My husband and I went here because we live at the apartments across the parking lot. Every time we have walked by Plaza Azteca it always smelled so good, so tonight we thought wed give it a try. It was NOT worth the money. My husband enjoyed what he ordered (some kind of Chicken Zucchini Specialty Platter), but I was not happy with what I ordered. I ordered Chicken Fajitas, which were actually very tasty... but it came with a lot of chicken and veggies, but only 3 tortillas?? I asked the waitress if I could have some more tortillas and she said, "You want to order a side of tortillas?" I was like, "Doesnt the Fajita Meal come with more than 3 tortillas?" She said that they do not and that it would be extra. I have never heard of a Mexican Restaurant that only gives you 3 tortillas for a pound of chicken and veggies... and then charges you extra? I have even seen some Mexican Restaurants give you unlimited tortillas for free as an appetizer with your chips! So now I have 1/2 pound of chicken and veggies in my fridge and I will need to go to the grocery store and buy my own tortillas after paying $12 for the meal in the first place! On top of that our server was a little blah. She was attentive, but not the best at customer service. She kept reaching over my food to clear things off the table. She came to clear our dishes before we had even said we were through. She just seemed to be in a hurry and it therefore left me feeling rushed.... :- I think we will stick to dining out elsewhere.

Decent place, but I wasnt blown away. The place was attractive... I liked the heavy wood tables and chairs. Im not sure I wouldve thought it was a mexican restaurant had I not known ahead of time... it almost reminded me of a medieval style steakhouse that was popular in the 70s or early 80s... it was cool, though... I dont mention this as a negative. The food was good, but nothing that couldnt be found at a million other places... possibly with better service. This place is a safe choice, but if you have the time, explore other options. *FRESH TABLE-SIDE GUACAMOLE* I was a little disappointed with this. They roll a cart out and prepare your customized guac right in front of you. Nice gimmick, but Im not sure it is necessary. I suspect that this guac can be very good, but it will completely depend on the server/cook whipping this up for you. The options I received as my guac was prepared were "hot or mild." Once prepared, I thought the guac was okay... but not fantastic as other reviewers had mentioned. Then, I noticed that the server/cook preparing fresh guac at the table behind me was asking more questions... like how much pepper?... how much tomato?... do you want onions?... etc. For that reason, I suspect that the guac here can be fantastic... but only if you get a server that makes an effort to prepare it exactly how you want it.

Went there this evening with my wife. We were both starved from a day of bicycling along the peninsula. We were looking for something tasty, fresh and spicy. After reading so many five star reviews, it looked like we could hardly go wrong at Plaza Azteca! The meal I ordered was described as "Pan seared delicious fettucini with shrimp, chipotle, roasted corn sauce, cilantro and queso fresco." The shrimp turned out to be large-ish and tasty, but that was the ONLY thing this meal had going for it! A more appropriate description would have been "Spicy cheese sauce over noodles with shrimp nearby." I love chipotle peppers, and there was nary a suggestion of any chipotle flavor in this dish! And for this I paid fourteen dollars (just for the entree)! Very disappointing. To be fair my wife enjoyed her burrito, an it was substantial. The service was prompt and friendly, Ill go that far. The atmosphere of this restaurant was simply LOUD. At close to 8 pm on a Monday, there were many booths with children all around, and theres nothing in the decor to reduce the cacaphony. As the children got noisy, the diners raised their voices in response. This place probably works well for large families, but I dont recommend it for couples looking for a quiet dinner out.

Bad service. Food was decent. My wife and I waited at an empty lobby for 10 minutes to be seated. A couple had come in right behind us. We waited 20 minutes before our drink order was taken when we noticed the couple that came in after us had ordered and was now eating. We could hardly believe our eyes. I had to catch the waitresses attention while she was walking by to tell her we were ready to order drinks. Once we ordered drinks they came in a decent amount of time, but afterwards we waited another 20 minutes before she returned to take our food order. Once our order was placed and we had waited an additional 20 minutes the couple that came in behind us had received their check at this time. This is no exaggeration as I compared the time on the reciept from Vanity Fair which is in the same shopping center to the reciept I received from Plaza Azteca. The time lapse was from 4:02 to 5:30. I wanted this to be a pleasant dining experience, but was thoroughly disappointed by the service. My family had no complaints about the good which was above adequate quality.

For graduation, our family went to Plaza Azteca because we all love mexican food! The complimentary chips and 2 salsas were wonderful and the selection of food is great! We ended up getting guacamole, which was made table side while we ordered the rest of our food. The guac was heavenly! Our food came quickly and was piping hot. I ordered chile rellenos and the Texas fajitas and both were super delicious. My son ordered a chicken and bean burrito which was large and he said it was really good. My husband ordered chicken enchiladas and a chicken soft taco and he is a bit picky when it comes to mexican food, but he said that it tasted great. We are definitely going back soon!

Ive been a happy frequenter of several other Plaza Azteca locations but I had a particularly mediocre experience at this one with inattentive service, delayed food, and even a generally poor business layout. It was difficult to maneuver on foot between tables and even into the bathroom. The floors between the bathroom and the restaurant were both very wet and slippery. Our waiter made periodic stops at the table but it took several hours to get through the meal due to slow service, a reported computer problem, and then food not appearing in a timely fashion. Id be willing to give this spot another go but its fairly bad in comparison to other PA location experiences.

we took our parents to dinner here and all were disappointed. the margarita I received was watered down (I wonder if it had been sitting at the bar for awhile). we all ordered our typical mexican favorites. the enchiladas supreme I ordered was filling, and had enough meat, but lacked flavor. same with the chimichangas that were ordered; parents said totally lacked flavor. we have dined at South of the Border for two years now, and will not dine at any other mexican restaurant now. SOTB has best margaritas, and entrees are all authentic and flavorful! so if you really want good mexican, do not waste your time at this place, but go to South of the Border.
