inspire this review. I once waitresses at a high end restaurant and I own my own biz. This review is nicer than deserved and we wont be back to this location, too many other places to eat.

Ive had better sushi. I ate here maybe 2 weeks ago and the whole experience was so bad I have to leave a review. Giving this place 2 stars is being generous because Im not a bad person. So first off the service is so slow even for take out at 8pm. I ordered 3 rolls and a salad that took an hour. AN HOUR! What the heck, right? 30 minutes? Yeah I could do that and that was what they told me. I show up in 30 minutes and its not ready and itll be another 20 minutes. Hmm...okay, Ill grab a drink at the bar. The only saving grace to the place was the good beer I had based upon the bartenders recommendation (White Hitachino, in case anyone cares). After 20 minutes Im getting hangry and want my food but nope, sorry gonna be another 10 minutes. WHAT?! They better be catching my fish fresh from the ocean and harvesting the rice in the time I was waiting! Damn...No apology or anything because waiting an hour for 3 rolls must be normal around here. Alright, I get my food and figure Ill calm down but honestly the rolls I got were slightly better than the gas station sushi I can get in Vancouver, Canada if gas station sushi was having bad day. Youre probably blaming me at this point because youre thinking why I would ever get sushi in small town middle America and the answer is: You dont, I regret my decision that night. There is never a good reason even if youve eaten nothing but burgers, Italian, steaks, Chipotle, or cheese curds for the last month and youre missing sushi--just dont get it here. It cost $35USD for what I probably couldve gotten for $20CAD back home. No, it did not come garnished with gold leaf for that price. To top it off they even gave me the wrong salad. At least I was charged for the wrong salad instead of the other one I didnt get. SUMMARY: I didnt like it here.

Not for families with small children! Now I realize that this review will not pertain to everyone, but if you are going with small children, go elsewhere! I have 2 kids (1&5). We went there for our 5 yo birthday, she loves sushi. Ordered 2 kiddie cocktails, they came out in 16oz glasses! Not geared to children, they could have gone swimming in these things. I asked to order off both the sushi menu and the hibachi menu because my 1yo doesnt like sushi. I was told we were on the sushi side and that was the menu we could order off of, not both. I asked if they had eggdrop soup (my last resort for something to feed my angry 1yo) and the server looked at me like I was speaking german...something clear...do you have a clear soup? His response was "yes, it has mushrooms and stuff" . What is the "stuff" I asked, his response was "Im not sure"....We left, at this point....$12 wasted on drinks we never drank and angry, hungry children. We went to GingerRootz and had an AMAZING time! Great food for everyone! Awesome service.

My friend and I ate here before a concert at the PAC. We made reservations for 5pm and arrived shortly after 5pm. We were not seated at our table until 5:45pm because the restaurant was waiting for enough people to fill the table. We called days before the concert to make reservations and told the worker that we needed to be out the door by 7pm to make the concert. The worker said that she would write that down by our names. Needless to say because we were not even seated until 5:45pm we had to take our food to go and put it in our cars to eat after the performance. We got to the PAC right at 7:30pm. The hostess was very rude when we complained about how the evening had gone. She told us that the concert wasnt for another 30 minutes and we would be fine to stay and eat up until the concert start! Will never go back there again. Very poor service.

I was told that Katsu-Ya and Nakashimas are the same restaurant due to the fact that the owners are father and son. First off, the food is great. I think the food is great due to the fact of the owners.. However, I was very disappointed with the fact that at Katsu-Ya you have to cook your own food on a small grill at your table. They dont give you sauces to cook the food with, they give you three small sauces to dip in, but nothing to cook with. The waiter greases the grill before he turns it on, but the meat is cut SO finely, when you put it on the grill and want to flip it, the meat rips apart because he didnt put enough grease on it. Very disappointed. Nakashimas will continue to be my go-to place to eat.

Courtesy matters, lest you forget. I left, without eating. Hostess directed me to bar, I wanted sushi. I admit I followed her direction poorly, but nonetheless I found the EMPTY sushi bar & attempted to sit down. I was promptly met by a server who needed to know how I got there, and instructed me that I wasnt "sat" at this empty sushi bar. No effort was made to "seat" me properly, nor was this offered. Again: there were 12 empty seats at this bar. Ive waited tables, bartended, etc. Id suggest next time a man in a suit shows up ready to spend money, you get him a seat. Took my 80$ elsewhere. Asshat move.
