We moved to Williamsburg recently, after having lived in Texas for about eight years, and I had heard good things from friends about South of the Border. My husband really liked the chips and salsa, but I thought they werent that great. They should at least be better than Chilis chips, and these were not. Plus the salsa was way too mild. I usually order a chile relleno the first time I visit a new Mexican restaurant, and the relleno I got from here was not that great. Instead of real cheese inside of it, it was some kind of runny white cheese sauce, so I was not impressed. And if a restaurant cant make a good relleno, then I doubt their ability to impress me with other items. My husband said his chimichanga was okay, but not the best. The margarita was very good, and cheap for the size I got. I cannot, however, recommend a Mexican restaurant based on how good the margaritas are, unless that is the only reason you go to a Mexican restaurant, rather than for the food, as well. So, definitely not the worst Mexican food Ive had. Not even the worst Ive had in Williamsburg. But also not the best.

obviously planted reviews regardless of what they come back at me with. All the positives make you say how bad can it be....well let me tell you how bad, the tacos #77 were so greasy the tortillas (corn) could not be picked up they were drenched. The steak was not steak but tiny 1/4 inch cube pieces of the worst beef and gristle. Even still we tried to give it a go but then 10 minutes into eating my stomach hurt with such pain we had to leave immediately, upon getting home we decided I had better go to the ER! Once there I found out that the pain was due to rancid grease that they cooked everything in and basically I was being positioned by it. The Doctors reported it to the health dept and so will I once I feel better. That was 2 nights ago and I still have stomach pain and swelling. I can not believe this place is open.

I am from California so I KNOW good Mexican food. Cons: -Microwaved food -Waters were not refilled despite my Bf and I being the only customers -Took over 20 minutes to get our check -Gave me the wrong order (wanted one tamale; instead, I got a plate of tamales with beans and rice. Tamales were atrocious at best: no flavor, dumped some salty sauce on it and seriously overpriced for what it was) -People are probably writing good reviews after a few marggies. Shame on you! Pros: -The Walking Dead was on that night -I have a handsome boyfriend This place needs to be remodeled starting with their staff and food. Ive had better service at Taco Bell. I feel sorry for the people that are writing rave reviews about this place because A) They have never had good Mexican food or B) It is the staff writing those reviews

OMG! This place is great! Dont go for atmosphere, but go for food! Some of the best Mexican fair Ive ever had. The chips and salsa are so good, but the fajitas are to die for, skip the ckicken and stay with steak ( tender, moist, & flavorful) or shrimp, done very well. As for the margarita, just get the huge one, but dont plan on driving after it, it strong. All in all, if you are in Williamsburg, this is a place you should not miss!

Ordered Nacho Grande the only thing grande was the amount of lettuce they put on it. It had no cheese and no tomato, the meat tasted cheap. Our waitress only came once to see if we needed a refill. The guy who served our food didnt tell us our plates were hot so my wife burned her fingers pulling the plate toward us. He was not very friendly either. Also nacho grande had like 4 tortilla chips in it. Not impressed at all.

The place was clean, the staff was friendly & the prices were reasonable. Our only complaint is the food needed more seasoning. We added hot sauce & S&P to give it more flavor. The bean and cheese pupusas were yummy! The Fajitas & Chicken Chimichangas were tasty too. Complimentary beans with Queso cheese, salsa & tortilla chips were great after a long day at Busch Gardens! I would recommend going & will come back.

I couldnt go elsewhere for Mexican in Williamsburg. Im a local, and this place makes the short list of places we go out for dinner. Great food, great margaritas, great value for the money. The management just makes the place, though. They are so nice, and I like giving good people my business. Like Suddswife said, its unassuming from the outside. Good eats on the inside.

Im not just saying this. These 5 stars are deserved. I have ate here since a kido. I remember the first edible bowl I got. I was thrilled. Place has always had a amazing atmosphere and great service. Dont go in expecting the world. If there busy your going to have to wait. This isnt fast food. This is food that takes time to mold into a tasty creation. :)

In my personal experience on Mexican food, this is actually one of the worst restaurants I have ever come across. There is nothing of authentic Mexican food in this place and the waiters are rude and they bring you whatever they want and not what you ordered. Waste of money, we ate some but left most of the food. DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!

Staff could use a shot of enthusiasm. Food is not bad...not the best either. Large portions served but the salsa tastes like tomato sauce and the mexican rice is really overcooked (extremely boiled). Salad vegetables were also wilted and not crispy. Sorry guys...might want to try an appetizer first before ordering a spread at this restaurant.

I do not claim to be an expert on Mexican food, but we enjoyed our meal (lunch) here very much. In addition to the normally expected salsa with chips, they served us a bean/queso dip that was yummy. The kids meals at $3.50 were good deal. Portion size on the adult meal was also good. We thought the food was delicious and we will return.

Hands down the best Mexican restaurant in town. If you want authentic Mexican food and excellent customer service then you definitely want to come to South of the border. The owners are very involved with the restaurant and they pamper and cater to their customers. This is one restaurant that I can recommend without hesitations.

I NEVER post a review - EVER!!!! This place was so amazing that I need to tell the world. Very authentic food. All 4 in our party enjoyed our selections. I got the jumbo burrito special. It had fajita chicken, fajita steak and jumbo shrimp. All were fantastic. If youre in Williamsburg, you MUST come here

Excellent, Im glad I found this place before our drive back to New Jersey. The food was delicious and the service was great, including the speed of service. After reading so many negative reviews of other restaurants in the area, Im glad I found this place. We will definitively visit again.
