Never been to a Southern BBQ Smokehouse. I know its history and the founder. I decided to give it a try. I ordered beef brisket sandwich with a side of sweet potatoes and Cole slaw. My wife got pork bowl with potato and sour cream. My sandwich was good but the sweet potato was just mushed up sweet potatoes tossed in a cup. It had no Brown sugar or some type of seasoning or garnish to make it appealing. I had to ask for my Cole slaw after the meal was delivered. The Cole slaw tasted old and right out of a can. My wifes dinner was OK at best. She did not get her sour cream. At this point I am to frustrated to ask for the sour cream. My meals with 2 sodas came to $29.00. I felt this was way overpriced. The price does not factor if service is correct and care is taken. We felt cheated. I know for a fact that kind of business will not last. It may just be the combo of employees working that day that lacked care but this will contribute to failure and should not be tolerated. BAD EXPERIENCE.

The bathroom was super dirty. I ate lunch there today and it was like a high school hang out with the employees. One girl was brought sushi and was eating it in there while we were there like it was a staff lunch room. One employee was walking around eating while doing her work duties. The cashier was the only girl working. She made orders, greeted guests and was cleaning and filling the bbq sauce bottles . It was super awkward eating there and we were the only ones there. I wont be coming back there. Thumbs up to the only girl actually working today around 3ish. If you are reading this review i wouldnt eat there again. Im not super picky or anything it was just really awkward. The food was good other then the cold mac&cheese i had. I dont even like hot food so my mac&cheese was really cold for me. I give this place two stars.

Made a trip out to test Old Southern BBQ Smokehouse. I was really hoping for someone to come up with real southern BBQ, other than just having in the name (Southern) in the establishment. I agree that they are using the right type of wood, but it was lacking one main thing aspect. Moistness!! And finishing or warming up ribs and chicken and open grill does not work. We tried all of the meats, (brisket, chicken, pork and ribs), but we like the beans the most. Yes, the beans were the best part, even over the meats. On a downturn to the beans, they tasted canned. The slaw was also tasteless as if they were store bought. We did have a waitress, but she seemed more like a manager. Extremely nice and very helpful with information… I will give my 2 stars to her!!

Absolutely love this place! The food, atmosphere and staff are all fantastic! My only complaint is that they are s o-o-o s-l-o-o-o-w-w! And their new system went from slow to even slower. I realize its not exactly fast food, but its not table service either. Well, now, it sort of is. Also, the original flow they had was much more intuitive upon entering than the new one. Makes no sense, is awkward, and stacks people on top of one another. Love you guys, but it was better before....why change what worked well (at least for your guests) before?! Overall, a great place though!

I spent nearly $60 for takeout brisket and sausage. I got home and the 4 sausages I bought were completely burnt. The skin was unedible, had to eat around it. For the price spent on delicious sausage this should not happen. I have yet to order sausage that has not been burnt. There were 3-4 people behind the counter and nobody was watching the sausage cook. We love the brisket and sausage but for the amount spent, I think there needs to be more care in the preparation. I see Im not the only one complaining about the burnt food.

Excellent BBQ, but a bit expensive in the platters for what you get. Our trick is to order what we want by weight/size and then share on paper plates. So for my wife and I we get a pound of pulled pork, a pint of beans, a side of mac and cheese, and a couple muffin tops. Makes a great meal and then we have leftovers. The pulled pork can be hit or miss, sometimes not great and other times its unbelievable. But overall a great place to eat. Only suggestion would be to add another side to the platters, then they would be a fair price.

Id give an honest 4 stars for the food but overall only 1 star based on price!! Holy crap, over $17.00 just for my meal alone is crazy and I didnt even come SLIGHTLY close to being full. For the price the portions should be double what they are!!! What a disappointment this place was!!! I still cant get over how small the portions were for the price I paid!! Will not be back to this place EVER again!!!!!!

Im a truck driver, so Ive ate bbq just about everywhere. This is a great spot!!! Brisket awesome and thats a hard thing to do, most places cant do it. Pull pork was awesome too, both had great flavor!!!! Price was lower than expected, which was nice. Good bbq cost good money, and these folks got it just right. Great bbq at a low price. Cant beat it and I cant wait to get back!!!!!!!!

Our sides were really good, as was the cornbread. My wifes chicken was really good, although the white meat was somewhat dry. The dark meat was excellent. I had the brisket which tasted good but was a little dry. The sauces were really good. We would go back.

Brisket was awful. It was overdone and tasted like a pot roast. Disappointing because Ive eaten at the Hayward location several times and it has been amazing every time. I definitely wont be back to the Rice Lake location.

Got the beef brisket and broccoli salad. Was impressed by the variety of bbq sauce selections, they were all delicious. Also enjoyed my broccoli salad much more than I thought I was going to.

This might be famous Daves new project but he hasnt invested enough time in training. Recipes are good but the staff is not. Over cooked ribs and burned sausage is not worth the money

Pulled pork had nice smoked pink ring and good flavor. 5 sauces available. Really enjoyed the Dixie red and the Diablo batch. Be aware Diablo is spicy. Tangy slaw was good.

Nothing special. Friendly staff. Tables were sticky and sort of filthy. Restrooms were nice. Check it out now. I give it a year and they will be gone if things dont change.

Very good food. Coleslaw is yummy, ribs are good, pulled pork is yummy. Corn bread is good only a bit toasty :( Prices are okay. Only been there once. LOVE their sauces.
