This place is so far the best place to have sushi (if you know what youre eating) in Chicago. Im Asian and when I used to live in Korea I used to eat the most expensive sushi available in the market. I wouldnt say this place would top a $10.00 piece OToro from a 5 star hotel right near the beach; however, given the condition of Chicago, this place is outstanding. The store is very authentically Japanese and if you have a group of more than 4 try sitting in one of their rooms (it is very authentically Japanese). Along with the great service I get, this place has great sushi. I dont know about rolls, since I dont eat too much rolls (for those who dont know rolls arent originally from japan), but the sushi is always fresh, nicely cut, and the rice is just perfect. Not to mention their noodles are also amazing as well. Price is very reasonable for what you are eating. For those "Americanized" customers out there who would rather perfer fried or grilled food over fresh high quality sushi, it is possible that you would feel like the food is blend (try more wasabi in the soysauce, which is also home made). Ive eaten in a lot of places and in many different countries and I would definately recommend this place to people who know what theyre eating. This place is the place to go when I want "real" food. Btw the spagetti is a "napolitan spagetti" and its suppose to taste like ketchup, it is a popular menu in Japan (Spagetti developed to fit Japanese taste, like Japanese Curry is very different from the Indian Curry).

We tried this restauraunt based on the high ratings it received from visitors, and we were sorely disappointed. The issue started with us (myself and two friends) waiting 15 minutes to get a table in a nearly empty section. The atmosphere of the majority of the restauraunt was respectable (with private rooms that looked to be rather upscale), but unfortunately the area we were seated seemed to be the forgotten corner. A tv and lights were there, but not on...giving the feeling of it being more like a multi-purpose room rather than part of the restaurant. That aside, the service was slow and unhelpful. The waiter didnt know the menu, and Im pretty sure they forgot about us since it took 20minutes for him to return to get our drinks/food...and at least another 45min to get our check after asking for it. The food we ordered was sub par for the $80 we spent...the meats were fatty and bland, though the sushi was fair to midlin. We will not be returning to this establishment.

At first it seemed that everyone in the place spoke only Japanese, but we found the wait staff to be very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself was not in good repair. The door leading in was missing trim, slammed every time it closed and wasnt firmly attached to the wall it should be a part of. The walls were missing paint, the ceiling had obvious damage and in general it felt like a bit of a dive. Now, onto the sushi. We ordered only maki rolls (of which there wasnt much variety). The rolls tasted fishy and werent particularly appealing, other than the spider roll. All of the product in the sushi bar coolers was wrapped in plastic and many of the items seemed to be made in bulk and were packaged to be stored for a while. I cant comment on any of the other food, but Ill say that Id choose Minami instead (new owner is great and the sushi is a lot more fresh and better tasting, in my opinion), if we are staying close to Schaumburg.

This is real Japanese food. Not what you get most places here, but what you would eat in Japan. I had takoyaki that tasted as good as they did last time I was at the little neighborhood place in Kyoto. Traditional and contemporary menu items are excellent. Everything is very fresh and beautifully served. A dessert my friend and I had the first time I went was very traditional. It had mochi, kinako, brown sugar syrup and vanilla ice cream. So good! The waitress said the chef was surprised, not many people ordered it because of the traditional taste. That was the exact reason I ordered it, and it was so delicious. This is a place for people that want to eat really good, really Japanese food. Dont be intimidated if you see a lot of Japanese people. Thats a good thing. If you want all you can eat sushi, this isnt the place for you.

Sorry Peter, but sushi is Japanese. You being Asian (Korean) has nothing to do with knowing good sushi. Being Japanese myself, I second your opinion, however. In the northwest suburbs, this is by far one of the best and most authentic Japanese restaurants. One thing that I always look for is that the sushi chef is Japanese, which he is. I have only encountered Japanese waiters as well. The price is very reasonable. I have come here for over 7 years because the sushi is cut in generous portions and at fair prices. They also have numerous authentic Japanese dishes that are delicious as well. I highly recommend this for anyone that is looking for a real Japanese restaurant.

Restaurant could use some refreshing in the entrance, make it more attractive and welcoming. There is a desk, but Ive never seen anyone there. You just walk in and they sit you. The service is good. Some servers speak Japanese. The food, in my opinion, is delicious. Its a tapas style Japanese Restaurant, but you can also get full dinner sets. I love their Napolitano Spaghetti, daikon salad, and spicy tuna, and many others. This is authentic Japanese food, not like other restaurants that say Japanese food, but are more like Taco Bell.

If I could give it over five stars, I would. I went here for my birthday and all of the employees were the nicest people I have ever met. They went way out of their way to make us happy, like by even helping me tie the back of my dress. Even the other people eating there were extremely friendly! It is hands down the best sushi I have had, and the prices are reasonable. I easily would have paid more for as good as quality as they give us. I definitely plan on coming back as often as I can, Im just sad I live a few hours away.

This place is definitely not as good as the review. Ive been there enough times, but the non-sushi food never comes out hot. I can understand if it takes a long time but comes out hot at the end, but its always cold there. What are they doing with the food back there, have it sit there and let it cool? The food itself is pretty plane, nothing impressive...average at best. Sushi is ok...nothing impressive. Sankyu is by far the better choice in the suburb.

Best sushi around. Been here at least a dozen times & its always top notch. Ive never had any bad experiences with staff or the food. Staff is always very nice & attentive and the sushi is unbelievable. The rainbow rolls & spicy lobster rolls are the best Ive ever had. The taste & quality of the fish is unmatched by anyone Ive been to in the area. The Yaki Udon is fantastic as well. Cant recommend this place enough.

Service was bad.. we waited in line with out anyone contacting us for about 20 min. And the waitress left our table in the middle of us talking and ordering! And we were never checked on by our waitress. sushi was also not good by any means in comparison to other locations near by..i have no idea why people gave this place good review. I usually never write reviews but I had to after this experience.
