I was looking to take my friend Joa K. out to dinner for her hospitality during my visit to Seattle and I found this lovely little Japanese restaurant in Capitol Hill. Apparently, she had never been so we made reservations on Open Table. First of all, the restaurant is deceivingly larger than it appears. Theres a back room, plus a zen garden that separates the two dining areas. As soon as we were seated, they brought us a plate of salted edamame. We also asked for some waters and some drinks. But, really, we came here for the sushi. Joa ordered a few nigiri and a spider roll. After that she went with the salmon tasting. I wanted the omakase ($35, $50, etc) but they had a special one called Ozen that was $45 that came with some small dishes in addition to sashimi. It came with yellowtail, ahi tuna, and salmon sashimi along with ugagi don, battered fish soup, miso soup, and cold asparagus dressed with a sesame sauce. It was a lovely bento meal and I loved it all. We were both really happy with our meals and she vowed to return with her mom in the near future. The service was great and the ambiance was a little on the loud side since it was busy. Its a good thing we made reservations! Parking is on the street so you may need to plan accordingly.

very lovely atmosphere. you dont think much when you walk in, but theres quite a lot of space in the restaurant including a beautiful garden (when the weather should strike better) and nice dim lighting. theres a little bar area which is nice if youre on your own and want a quick happy hour bite. my guy and i came here for happy hour and had a lovely time. i would recommend making a reservation because this place fills up fast and last time even though i made a reservation a day in advance it was cancelled....... however, this time we got it and the service was pleasant. we both had the mango sprite. sushi set B. spider roll. unagi roll. spicy california roll. mango tango, and orange crush. i wasnt as into the mango tango as i hoped i would be. it tasted more of like a summer fruit salad than anything, but it was a bit refreshing i guess. not a knock on their quality, just felt it was doing a bit much for sushi. everything was delicious for the most part and our total was $72 which was lovely considering how much we ate and how filling it all was. i will be coming back in the future for sure.

As with most of the sushi spots in Seattle, come prepared to wait, and at Momiji you will not be disappointed. Momijis location is great, in the ever-hip Capitol Hill - there are plenty of bars to hop into while waiting. This is my #2 favorite sushi in Seattle so far. Definitely request a seat in the beautiful Kyoto-style courtyard. Youll find a great mix of sushi rolls (both traditional and non), wonderful sashimi options, and cooked dishes as well. I will say there can be some sticker-shock when it comes to the menu prices at Momiji, but the portions are really ample enough to share amongst at least 2 people. The chefs do a great job of highlighting the freshness and natural flavors of each fish, and the cuts themselves are rather interesting, and ensure tenderness in each bite. Service is great and non-obtrusive, and our server provided great recommendations. I cant wait to go back soon!

The food is quite good, but expected given the price tag. Decor is nice, and more traditional style but fairly loud for a Japanese restaurant. However the service was very disappointing. One of our party had an allergy which they asked our server about. They never got back to us, and ended up bringing food which she could not eat. When we asked again we were told to eat around it (not possible) and then they took the food away even though we were sharing and the rest of us could have eaten it. It took about 20 minutes for them to come back with a replacement. In general staff were just very slow to get back to us on all requests.

The food is quite decent but uneven, 3-4 stars. The decor of the place specially the courtyard garden is quite nice. However, I have to say the service is needs improvement. Their reservation system is very frustrating. One time, we went with a reservation but had to wait another 40 minutes to be seated. Another time, it wasnt so bad, and we had to wait 30 minutes. But ironically, when we were late 10 minutes, they just said, sorry, youre late so we gave your table to someone else--which is fine, but what about the other times you made us wait so long?

I love this place. I order the chirashi dish each time. The fish is fresh And the presentation is excellent. I highly recommend this place if you love sushi. theres a bar area when you enter. Happy hour is also available in the dining room as well. This place is great for dates, groups, or just coming and hanging out in the bar by yourself. Try their happy hour mushroom salad. Theres also a special roll available on happy hour it is about 40% off the regular price.

Absolutely delicious sushi. These chefs are consummate professionals, and each has a different specialty - if you have time, it is well worth it to sit by the sushi bar/kitchen and watch them work! Their happy hour menu is highly recommended. The sushi rolls are breaded, so are not technically genuine sushi if you are a purist, but they are divine. Drinks arent weak, and they have an excellent saké and Japanese wine menu, with pairing suggestions for the novice.

Only Japanese restaurant I went to while in Seattle, at first it seemed small but after you go through the hallway it opens up and that is where, I think, the charm of this place comes from. They have a courtyard with a beautiful Japanese setting just sitting there eating looking at that courtyard was a wonderful experience. This was also the place where I had the best sushi I have ever had. I would definitely eat here and it seems pretty popular.

Great sushi restaurant on cap hill. The food here is always incredible with tons of options to choose from. Service is also always good. Come early or make a reservation as it gets pretty busy. Its also a little pricey, but totally worth it to keep a top notch experience. In the center of this restaurant is a Japanese garden as well. This is probably one of the best sushi places in the area and if you havent gone you should make any excuse to go.

Huge variety of speciality rolls, delicious cocktail, and the fried calamari is amazing. It gets super busy at dinner - we went on a Wednesday night and it was packed, had to wait half an hour for a table. Once we got seated, our server was attentive and super nice. Unfortunately, the lovely courtyard theyve built in the middle of the restaurant was difficult to see at night - the window glass is a bit reflective.

I liked momiji the first time we came here... Its sister restaurant Umi, with basically the same menu and very similar recipes is slightly better... The atmosphere here is awesome, the rolls and quality of the seafood in them is impeccable. My favorites are the street fighter and the Rockstar. The crunchy callimari salad is a must as well. If you want a appetizer I highly recommend the ribs!
