Now occupying the old Rockin Rogers/Willamette Burger Company building on Broadway -- and with considerable improvements inside and out -- is Salems newest Chinese restaurant, China Gourmet. We were lucky to get a table immediately on this busy night and the dining room stayed full for the duration of dinner. Word has spread that this is really good Chinese food! The service is fast and friendly and shouldnt disappoint. The menu lacks descriptions save the dishs title, which sometimes is enough, and we werent sure if we could order family style. Instead, we passed around our plates taking tastes from each other. Ill definitely be back. Combination dinners would be much appreciated.

We have gone to China Gourmet around 4 times within the past 3 months and the food is always delicious and large portioned. My Fiancée and I love their fried rice, and their hot and sour soup is amazing and spicy. They put so many fresh veggies in the soup and their Sesame Chicken is large chunks of white meat with a light batter and delicious sauce. I order it medium but my other half says that mild is more of a true "medium" heat level found in most places. The food does not leave you feeling gross or bloated like a lot of American Chinese restaurants weve tried in Salem. They have always had attentive service and extremely fast take-out. Go and try it, you wont regret it.

Any Chinese place Ive bought lunch from always gives me the main course in a separate container than the rice. This take out was in one container and was basically entirely rice. Sauce had run into the rice making it soupy. Whenever Ive bought Shrimp and Snow Peas in the past from other restaurants I get a substantial amount of protein. Usually 10-15 shrimps. This came with 5. Very little vegetable as well. All rice. Over priced for the value. Food may be good but take your business elsewhere if youre wanting to actually get your protein in for the day. Very disappointed with the ethic here for having such great reviews.

They have the best Chinese chef in Salem and easily the best Chinese food. Bingo and his wife Jade are the owners and they make you feel welcome as well as provide an authentic atmosphere. They are both Chinese and have good taste in food and decor. Ive been to China a few times and the way they prepare food here is the only real comparision in Salem. Also, they can accommodate a take out order in less than 10 minutes, even with a packed house. Model of efficiency and good Asian flavor here. Id easily vouch for this place to anyone.

Awesome awesome awesome food! Went there last night with my beautiful wife. Asked for the Kung Pao Trio and was given the choice of mild, medium, or hot. Got exactly the hot I asked for! Could taste the individual items in the dish (chicken tasted like chicken, beef like beef, carrot like carrot, etc... Not just one big mashup of stuff). Everything had a great flavor, meats just fell apart in your mouth like it had been slow roasted. All in all I loved it! I will be going back!

I dont understand all if these "wonderful" ratings. The food was bleh. I had fried rice, which was white rice mixed with vegetables and eggs. Wth? There was nothing yummy about the food. Generic noodles and vegetables. Definitely not worth 25$ for 2 people. When your cheap ass meal comes with 2 shrimps in the mix and the rest is mostly rice or noodle fillers. Definitely do not recommend the waste of money. Youd be far better off making chow mein at home.

This is one of those hole in the wall restaurants that you go in not expecting much, but come out pleasantly surprised. The menu is small, but the food is absolutely amazing. In addition to that, I was shocked at how quickly they made my food. The place only has maybe 7 or 8 tables total, but the food is worth it! Im huge on Chinese food, and this is so far the best Chinese food Ive found in Salem! Oh, also if you pay cash you get a 10% discount!!!

The China Gourmet is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that everyone talks about. Limited seating and a small kitchen means some of the best food youve ever eaten is coming your way. Clearly, this is a great example of that, with the Chinese style noodle. The lunch we had was an amazing representation of Old World style cooking. This place had huge portions along with great flavor and we will give it a two thumbs up.

Absolutely LOVE this place! Friendly customer service and small peaceful environment. Discovered it on a whim over two years ago and was amazed at the quality of the food. Absolutely delicious every single time. Fresh ingredients and a huge plate of food for a great price. I leave with a full tummy every time. My mouth waters just at the thought of their food!

This is the best Chinese food we have ever had! The ingredients are fresh, made to order, and no MSG. The flavors and sauces are unique and delicious! Susan is such a gracious server. Pricing and portion sizes are reasonable and satisfying. We cannot drive by this place without mysteriously winding up in the parking lot...Such a treat!

Great food and service. I went with my family and we all ate the Happy Family, Chicken Fried rice, and some soups and drinks. All for $27, and we really loved it. Very clean and not at all greasy or soggy. Bingo (owner) came over and introduced him self and offered help around town since we are from out of town. Great guy!

The food was excellent. It was brought to us in less than 10 minutes. They have sit down and to-go options. There was only one server to 8 tables but she was still friendly. The place is very small but it has a welcoming feeling. Nice big heater inside. The serving sizes are good for their value. No complaints!

I have only been here once, so I reserve the right to edit this in the future. However... I was very impressed on my first visit. The atmosphere is very nice, and the service was friendly and fast. More importantly, the food was so good. Delicious and seemed so fresh. It is worth a try if you are in the area.

I had a good experience and I like the fact that they dont use MSG. Prices are affordable and the food is tasty. Service takes about 10 minutes but it varies because they get a lot of take out orders. My favorite is their Kung Pao chicken with fried rice: the rice is fluffy and not greasy at all.

Always outstanding, fresh and consistent. Not your typical Chinese chow yuck and chow mein, in fact if you are looking for those you will not find them on the menu. Best potstickers around too. Small, intimate setting which is spotlessly maintained. Service is also excellent.

So good!! Fresh made straight to table. We would have never stopped here just by driving by, we looked at reviews of nearby places and China Gourmet come up just 5 miles from where we were. We will be back next time we are in Salem!!
