Sapporo is a unique Japanese restaurant in Scottsdale that has a wide selection of choices for lunch and dinner. *FOOD* Absolutely fantastic! Whether it is lunch or dinner, they have tasty choices. The appetizer ribs are heaven and taste delicious. They have a special type of sauce that makes it perfect. The fried calamari is crunchy and one of the best that Ive had in the Scottsdale area. Again, they have a special type of dipping sauce that tops it all off. There are also tons of sushi and even some that arent listed on the menu, so be sure to ask! Everything there is amazingly fresh and the food doesnt take too long to come. One plate comes after the other! *DECOR* Sapporo has a big restaurant and it feels very spacious. There are 6 teppans, like Beninhana if thats your thing. The rest of the restaurant, in the middle of the 6 teppans, consists of tables and booths, both very comfortable to stay in for a couple hours. The furniture and other decor is modern and new, especially with the atmosphere, which is very upbeat. There is loud and recent music that plays. It makes everyone want to get up and dance. *SERVICE* The waiters and waitresses always have a smile on their face. Our waiter made many jokes while he was serving us and made the experience great. This isnt the only time the waiter has made us smile. Most of the food comes out pretty quickly. However, when it is very busy, it may take a little while longer. Its always good to call ahead to try and make a reservation, if for dinner. If theyre having a slow night, theyll let you know and say that a reservation isnt necessary! Lunch is a lot more peaceful and the music is not as loud, along with quieter chatter.

This is a three star restaurant that tries to be a five star hot-spot. From losing reservations to forgetting orders, for what they charge they just dont perform. A little tip, dont make a reservation through OpenTable for this restaurant. They dont input them into their system - which the hostess told us as she commented that this happens all the time. Theyll try to fit you in, but you could be waiting for a while when you were expecting a table at a certain time. First, the really good part - the signature drinks. Sure, theyre pricey, but they are REALLY good. The sushi is pretty good too. Nothing super amazing here, but its good. If they only did sushi and signature drinks they might be a 4+ star place. Its the rest of the menu and service that brings the rating down. The food is just ok. Our group of four enjoyed the teppanyaki performance, but the food wasnt any better than could be found at many generic, and much cheaper, restaurants. It was tasty and satisfying, but there wasnt a WOW factor that we were looking for (especially when it was almost $80 a person after a few drinks). It was VERY loud. The music was so loud that we couldnt hear each other at the table. I enjoy a good dance club, but only when I am going there to dance, not dine. The atmosphere was a little more suited to Old Town, not north Scottsdale. I was hoping this place would be better than it is. There are a lot of other 4+ star restaurants in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area that actually deserve the rating. For Sapporo, I think Ill stick to their happy hour sushi offerings - if we ever do return.

A decent sushi and habachi restaurant. I havent been blown away by any of their food so far. One thing they do excel at is the presentation. Everything that it brought to the table looks amazing. The architecture is pretty and the environment is comfortable. One down side is they blast the music like it is a club so if you want to talk to someone you have to yell and since everyone is yelling the place gets loud. I did enjoy it for a date with my wife but I dont think we will go back anytime soon as I like to converse with the people I am spending time with. Furthermore the food wasnt quite as good as I would expect for the price. One thing I would recommend is do the habachi. The habachi tables are at the sides which are farthest from the speakers. You can enjoy a nice meal with friends and a chef presentation while your at it.

Excellent Food, Atmosphere, & Service! The open air bar and patio were buzzing at 9 p.m. on a Wednesday night, as the bartenders mixed their shakers to the upbeat music. The Avocado Roll was fantastic with big chunks of avocado and tender rice. The ginger was so fresh and sweet that it tasted like candy. I had ordered the White Tuna Sashimi, and they were all out of it, so the chef, himself, came out to apologize, as did Rachel, who was an exceptional server! I had the Yellow Tail Sashimi instead, and it was spectacular and so fresh, it was like butter. The Teriyaki Salmon was cooked perfectly (moist and flaky) and was served with incredible coconut rice & grilled asparagus. I didnt have room for dessert, but Rachel highly recommends the Bananas Foster Spring Roll. It was a wonderful overall experience

The staff is terrible. I made reservations ahead of time because we had a large party. The afternoon before the reservation I missed a call and received a voicemail to confirm. I call back and all you can do is leave a message so I did and never received a call back. When we arrived I was told we could only sit at a regular table instead of Teppanyaki bc they had been booked up until 930. My reservation was at 530 and made the reservation a week in advance. Of course we didnt wait until 930, but the host was extremely rude and even mentioned that this happens all the time..not comforting. The food was ok. The waitress disappeared after our food came out and only returned to bring the bill. The hostest outfits left little to the imagination. We wont be back.

The good: Very friendly staff in a nice modern setting with some pleasant decor. Definitely a night life vibe. Good tasting cooked food. Might be a little salty for some, but good for me. Nothing spectacular, just appropriate. The teppanyaki tables seem very entertaining (which I did not have). The bad: The specialty sushi rolls seems to rely on the cheaper fillers in the core of the roll, with thin slivers of actual fish on the outside. The actual ingredients themselves are fresh and tasty, the garnish and presentation are beautiful, but when served in this type of proportion, I just feel ripped off. The "crab" is just imitation crab meat. As an avid sushi/sashimi lover, I would pass on the sushi and just go for the cooked food.

I have been here countless times for the Happy Hour and Teppanyaki. Happy Hour is great for sushi and small bites and to mix and mingle with the Cougars of Scottsdale. I often do the Teppanyaki dinner with larger groups of people to ensure we get the table to ourselves. I have never had a problem with service or food quality. Our table chefs are typically very social and put on a good show. Be prepared to spend on average about $40 a person for the Teppanyaki but it is well worth it for the amount of food you get.

The sushi here is pretty good, the service is meh at best. I dont know if everyone that works here is stuck up or is used to high end clientele but they treated me and a couple of friends like bums it seems like; all from when you walk in (took a little bit to get seated). And then when we were served it did not seem that our server was very attentive. The food is the only reason this place gets 3 stars, because the food is good; but holy cow is it expensive.
