Completely hated it now. I just went there on 2/3/2015. Horrible. They not only messed up my order again (called in) but packed the food completely wrong. I mean any Japanese Restaurant knows how to pack food, Especially Ramen. so for those people who dont know: when packing any type of ramen, you use more than one container for many reasons; main reason being is that the noodles and anything other than the broth will get too thick and soggy. sometimes not even worth eating. Most place just seperate the broth and anything non broth. what happened in detail: I ordered 2 pork ramen bowls and california roll sushi on the phone, they said it was like $17 (rounded it up to next dollar) and i need to pay in cash or order more. I told her i order 2 pork bowls and she said yes that with 2. i didnt have cash so i decided to just go to the bank and withdraw some before getting there. (takes me like 20-25 to get there and 15 for the bank) I get there, its packed and all the waiters are running around all over the place. I walk to the cashier area (which i do wish they would change because it is in the way back literately right next to a table. I tell them im here for pick up, i see the owner so i smile. He just gives me a grim scowl. i see the waitress pull from the side a 2 container that had been sitting on the counter (since i walked in) One pork ramen and california roll. I was so pissed off by it that i didnt even bother complaining and just left. Im sorry to say this but i suggest people not to go there. I gave it another shot, it failed so badly it wasnt funny. _______________________________________________________________ Honest run down. ITS O.K, maybe below average. This is coming from someone who has Japanese relatives AND has had actual Japanese food from several places in different states. its a bit over priced, Ive had better quality food for $1-2 less. plus the minimum purchase (to use a card, even debit) is $25 But for it one out of 2 good Japanese restaurants in the town, its understandable why people give it such great reviews. (no offense to anyone) service is half and half; they have messed up my order before, (even made me pay for it even though it was there mistake) , they can make people wait a bit, but they do come and check on you. Ive had stomach and lower bowel problems out of the 2/3 times ive had gone (yes they do add more oil then they should and ginger), the one time i didnt; i order fish it was fine. Theyre sushi is 99% spot on, so when suggesting to anyone who goes, order more fish dishes/sushi. I would recommend it to a friend but i wouldnt go there like every weekend or something, or if they has a weak stomach. id suggest going there like 2-4 times a years. If it ever improves i might rewrite a review. but so far nope.

The hamachi was excellent, the maguro had membrane that was not chewable in the slice but was otherwise quite tasty, the salmon was buttery-soft and tasty, cali rolls appear to be surimi salad instead of real crab, but they are still good, but my real diagnostic - the ikura (2008.1) - was terribly disappointing (2009.2 note: they have changed their supplier or something. Ikura is now restaurant-quality and very tasty! Thanks, Hakata!). I have ordered it three times from this place and I will not do so again (2009: Obviously, I did. And Im glad I did!) . They use(d) bait-cured salmon eggs: tough! [OLD, 2008 rant: I have never encountered this uniform use of bait in any other town that serves sushi, but in this part of Washington State, which admittedly has a lot of salmon roe suppliers that do specialize in bait - all three sushi places I have tried serve this very tough ikura. I have had sushi on three continents and a subcontinent, and I have only rarely encountered such tough ikura before - and never in all the sushi restaurants in one town. Why they think this will appeal to their customers mystifies me. It *looks* fine, of course, and one never has to worry about any of the eggs breaking...!] 2009: Way to go, Hakata! Your sushi rules!!!

Well we have been living in Silverdale for about 3 months now and havent been out to the local restaurants, so we decided to try Hakata Japanese restaurant because of the good reviews. as we arrived there it was busy and excited to see why so many people liked it, after getting seated and waiting about 15 to 20 mins just to order drinks which by the way is "green tea or soda" we order two rolls, tempura and miso soup. Expecting it to be good we were completely wrong in every way. First they never brought the green tea we ordered and the sushi rolls were not very well made for the price they were set at. All in all after waiting for so long, $30 out of my pocket I have to say probably the worse Sushi Restaurant we have ever been to; you ever want to go to a good Sushi Restaurant? Go to Califorina a town called Rancho Cucamonga and eat at SanSai

Hakata is my favorite restaurant, hands down. I love the staff as much as I love the food and have never had a bad experience or subpar dish in all my 24 years of going there. Sugi, the chef and owner, truly cares about all of his customers and makes the experience truly special. The mark of a good restaurant is when the simplest dishes are amazing, and the most simple dish on the menu is my favorite - kobachi, just marinated bean sprouts. Their green tea and miso soup are the best Ive ever had, but are not to be outdone by grilled squid, baked mussels, beef sashimi, or the "world famous" spicy tuna. Disney had it wrong, Hakata is the happiest place on earth.

I ordered the Chirasi Bowl. It has incredibly small portions of fish and not very much fish, also two pieces of fish were completely inedible, stinky, hard, tasted terrible and I had to spit them out. Do not order the Chirasi Bowl. My husband ordered the Katsudon and he thought it was OK, nothing special. The Miso soup & hot tea were our favorite parts of the meal, both were wonderful and I really, really wanted to like this place because there is not much great sushi around here. I am willing to try it again and order something different but so far, not great.

Horrible service and food. Not impressed one bit. We were hoping to see a large variety of sushi choices and unfortunately we were unpleasantly surprised. However we tried looking on the upside in hopes they would be able to do minor alterations to their current sushi choices such as deep frying or anything. The waitress rudely said no and still further gave us bad service. Please dont waste your time if you want good service and good sushi. Waste of ours.

My favorite is the Teriyaki salmon and my companions favorite is the Pork Katsu. We both love the california roll and have yet to find a place that can make it better then Hakata. We both also love the lightly battered tempura which is as perfect as it gets. Hakata is one of the best Japanese resturants in the state of Washington. The cost is very reasonable and the quality and flavor of their food which is fantastic.

"World Famous Spicy Tuna," the owner exclaims in a joking manner. However, she is actually serious. This is the best spicy tuna I have ever had... and I eat a lot of sushi. Ive become a regular and have gotten to know the owners, Chiyukisan and Sugisan, personally. But, Im not unique. They care a great deal for their customers. Their customers are their friends. The spicy chicken appetizer is also my favorite.
