I will start by saying that until today, I have been happy with this place. They have the best sushi in town and their hibachi is always tasty. Unfortunately, their service has been on the decline and constantly been getting worse. Today was the worst experience I have had and want to warn other against coming to Umi for lunch. We (2 people) went in for lunch thinking my hour allotted time would be more than enough. After waiting 5 minutes to be seated (despite a number of waitresses, cooks and other restaurant members noticing us), it took another 10 before we were asked about drinks. We could sense the service would be slow so we put in our order right away with the drinks. 40 minutes later we had to flag down the waitress and ask for the food to be put into to-go containers so I could get back to work on time. We got a disingenuous Sorry from our waitress which made it all the worse, she clearly had no idea how long it was taking. I understand they were busy, but its a holiday and should have expected to be a little busier than normal. Beef up your kitchen staff, train your waitresses appropriately and recognize that people who come in over lunch are often on a time-crunch. They have lost our business for lunch time...period.

I was very impressed to find a Japanese Restaurant in the Midwest that serves such a cuisine that is delicious and appealing as Umi has. I doubted my daughters review as she doesnt really eat a lot of "true" sushi; she eats rolls more than anything. When we entered I thought the pond was a very nice accent; I thought there would be some Koi fish in there, but there were goldfish. I can understand that! I was told the owners are from Hawaii; they do an excellent job with the sushi. We had the "Love Boat" which has sushi and sashimi; it was all excellent. If I ever return to visit my daughter again before they get transferred from the area I will definitely revisit Umis again!

Horrible service last night, they tried to charge an extra $12 for gratuity when we were not with the party next us! just because were are nice and like to talk with new people does not mean you can charge me extra money to do so.My order was incorrect,plus the whole reason I went out was to treat my wife to a nice dinner and we received a coupon (which I am great full for) and we reminded the server four times and still did not receive the amount off my bill. Also it was my wifes birthday they come out with a dong and sing but they never came out for my wife )=. Service was great the first time we went during lunch, I dont believe I will be going back )=

As much as the lovely waitress tried to make the experience pleasant, the food just wasnt very good. Very odd appetizer with fake crab and sweetened cream cheese (?), the main courses were cold, served with a mayo/ketchup dipping sauce (for Asian food?), but the food was impossible to dip, the sauce wasnt in a dish where you could pour it, so - what on earth? And cold food? We left without eating and the nice waitress got our meal comped. Two stars for the polite waitstaff and the comped meal. But the kitchen needs help!

I think the sushi is priced reasonably... relatively the same Ive had anywhere else but it is sooo GOOD! I just wish all of the sushi chefs prepared the dishes the same. We ordered the same dish twice, and it was prepared completely different lol but it still tasted good. One night we will have a good waitress - one night not so hot. I think it just depends on the traffic at the restaurant - which shouldnt change how the wait staff is. Over all - go on a week night with specials - and you will have the best experience.

Better experience on the Hibachi side not so much regular dining side. Waited for over 30 mins for our waitress after we were seated. Had to get our own drinks at the bar and inform the bartender that we have not been helped. I ordered the Steak Bento Box and was served the Steak Hibachi style dinner. Waitress informed me I was wrong and that I pointed at the Hibachi Dinner when I didnt even open the menu. Normally I have a good experience at this restaurant but because of this experience I have not been back.

Went to Umi today havent been there since nov2015 used to go there every weekend and order the angry dragon roll. Today was my first time back this year and man I dont know what happened if they changed management or chefs but when I ordered my angry I mean sad dragon roll they layed them flat so it would cover more of the plate and you get less rolls but also were stuffed as if they were running out of ingredients back there. Felt like I was eating at green tea with a nicer building.

Went there during peak hours and the wait (dining area) was about 15-20 minutes. Nothing too crazy for a party of 3 (2 adults, 1 child). Slight wait once we were seated but service was kind and quick. The food was quickly served; not much of a wait between courses. Food was well-prepared, nicely portioned, and very tasty. I would definitely recommend for a date night or just a night out with the family. The only downside was that it was slightly on the pricier end of the spectrum.

The food was alright and it was a lot of fun to go to, however I have had better at a much cheaper price. The sushi on the other hand was not good at all and made me gag, causing for me to lose my appetite for a little bit. The decor was very nice and modern. The service was not horrible, but it was not the best I have ever had except for our chef, he did a nice job. I think that it is alright, but probably will not be my first choice due to the price and food quality.

I go to UMI fairly often for dinner. I usually sit on the dine in side and just get sushi. My experiences are often great. Occasionally there is a new server (like earlier this week) that is not trained well. It took a long time to receive our drinks, have our order taken and get the check. Overall this is a great place; I really like their sushi. Its just not worthy of 5 stars because of the random bad server experience.

The sushi was eh to sub-par, the service was lacking and the prices were too high for what you got. The service was "whatever" and not something I would tip 20% for. I have had FAR better hibachi back in Arizona at the AhSo, blows this place out of hte water, no contest. I didnt hate it but I didnt love it, If I ever went back it would be for the sushi bar and nothing else.

The sushi rice is very dry and sticky, not the best texture and is the ratio of rice to fish is off. The veg in the sushi is chopped too coarsely and takes away from the experience. However, the fish itself is reasonably well cut and is never "fishy" smelling. I would recommend sticking with sashimi or the hibatchi. The atmosphere and service is very, very good.
