It appears that whoever is in charge of the menu or the cooking is actually Italian...from Italy! How about that? I sat by the booth where you can see the chef cooking, and lo and behold, hes Italian. What does that say? Well, that means theres a chance that your food might actually be authentic. Vero is the best, most authentic Italian fare Ive had in the south bay / Peninsula by far. You wont get your fettucini alfredo w/ the surprise of sliced chicken breast ( Horrible, but true story) , but you will get fettucini carbonara, a dish youll be hard pressed to find at more popular Italian restaurants. I had the bucatini allamatrician and it was a delight. It was as good as they made it in Rome when I used to go to this place weekly for half a year. Spicy, pungent w/ pecorino cheese, salty & smokey from the diced pancetta. Oh, did I mention most of the primi used housemade pastas? The bucatini noodles itself was a treat. Finally, a place aside from Lupas in Noe (SF) that wont cook and pulverize pasta noodles. Not everything was awesome tho. The secondo I ordered, I forget what it was called, some veal thing w/ cheese melted on top wasnt that amazing. But that could be because I was already full from eating a whole loaf of whatever wonderful bread they gave us. Lastly, the chocolate "souffle" dessert was more like a flourless chocolate cake than a souffle. I was a bit disappointed at the cakelike texture of it, but it was still quite good. Overall, I highly recommend this place. If you are a fan of good pasta, go there and order as many primi as you can handle. You can try many of the wonderful pasta dishes Italy has to offer that you wont find at the nearby Osteria or Buca di Beppos. Though Ive only been there twice, Vero truely (haha) is a well priced, authentic gem.

I brought my family and my fiancées family to Vero for our Rehearsal Dinner. There were 15 of us on a Friday night (including two kids, a 5 and 12 year old). They ROCKED! To be fully honest, I have always loved Vero and took my fiancee there for his birthday dinner when we first met. I wasnt sure they would be able to accommodate 15 for our pre-wedding dinner, so I called in advance and worked with Massimo, the owner. He is amazing! Vero, as a restaurant, is simply elegant with great big windows and open space. I love the fabric gracefully draping from the ceiling. Its beautiful. The food (have you tried the gnocchi, if not, OH MY GOSH DO IT! Its like eating clouds) is amazing, and the servers are professional and kind. Massimo, the owner, treated my family like his friends. Everyone, even my foody sister from the east coast, loved the menu selections, their dinner, and the appetizers I had pre selected (they the eggplant parm and the calamari. SO GOOD! Vero, thank you for creating a space that brought my family and by fiancées family together so perfectly, for letting my mom put little gifts and name cards out on the table, for the awesome wine selections, for taking special care of my five year old niece (I did notice you bring out pasta specially for her but forgot to thank you in person, she LOVED feeling so special). This was a perfect pre-wedding day dinner, and I am excited to come back as a newly married couple!

Ive been here twice now. Both times the food I had was very tasty and I felt like I had quite a few options despite being gluten free at an Italian restaurant. The first time I had risotto, the second a pan seared petrale with a spicy eggplant side dish. I really appreciate that the servers all seem to know understand what gluten free means, and the restaurant offers a variety of side dishes, most of which are gluten free. My friends and husband had pasta dishes that they really enjoyed as well. Its moderately expensive--a nice place to meet a friend after work to catch up. Im sure Ill be back.

I recently dined at Vero and found it to be an excellent Italian gem. Delicious! Great place to go with the family or with friends. The staff is very helpful and accommodating and the home made pasta was to die for!! My friends and I left full and very happy! The desert is a must!! The price was very affordable for the quality and quantity. They also had a great selection of Italian wines at a reasonable price. What more can you ask for, I highly recommend it.

Ive been here three times, once for lunch, twice for dinner. The menu is varied with many delicious offerings. On their current menu, I recommend the mussels appetizer, the calamari, both raviolis, the gnocci, the lasagna, and especially the tagliatelle alla sugo. All are delicious, reasonably priced, and generously portioned. The servers have been attentive and professional. Well-curated wine list. Cozy, attractive space.

While places with "the buzz" and fads come and go, Vero keeps on keeping on. There are lots of comments and descriptions on Google and elsewhere, so I wont bore anyone with what I like to eat/drink. Just one thought. We have friends, relatives, and others from out of town, locals, and from other countries who visit from time to time. When we ask "where do you want to go", it usually comes down to "Lets go back to Vero!"

This was a pleasant surprise find for me this evening as I simply wandered in after walking past. The restaurant was not busy, though it was still somewhat early for a Friday. Service was super friendly and fast; almost bordering on rushed as my entree came before I had finished my appetizer. Still, the food was very well done with great flavor blending and pretty presentation. I will definitely return.

nothing trumped up, just real and quality food and great prices, good wine list and great atmosphere. i keep coming back, without really thinking about it, whereas other eating decisions are more calculated and more forced. i guess its like going to my mothers kitchen. this is italian food, not american-italian food. i love it!!

Sono venuto con la mia famiglia e posso affermare che la cucina è autentica, lo staff disponibile e amichevole. It reminds me of Italy.

My husband and I went to Vero for a nice dinner, but the experience left a lot to be desired. Our server was curt and unwelcoming. Decent menu items and nice wine list. The food was fine, but above average for the Bay Area in general.

The food isnt that bad but still not that good. Tried the spicy beef pasta and lasagna but wasnt impressed by either. The mista salad isnt bad. I liked the fresh oven bread with the olive oil and the balsamic vinegar dip.

Nice quiet restaurant run by people from Italy. Chef has changed a few times, which might reflect some problem, but food is good, and pretty much like upper-mid-class folk in Italy eat.

Came here for a group dinner and no one enjoyed the food very much. Everything was only mediocre. In my opinion there are a lot of better places to go in Palo Alto.

Excellent, low key family restaurant. They really care about the food and the overall dining experience. Great staff and the best pasta dishes anywhere.

Good experience with pasta dishes, lasagna. Big portions. Solid beet salad and tiramisu. Nothing stellar but perfect when the pasta craving hits.
