Home Chef Bob Restaurant Reviews Snappers Oceanfront Restaurant & Bar On a windy day our plans to dine on the docks here went overboard. Well… we could have, but it would have been a challenge. Anyway dining inside was fun as well as we were watching those braving the winds holding their hats and everything else down while trying to eat. So it was our first time at Snappers and what a wonderful establishment inside and out. It’s actually quite big, comfortable, with nice seating making this a great waterfront eatery. Our waiter was quick on the draw and before we knew it we were sipping our ice cold beverages. Unfortunately they ran out of Hogfish so the wife and I settled for the blackened Grouper sandwich. What I found interesting when our sandwiches came was the fact they melted cheddar cheese on top the fish. This was the first time I ever had cheese on a fish sandwich other than McDonalds. I questioned this to my wife before taking a bite but everything came together quite well. Something else surprised me too as most places serve a fish sandwich on a bun or Kaiser Roll. But here it was served on toasted wheat bread with a slice of tomato, dill pickle, and your choice of sweet or regular French fries. This sandwich was a hit!! Why? I don’t know realizing it was too simple. Food for Thought applies right here that simplicity is the best way to making food taste good. It’s the little things you change that has you succeed. You can be like everyone else or you can navigate the boat away from the others. Great Sandwich!!!

My family of 7 went to dinner at Snappers on Saturday night--we were given terrible service and we realized it was probably because "gratuity is included @ 20% for parties over 6" which is a terrible thing to do to your guests, shows you really dont care. What really made us mad is that we were lied to about the available fresh catch--being that we are not tourists and are very familiar with the taste and appearance of different kinds of fish (Dolphin vs. Yellowtail vs. Grouper, etc) we could tell when the meal was brought out that the fish was NOT Grouper even though that is what we ordered and what our server told us it was. Feeling like we were mis-informed, I asked a different server (not ours) if they were out of Grouper and the server promptly answered "Yes, we are out of Grouper, the fish is fresh every day so when we run out, that is it," confirming our belief we had indeed been lied to. So, the food TASTED great but the slow service and the deceit left a bad taste in all of our mouths. Maybe if we had had a different server the experience may have been different. We loved the Waterfront Saloon, Kirk there is great and Cliff Cody who was playing live music on stage was awesome. We would go there again but request a better server!

The lobster sandwich came and hardly had any filling in it (mostly bread) and the bread was barely toasted (during ordering she was asked to toast it well) when our waitress was told about the problems she just left without saying anything. So my wife just ate the entree "as is", after eating our meals the manager showed up and asked what was wrong we again explained the issues...she starting defending the entree or should I say arguing with us that that was the way it was prepared (really?) then she said there was nothing she could do as the meal had been eaten already and she could not see what it looked like, we explained that the waitress did not give any indication that they were going to do anything at all. In the end all the manager or waitress needed to do was apologize that the entree did not meet our expectations and that would have sufficed. All they did was comped (1) piece of Key Lime pie (which was very good). We did not care to have any or all of our meal comped...we just cared that our complaint was acknowledged. Othe food was average and served to stave off hunger but; was nothing to write home about. Too bad that people who dont know customer service get put into Manager positions!!

CONSUMER BE WARE: This restaurant has "automatic gratuity" of 20% added to your bill. Florida Restaurant Law states if the restaurant adds this tip to your bill, it must be stated in the menu that they do this. I did not see this in Snappers menu anywhere. This left a "bad taste" in my mouth, as "automatic gratuities" are a deterrent to good service, as the waitresses know they will get their tips no matter what. Believe me, my wife is a waitress and stated so...and so did all her girlfriend waitresses. Some restaurants do this for parties of 6 or more, yet our party was of five people, and all of us had this tip added to our bills. Dont forget tips are NOT compulsory and under any circumstance, are you obliged to pay them. You should tip whatever you want - depending on the service you receive. I have left up to 30% tips when I get great or excellent service from a waitress. Examine your bill carefully when you get it, as this restaurant added the 20% tip to the total amount, then figured the 20% tip on this total!!! And on top of that, when you pay by credit card, an extra line appears for tips, for those fools that do not examine their bills!!!

this was absolutely the most horrible service I have ever dealt with. the food was awful, but the service was even worse. never in my life have I been so treated so poorly by the staff and especially the manager. she was so nasty and rude to us. after waiting an hour for two things, we wanted to just cancel our order and leave, but instead we got rudely yelled at that we must wait and pay for the food we did not ever eat nor even touch. she threatened to call the cops (and she did) we waited for them to get there. the policeman could not believe how ridiculous she was being over an extremely small bill, she argued that when you order something you pay for it regardless of if you actually consume it or not. he said if it were up to him he would do anything to accommadate his costumers. whatever. long story short I would strongly recommend that you never go here to save yourself from aggravation and an unpleasant dining experience. one hundred thumbs down for this place. terrible.

We stopped by here for drinks one evening and decided to come back the next night for dinner as well. Both times we sat outside in the bar area and really enjoyed the atmosphere. There was great solo acoustic live music both nights...great covers and singing. I was especially impressed that the music wasnt too loud...they have speakers scattered throughout the outdoor bar area to distribute the music but prevent it from blasting anyone. The drinks are tasty and the flatbread pizzas were very good. Service was excellent. We got several visits by the manager who seemed eager to please. If I had to offer room for improvement, I wish the outdoor bar would serve their drinks from glass rather than plastic, especially since this is a somewhat fancy restaurant. And Id also prefer if they didnt allow smoking at the bar area since there are a lot of people eating in the vicinity.
