Weve tried this place a couple of times. Once we came for happy hour one weekend afternoon and felt very unwelcome by the host. We were seated outside and no one came by for 10-15 minutes even though the place was practically empty. We just got up and went somewhere else. We tried a second time for dinner. The service was very poor and the kitchen extremely slow. We order our food and drinks at the same time but the food took over an hour to come out. In the meantime, we finished our drinks and the waiter never came back to check on us. We had to flag him down after waiting over an hour to ask about our food. He never came by to offer us a second round of drinks, more bread, or anything to make the wait more comfortable. When the food finally came out, there was no apology or explanation. The food was okay but nothing fantastic and definitely not worth the wait. I had the veal marsala which was just 3 slices of veal with some vegetables on the side. Overall, the portions were okay but not generous for the price. We didnt even look at the desert menu. Theres definitely better places on or near University ave for the money.

My wife and I have been to Arte multiple times. We live within walking distance of University Ave. and have been to many of the restaurants downtown. Without question, Atre Ristorante is the best. Hands on attention from the two Sicilian owners, Mario in the restaurant and Eduardo in the kitchen, make this place special. Add in fabulous service from the likes of VItor, Italian wine choices that are exceptional, especially for the price, and authentic Italian food that would shine in San Francisco, let alone Palo Alto, and you have a fabulous night out.

I have been three times there and the service is awful. You really cannot get 2 glasses of wine along the dinner. One you will succeed, but getting a waiter for the 2nd, you will not. In the mean time, you can look at the owner/manager talking feeding some of his guests or talking on the cell phone (he is always there in white shirt and jacket, and wet hair)..... Food, barely edible. Please, bring Copola back! At the forgotten Francis Ford time, we were there weekly!

Ive been here a few times and its *okay*. We had the Caeser salad, carpaccio, and a pizza margarita. None taste at all authentic and given the number of Italian options in Palo Alto, this isnt at the top of my list. Watching people is fun, although again, that is at the end of the main drag. Apparently parking here is hard for the average driver, so get an outdoor seat and prepare to be entertained. ;-)

The food here is excellent, and I can swear this is really Italian cusine (with a touch of American). Consider that the kitchen is the land of Renzos mom, an all Sicilian woman, with big arms and heart. Most of the pasta is actually hand made by Renzos mom...very good! REAL Italian cuisine, despite most places in the valley (Renzo does NOT serve Pasta Alfredo, that is the fakest Italian pasta ever).

The service was OK. Started off well but after our entree plates were cleared we waited 10 minutes before the waiter came to check if we wanted dessert or coffee. The food, penne primavera and special beet ravioli, was alright but not great. The bread served was actually quite nice but we were given 4 slices for 3 people and no offer for more.

I have been to many, many great italian restaraunts. Two that stick out for me are Ristorante Limoncello in Bostons North End and now Arte Ristorante in Palo Alto. For a place where you can sit down and read the menu (in English) the experiences are notably different. However, here, your pallate will be just as pleased.

This is a great place to get really delicious Italian food, at an incredibly reasonable price (especially compared to other west-coast Italian eateries), for fantastic atmosphere. It is also open late, which is a big plus. Great service, tasty pastas and appetizers, and a fancy atmosphere....try it out!

Cute Italian restaurant on University Ave. Its kinda upscale looking inside, but the outdoor seating makes the experience much more casual (and pet friendly). Standard American-ish Italian fare. Nothing super inventive but solid food. I liked the carbonara a lot. The seafood spaghetti was just okay.

The wife and I went out for dinner last night and had a wonderful time. Our waiter was actually from Italy. The food was excellent I would give 5 Stars but the gnocchi had just a little to much pesto other then that I would recommend this place.

Their bar area has some very comfortable couches and theres usually room unlike at some of the more crowded downtown restaurants. Great specials that change weekly. Most of the staff seems to speak Italian, a plus at an Italian restaurant.

AMAZING restaurant, especially for large parties and celebrating special occasions! The interior and atmosphere is really nice. The homemade tagliolini is to die for!!!! They also have a really good steak panini on the lunch menu....

My wife and I stopped here for drinks. It was pretty empty at around 6 PM. We got our pick of seats at the bar and ordered some cocktails. All the staff was very nice.

Ive eaten here three times and enjoyed every meal. The burrata is excellent to start with and the pasta dishes are great. Especially like the gemelli alla carcerata.

Mixed experience with the service here. Food has always been good though and they have a very good wine/beer list. Try the affligem trippel
