Freshness: 5 stars Presentation: 4 stars Value: 5 stars Hot House Sake: ? stars Ive never been to Japan, but I would guess that Sushi Kuine in Kent wouldnt look out of place one bit in a small coastal village. There is no deep fryer here, so look elsewhere for your tempura shrimp or other types of rich, American sushi. Kazu, the owner/chef of his small restaurant is the only one on staff besides his wife, and after multiple visits here, eating sushi becomes more akin to getting a haircut from your barber of 10 years. Ive always liked sushi because you feel more of a personal connection with the person preparing your food, and that feeling wont be more natural than at this small restaurant. The rolls are cheap (5-10$) and very fresh. Kazu sometimes vacations to Japan and returns here with real Japanese vegetables, so if you become a regular you can get a real treat! Some of the rolls (including the Futo-Maki) are cut in a more traditional? style, where you cant eat the whole piece in one bite, but besides this small annoyance, Sushi Kuine is a great place to eat some quality sushi. Happy sushi-ing!

This is one of the best places Ive ever been for sushi. Theres no over-the-top gimmicks and not much seating, but the couple that work here make sure youre happy and satisfied. The sushi is simple, but beautiful, and very well prepared. My girlfriend and I went on a Saturday and we were earlier than opening. Kazu told us that he was still preparing a to-go order and we were welcome to sit and wait. We left him to his work and came back after hed officially opened. We ordered a few rolls at a time and sashimi too. The only thing we couldnt try on the menu was the flying fish roe rolls. We also ended up ordering the unagi rolls twice because theyre that good. We ordered 4 rolls (6 pieces each), 3 orders of sashimi and one of the special rolls on the board behind the chef. Our entire meal was $30 and worth twice that. Go. Enjoy the food. Tip well. Dont worry about messing up pronunciations. Thank the staff.

The food is fresh and amazing quality. Small, kinda homey, could use a deep cleaning. I have been going here off and on for a few years. The owner/ chef can be very rude and curt and at times it is very uncomfortable to sit and eat there. I began going again this last month and felt like they actually wanted my business. Last night was the last straw. I went in a little after six. A large party had walked in, he looked at me and frowned and stated there was a big group what did I want. I said two rolls to go. He then ignored me for ten minutes or so and asked the group what they were having and looked at me and said "sorry, not enough rice" You will have to leave. Ok I get a big group etc. but really? I prefer to spend my money at local family owned restaurants but I will not be back for a while if ever. No matter how affordable and tasty his food is.

Awful customer service!!!! My friend is allergic to avocados so naturally she ordered a roll WITHOUT avocados. When she got it, the cream cheese had traces of avocado on it (No, not wasabi). I had ordered a roll with avocados and when she asked they admitted that they cut ALL ROLLS WITH THE SAME KNIFE!? She explained that she was deadly allergic to avocados yet they refused to make her a new roll because, and I quote "That one was already made". They also told us that we had to inform them that she was allergic... Ok, 1. it is NOBODYs business and 2. That was why she ordered a roll without any avocados. Im surprised that they were more concerned with losing on a $5 roll than being sued or caring for their customers happiness. So sad. Needless to say, we will NEVER EVER go back.

While this whole-in-the-wall doesnt look like much, youll find that looks are definitely deceiving. The owner is a small, Japanese man who has been professionally making sushi for more than 20+ years, many of those years were spent apprenticing. While not your upscale, expensive sushi experience; the quality of the sushi here is well above your average, Korean Teriyaki/Sushi diners. Its closer to what you might find in Japan, at your local neighborhood sushi spot. Ive had a great experience every time Ive gone. The fish is always fresh and the miso soup warm. The one time I thought the fish wasnt quite as fresh was when I ordered some To Go and didnt eat it till 20 minutes later.

This VERY small restaurant can hold maybe 15-20 people at most! The owner / operator is a very nice gentleman who has been preparing sushi for 20+ years, and has operated this establishment for over 5 years. While he makes some of the best sushi that I have ever had, and reasonably priced to boot, he ONLY serves Sushi, which can be a deterrent for many(not me). He also ONLY accepts cash, so stop by the ATM before going if your like me and dont generally carry much. I look forward to many more visits to Sushi Kuine. One last thing, there is no designated parking for this business. Youll have to park on the street.

This quaint little sushi bar is a wonderful authentic experience. The chef is very friendly and puts a lot of care into his dishes (you can tell, because youre sitting right at the bar watching him). Every time I go there seem to be "regulars" eating, which is nice to see at such a small restaurant. Ive always been very satisfied with the freshness of the fish and the quality of the sashimi. And Ive never been dissatisfied with the service, my tea is always filled. This restaurant is CASH ONLY, which is an important consideration when going out.

I read reviews about this place and they say that people really liked it. Best sushi ever! The prices are great too. This is the kind of sushi that usually costs $20 a piece but is more like $4 and under. He only serves sushi and he makes it to order so this is the real deal. A sushi artist. He does to go orders and party plates. If you like GOOD sushi. This is your little jem. Keep in mind that the shop is small and seats approximately 10 people on the inside.

Chef was rude, My first order was unagi(eel) and it was good. Second order I had something else and I asked him if he got any sweet sauce (that he used for (unagi) and he said that you dont need it and its not how you eat sushi. And what is bothered me that he took my plate and wipe off sweet sauce from plate and said if you dont like it go somewhere else.

The sushi here is delicious. This is a very small sushi place that accepts cash only. The people here are friendly and personable. If you come more than once, they will have your name down by the second time you do come. Kazu is amazing. His culinary skills with fish is fantastic. I hope you get a chance to see it yourself.
