The first and only authentic Japanese restaurant Ive ever been to. If youve been wanting to experience authentic Japanese culture beyond a sushi roll from Publix, I recommend Shibui. You can sit on the chairs at tables on the first floor and eat as normal, or sit on the floor on cushions on the second floor for an experience thats more traditionally Japanese (the ambiance on second floor is a bit more romantic also). All the food on the menu is Japanese only, not a random conglomeration of the various different Asian cultures like Chinese, Korean, or Thai. Thats true from the appetizers down to the desserts (i.e. they have two flavors of ice cream, green tea and red bean). The menu is pretty long and names the dishes, but doesnt really describe what they are, so I recommend familiarizing yourself with some of the plates. I had to Google what a "katsu" was and what made a dish "tempura". I should also mention that I love sushi and have eaten at many different takes on at many different places. That said I tried a classic sushi roll consisting of just Salmon, white rice, and nori on the outside and I can say it was easily one of the best sushi Ive ever had. The simplicity of it was remarkable, and Im certain the reason it was so good was because the chefs prepared it according to tradition, not cutting corners or adding new or strange flavors. Im not saying that doing new things with sushi is bad (I once had a sushi topped with strawberries which was great) Im just saying if you love sushi you owe it to yourself to try a traditional plate of sushi. All in all this place was great and the food was amazing, though you might have to do a bit of research before you go.

What a horrible experience!! This place used to be good but they are losing it. Maybe because they have no respect for American labor laws. Everytime you go, no matter what time you go it is always the same staff. But anyways that is a different story... After having to wait over an hour and a half for only two people we were finally seated in a small corner under the staircase (which looked extremely nasty and very poorly maintained). At the end the sushi which was served to us did not look right or fresh at all. Turns out it gave both me and my wife food poisoning (allergies, swelling of the eyes, etc. etc.) This place just has a dirty and unclean vibe to it and the restrooms are disgusting!!! The most important thing for a sushi restaurant (imho) is freshness and Shibui is not either fresh or clean. Not to mention the staff can sometimes be very very rude and they have a very non pleasant smell about them, i guess its because they wear the same clothes each and every single day. I warn everyone to stay away from this restaurant you might get very sick! I have been eating sushi for over 20 years of my life and the only times I have gotten sick was from eating the Shibui sushi If you cant maintain freshness, and quality then you should not be in the Sushi business!! This place is going down.

We eat there often. Each time is a little less satisfying. I guess thats why most of the accolades and awards hanging on the walls are from the last millennium. Its like the old Tarus in the Grove. Good food, good company, feels like it hasnt been cleaned since it was built. Reservations suggested but not necessarily honored. Our reservation for 5 two nights ago was written incorrectly by the manager. According to him we were 15 minutes late and unseatable even though the restaurant was completely empty. We offered to leave and never come back. He showed us the door. So from now on well spend our money where its appreciated. And we suggest you should do the same.

My favorite restaurant honestly. I try to go at least once a week depending on my schedule and I never get tired of going(I have been to a lot of other sushi places but always come back to this one). The staff has great customer service and its one of the few places where my glass is always been filled with water without having to ask. The staff always has a smile and seem to enjoy their job very much. I always go with my fiance but we have brought friends before and they have all gone back for a second and third time. I think its the environment, customer service and the great quality of the food that gives this place a very nice feeling about coming here.

Im obsessed with sushi and have been to many places all over south FL and I have yet to find anything better or even nearly as good as Shibui! There is only one other place I like more and its in Puerto Rico. The variety on their menu has something for everyone. Not to nention the fact that theyll let you substitute or add just about anything to any roll. Their service is always on point. I have not a single bad thing to say about this place. Every time I go I always get my favorites; japeruvian ceviche, funky roll, margy roll, Portobello mushroom, and a mango margarita sake on the side. If you love sushi you HAVE to go, you wont regret it I swear.

Just AMAZING! Hands down one of the best places for Miami in FL . I got the $150 option and it was enough. The service was great and our chef was super nice. He actually talk to us a little bit and also cater to what I didnt like. Every nigiri bite just melts in my mouth and it was a different flavor to each one. The only thing I didnt care for was the little small plates of random things. Only the oysters and the potato ball was good. Everything else was a miss. Mostly bar seating with a few tables. Reservations at least a month in advance. Must come back, but for special occasions only.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday recently and it blew us away. Very intimate and inviting. They have down stairs area with tables and (the cool part) all up stairs is traditional Japanese siting, on the floor with cushions. The food was absolutely delicious! Fresh and nice presentation. The waiters very nice and always checked from a distance if we needed anything, which we liked. Suggest to make a reservation cause this place does get packed and it is small. We will definitely go back with our whole family next time. This place is amazing! 5 stars from us!

This place is the bomb! cant afford to come here often but when I do, its always a special treat! I really enjoy sushi and this place has some of the freshest fish and sushi Miami has to offer at a price thats still reasonable! I like coming at lunch time when theres less of a wait and the prices are a bit lower. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful when you have questions about the menu. Ive been here about 3 or 4 times now already and still so many new Japanese dishes I want to try! I really do recommend trying Shibui if youre in the area!

Very tasty and fresh fish every time Ive been to Shibui. The atmosphere is great with floor, table and bar seating. I didnt like that they only serve one size bottles of the hot sake yet everything else was positive. I tend to order my own sushi and custom rolls so I didnt try the rolls on the menu but did have a conversation with someone sitting next to us and they loved their food which consisted of mainly contemporary rolls. It does have a romantic feel to it specially on the second floor where its quieter and less congested.
