Weve been to Sushi Ken about half a dozen times. The food is very good, but the last two visits overall have been so awful that we couldnt wait to get out of there. Last time I thought it was a fluke, but tonight was even worse. First I want to mention that the service has always been a bit poor. Glasses going unfilled for 10+ minutes, waiting a long time for menus, checks, etc. The food comes quickly once youve ordered, but the serving staff is simply too small. It seems like 2-3 people are handling all the service. But, I can always look past slow service for good food. What I cannot look past, however, is the fact that the last two visits have felt like we were eating next to the playpen in a McDonalds. This is an open-style restaurant with all the tables in one room (no booths), and there are consistently a lot of families with small children. Tonight, a family with three small children walked in like they owned the place (without waiting to be seated) and sat in the corner. Apparently they were related to a staff member or something, at one point I saw their little girl (who was running around the restaurant unsupervised) go behind the bar and into the kitchen area, but the staff member working back there only smiled at the little girl as she ran by. The familys other children were standing/jumping on chairs, laying on the table, and playing games on an iPad with the volume on, all to the frustration of the other guests. The worst part though? The non-stop screaming and crying. Small children, running around the restaurant, screaming, crying, throwing tantrums, using loud electronics, throughout the entire visit. The parents were oblivious and ignored the other guests, and the staff did nothing. As we were signing the check, I heard "Elmo" start playing loud and clear on the childs iPad. We could not get out of there quickly enough. Im giving Sushi Ken 2 stars instead of 1 because the food is very good. Excellent ramen, sushi, and don bowls. Id love to keep eating here, but I dont think were coming back. Like I said, its like we were sitting next to the playpen at a McDonalds. If youre looking for a quiet, relaxing evening, spend your money elsewhere.

I like the food but I hate the service there. It took us 20 mins to wait the seat and another 20 mins to wait for the waitress to come and take the orders. There were several things made us leave the restaurant without order any food. First, when we were ready to order the food, the waitress told us no matter which table gets ready first she has to take the order for who ever comes in the restaurant first. So we have to wait for a 20 peoples table until they finished order and got their drink(actually we got there first, but they got table before us because they have more people). This was my first time hear a waitress reject the customer to take their order with this reason. Second, the waitress told my friend who order a bottle of beer that if he shares his beer with other people she will REPORT him. OMG !!! (I cannot believe the waitress would say things with no manner and threaten her customer). Third, she put the beer on the table with a big sound of "poo". After all of these impolite, we left the restaurant with only purchasing a bottle of beer.

Great quality and variety of food options, but service was lacking to the extreme. This place generally receives great reviews and I have to agree the food is good, that being said we waited nearly one hour for food and two hours to receive everything our party ordered. The staff looked really beat down during our visit, and other customers were visibly upset. None of the servers kept track of who received what menu item which quickly gets confusing when ordering a variety of sushi. Ultimately it was every man for himself as a couple other people in my party consumed two of the items I ordered, and service was too slow to consider ordering more. Ultimately I left the hungry, with a 55$ bill.

Sushi Ken advertises that they close at 10pm on Fridays, but the hour and half prior to closing is a no go zone to arrive. We arrived at 9pm, and we were greeted with the words "if you know what you want, please order now" then we were asked to pay immediately after ordering. During the entire 20 minute dinner, all of the staff stood by the wall and watched us. Obvious they wanted to close early, it was a rushed, awkward, and expensive dinner. If we had known they wanted to close early, we would have gone to Hiro Sushi, which is closer. We would have had a better time. Summary, we should have gone to another place or stayed in for the night and had a comfortable time together.

Just came back from Sushi Ken. That would be our last time to go there. The service was horrible. I said again HORRIBLE. We waited for 15 mins after they sat us down for water. When the food come, mine didnt come for a long time after they serve my friends. Finally, the next table told the waitress they didnt order that dish. That was my dish. They took it to me. I wasnt very happy, but dont want to take it back. (who knows what they are going to do in the back) My friend was trying to stand up for me. He mentioned to the waitress we want a fresh dish. She said how FRESH you want. and look at us like we said something very ridiculous. Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else.

I was a bit disappointed when the new owners started. The sushi quality had dropped along with the size of the rolls. Also their signature $5 rolls list has decreased. They removed about two or three rolls from the list, but they did add more specials (not $5 dollars). I usually get the chunky spicy tuna. Usually only need two orders, now three is necessary to feel the same amount of full, but the quality is also not there. I have not tried their bento boxes but I have a feeling things have changed there too. Disappointed because this was my fav sushi place in AZ due to locale and cost. Hopefully the new management sees this and things change for the better.

This restaurant is one of the liked Japanese restaurants and no matter how often one eats there the combinations can always be new and tasty. The menu is detailed and reflects many types of ingredients for making a combination. They actually helped me to put together a delicious one for myself. The service providers are attentive and quick to make the seats available to new customers. The restaurant provides all the required conveniences for the clients including the children. They have delivery and catering services as well. Soft drinks of all kinds plus beers and wine are seen in the glass cabinet. They also offer hot green tea. An enjoyable dining.

I lived in Japan outside Tokyo for about 3 years. Ive been to a bunch of different Japanese restaurants in the US and they were ALL mediocre......until now. The interior decorating is less then stellar, but the sashimi and udon was hands down the closest Ive been able to get to being back in Japan. The fish was super fresh and didnt taste "fishy" at all.....which it shouldnt if youre getting the sashimi or sushi prepared correctly. Also had killer shumai. Wash it down with a nice Sapporo beer and youre good go. Extremely reasonable prices and the owner is very friendly. ご馳走様でした!
