My journey to find the best sushi place continues as I happen to stumble upon Sanraku on a casual Monday night. My boyfriend and I were actually hoping to eat at Ryokos which down the street but they were packed and we werent in the mood to wait 40 minutes so we walked around and found Sanraku which didnt have a terrible wait and stellar reviews. Like most other great Japanese restaurants, this place is authentic. The sushi chef down to the staff were all Japanese if not they were all at least fluent in Japanese... which is good enough for me! We waited about 15 minutes before we got a seat on the sushi bar. I love sitting at the bar because its so entertaining to watch the chefs prepare the fish but its also such a tease! The menu is simple and it didnt take long to decide on what we want. We ordered the Sanraku sushi special and the sashimi combination along with a tiger roll. Sanraku Sushi Special: Great selection of fish! I loved all of it :) The fish was fresh, tasty, and individually prepared. Each nigiri piece had its own set of toppings that complimented the fish very well. I think this was worth the price. Sashimi combination: It comes with octopus and scallops! Normally most sashimi plates dont so I thought that was great. The octopus was cooked well and the scallops were sweet as can be! The hamachi was incredible, usually Im indifferent when it comes to hamachi but this one was just so so good. The tuna was beautiful and the salmon was rich. Tiger roll: I really like the combo of tamago and unagi, very tasty. Its an overall sweet roll because of both ingredients but too good to pass up. The cucumbers provided a nice refreshing crunch to cut through the rich unagi and sweet tamago and the shrimp tempura just complimented the rest of the roll. Very simple but very flavorful. I also really like the ambiance of the restaurant. It was cozy but vibrant. Will visit again if Im in the area :)

This was my first trip to San Francisco, and weI were looking for a bit to eat at around 9:30pm on Friday evening, when we stumbled on this great sushi place. Im not a high-end sushi connoisseur, but I do have a taste for fresh fish, and this place served some of the best-tasting sushi Ive ever had. We sat at the bar and the waitress was prompt, friendly and helpful, along with the chefs behind the counter, who gave us a few freebies of things they were preparing for other diners and as they were cleaning up. The decor was cozy and clean and the right balance between quiet and noisy. The salad and miso soup were good, and my sashimi assortment was delicious and especially the mackerel was very flavorful. The wasabi was very fresh as well. What impressed me the most was the appetizer of octopus with pickled plums (Tako Umeboshi, if I recall the name correctly). I am usually not crazy about the taste or texture of octopus, but this preparation was spot on. We also shared the warm house sake, which was a pretty generous serving for $8. Friendly and unpretentious, and very high-quality sushi at a reasonable price... Ill be back next time Im in SF.

Unless Im in Taiwan, shopping center food is usually something Im wary of, and/or just avoid entirely. My friend really felt like getting sushi though, and insisted that Sanraku was not as bad as I feared, so along we came. Not being particularly hungry, I just went with one of their dragon rolls, since I have a baseline comparison for that at some other places I really like. And, well, Sanraku definitely fell below that baseline. While filling, the roll was on the smaller side, and lacked a good mouthfeel; it was also a lacking in flavor, and on the lukewarm side, which just all added up to a disappointing experience, especially given the price. ***Accessibility Info*** Venue - The restaurant is a bit on the smaller side, but there are definitely accessible tables. To get in to the place, you either enter from the garden area, which is level, or from inside the Metreon, which requires that you head up a ramp to the right of the front entrance. Bathroom - Didnt check them out.

OK. I have never been to a business where the hostess/cashier whatever she is (the whole time all she did was run all the credit cards) at any establishment that is so blatantly rude like straight up to your face as if you owe her something. I literally stood by the back pick up counter for over 15 minutes waiting to be helped or atleast acknowledged with a "hello, we will be right with you". Nope while that miserable woman was was standing there the whole time barely an arms length away completely totally ignoring me- so disrespectful. I just couldnt believe the audacity of this miserable unfriendly rude negative being to actually treat a customer this way. Oh and yeah to top it off she pretty much has an attack becomes infuriated when I ask a question about my order and when the check was brought it was nothing but attitude- everything just completely unprofessional!! IM STILL SHOCKED

The sushi was amazing, we walked in at 8pm with now wait. We decided on Sanraku because it was the no. 1 ranked sushi restaurant in the city by several travel guides for this year. The food was delicious, however the service left a lot to be desired. Several tables received their drinks, sushi, and dessert before us although we were seated and ordered before. Our server may have been new but given the amount we spent it would have been nice to have a little more attention with reference to refills, brining out food together as well as charging the right amount at the end. Our bill had several overcharges and everything seemed to be quite a chore for our server, although he seemed nice enough, there seemed to be challenges placing our order and managing our table. The food was worth the sub par service but may consider the service and price before chooseing.

Not bad for cheaper end of sushi. We arrived at 7:30 Thursday for dinner and was told the wait would be 45 minutes for 2 people. Stepped out to grab a coffee and came back in time to be seated at the bar. We each ordered the Deluxe Sashimi, which had 18 pieces of assorted fish, plus rice. The fish was fresh, especially good for only $34. We also got the chu toro off of the seasonal menu, which was also delicious. Miso soup, salad, and tea were complementary. Dessert of fruit was also complementary at the end of the meal. Service was awesome. I overheard they also do omakase, and saw that the sushi chefs were working on filling a GIANT sushi boat. Overall great place for dinner.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night at around 7 and it was a short wait - about 10 minutes. Id recommend reservations or just coming earlier to avoid the crowds. The sushi and the rolls were the freshest, most amazing sushi I have had to date. We also ordered the Seafood Chawanmushi and Beef Udon - delicious!! For dessert, they have a homemade pudding thats very similar to flan. It was served with green tea ice cream; it was more milky tasting than bitter like matcha. It was a nice touch that they served everyone a slice of honeydew and an orange at the end of the meal. Will definitely be back!

Out of all sushi places in the city I believe Sanraku is one of the best. It has the right size sushi rolls, very fresh, good quality ingredients. The portions are right. My favorite are Shrimp Tempura roll, Nasu Roll it is to die for. Chicken Teriyaki is amazing! Miso soup too, I meam everything is delicious. Its nice to seat even by your self and enjoy the view of Yerba Buena Gardens and the different high rise buildings. I have been going there for the last 11 years and every time I have friends from out of town I take them there. Some who move to the city make their favorite Sushi.
