It was an odd day (12/26) and so lots were off from work and it was crowded in the bar. It quickly cleared out at around 4PM when everyone went upstairs, likely to enjoy the billiards. At this point, and after braving the smell of raw sewage which kept wafting by periodically, my wife and I grabbed a high top table at the bar. We were approached by a young male waiter who told us that wed need to go see the host in order to sit there. A bit put off by this since it felt like a free table in a bar rather than a table requiring seating, we made our displeasure known and were shown to the manager (Colleen). Colleen was very nice and apologetic and we thought that some good advice for her might be, rather than kicking people out of a bar high top, perhaps to have the waiter go and ask the hostess if its ok for us to remain there. In any case, we didnt stay and so I cant comment on the food and drink. But, between the treatment by the waitstaff (apparently caused by the confusion of the new opening and large crowd even though the bar had cleared out at that point) and the smell of sewage and it is unlikely Ill be going back any time soon - at least until they iron out the kinks. Note that Im a Newburyport local and spend in the $1000s dollar range every month eating and drinking in town. If you didnt like10 Center or Nixs its unlikely youll find anything different about Brick and Ash. Same old same old...

Love it for the atmosphere/food/drinks...all three are about comfort. The poutine is to die for...couple it with a cabernet and be warned: if you are by one of their many fireplaces, you may just ask for a blanket (which, by the way, they WILL offer you if you are sitting by the fire outside) and take a snooze. We have been with the whole family or among just adults...at a booth, a table, and at the bar. Fabulous time, every time. Great addition to the already stellar Newburyport restaurant scene!

I left this place feeling full! I know Newburyport is FULL of pizza places, which to some are comfort food, but Brick and Ash is there to put in themselves in that ring. I am loving their custom bbq sauces! The pulled pork and the plates with all the sides I think allows you to really explore your opinions there. And the appetizers looked amazing. I left full!

Not a ton of vegetarian options, the portabello burger isnt the greatest. But the swordfish burger is incredible, definitely try it. Quite pricy but the place itself is very nice.
