Tonight I ate at Thumka Indian Bar & Grill for the first time and I was so very pleased! I have sampled many restaurants in the local area such as Gaylords, India House (Schaumburg & Chicago), Indian Garden, Milan Chat, BBQ Tonight, and some others. I must say that Thumka Holds its own against many of these restaurants without any problems. I really enjoyed the food! It had such a rich taste. As you ate the curry you could taste the mix of all the spices and it left a wonderful after taste. If you like bland or plain Indian food, then you will probably not enjoy this restaurant as it is VERY tasty with a very lively after taste. We received Indian Cracker Bread like many restaurants, but this recipe was very tasty with a nice after taste and a saltiness. Usually I am not a big fan of this cracker break but I LOVED theirs. We got 1 order of Samosa and they were very good. My wife and I eat Samosa all the time and we thoroughly enjoyed them! They were spicy, which I never had before but had so much flavor and a great after taste. We shared a portion of Butter Chicken and it was fantastic! We asked for medium heat (Glad I did not get HOT) and it was so very tasty and had a nice kick to it!! We also ordered buttered Naan with our meal which was cooked very well to be nice and moist, not burned or dry like many restaurants. We also had Safrani Pulao (Saffron Flavored basmati rice) and it was so very tasty. This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants along with Milan Chat and India House Downtown Chicago! Please give this restaurant a try! You will not regret it. The prices were very fair and lower than many other high quality restaurants. They also have a lunch buffet which I will be trying very soon!

Downgrading the rating from 4 to 1. From the time they reopened after a hiatus, the quality of the food has been going down every week. But this time took the cake! We reached the place at 1pm, and the buffet is supposed to be open till 3. The first thing that I noticed is that the glasses had oily finger stains and dried food marks. All the glasses. Obviously the cleaning station does not bother. The next thing was that the plates at the food station had dried food stuck to them. We had to hunt through the stack to find clean plates. Somebody should notify the Health Inspection department that this place has become a health risk. Just on this count, this place should be probably shut down. The food was a disaster — not only were the stations empty, nobody was even checking to see whether they needed refilling. That is probably also because there were no patrons around, so nobody bothers to put up food since there is nobody to eat. Complaining to the sole person around there that there was no food brought shoulder shrugs. Eat whatever is there, pay and leave — that was what we were told. Well, this place was awesome six months back —but after the new management took over, it seems that they are intent on running this place into the ground, and as fast as possible.

I am not a guy who gives negative reviews but this time I couldnt resist. First of all save your bucks, spend them where it is worth, but this place is not worth at all. Poor taste and poor service is what you will get in return of money you will spend here. Owner doesnt even know what his manager is doing to ruin his business. I went to this restaurant to eat thali, first of all all thali itself is very expensive for the quality of food these people serve here. In my first starter, I found that food was stale. As I call their manager (Mr. no smile and with I dont give a f*** attitude) he just took away my dish and doesnt even bother to say anything about it. He never came back to my table to say anything. Other servers served me rest of the portion of thali. After I had my thali, I went to reception to pay the cheque, and this manager asked me "How was everything?", as if he didnt know what happened. I felt so pissed off, but then I thought there is no point of arguing with that guy and I decided to cut Thumka from my eating joints list.

I went to this location last night with my family, very disappointing place, we order buffet with my family . called ahead of the time that we are coming. they are not prepared at all. we started dinner pani puri, there is no chana, no patotos no water for pani puri. we order naan came after 30 minutes. our food in dishes get cold still naan did not came. malai kofta vegetable has no kofta only gravy. The Dal Fry was very old. very poor service. and top of that when we paid the bills they charge us 15 % tip on top of the bill The service i got very ppor and still they charge us lot a money that is not acceptable at all . i am not prefer to go there again and i am going to tell my friends do not ever go this location. there are so many restaurant in this area but do not go this place.Do not waste your money at this place. i am going to go to Shikara restaurant at downers grove location is one of the best i ever visit.

Great food, great location, and great atmosphere. It was nice to be at the restaurant where tables were nicely spaced. Service has also always been consistently excellent. From the bar to the restaurant, everyone is friendly and accommodating. Service for me has always been great - never rushed, never super slow, a good mix. Also, the servers are willing to ask about tweaking menu items - which is always great. Service for me is a 5. The bathrooms are ok, nothing spectacular, but definitely clean and a nice space - a 4. The food here is always consistently good. Ive been happy with all of my meals at this spot. Having never had a bland or unfortunate dish, I have to go with a 5 for food. As to value, aside from the deals mentioned above, the menu items (food and drinks) are reasonably priced and I feel value is quite good. A 5 for value. 4.9 - rounds to a 5. Ill definitely be back next weekend.

I have no words to describe this place. Just phenomenal. The first bite of food transported me back to india where I used have such an amazing food made by my mom. Truly very authentic indian food, tastes really really good. I live in heart of downtown Chicago gold coast with really good restaurants but the food here beats them all, easy! In addition you ll feel that food was freshly made for you after receiving your order and not something made in morning , heated up and served to you. Especially paneer tasted so fresh. The staff was also very welcoming and helpful in suggesting food based on our taste and how spicy we wanted it to be. Ambiance is great and location was clean. If you love indian food, this is the place to be!! Cant miss it! Would have driven even 3 hours to eat here totally worth it. Please try food here you wont regret it..

We visited this restaurant first time with two other couples Host did not care we were waiting to be seated.Host did not wecome us or no smile.Host was constantly chewing tobacco. After seated, looking at menu we decided to have their thali waiters who filled our thalis did not wear any gloves.By the time they prepared 6 thalis and brought to us food was cold did not taste to its flavor at all. After eating host brought us check charged for 8 people instead of 6 when we caught that and asked him to correct it he took good 5 minutes to bring correct check and did not even smile,no thank you or no appology for bringing wrong amount check. We paid it and host never responded with thank you.$17/person plus gratuity was not worth at all.We are not planning to visit this restaurant at all.Bad attitude of host and not professional at all.
