Friendly service, that is why it rates 1 star instead of less. I was born and raised in California (still live there), this food does not even come close to edible Mexican food. The re-fried beans came out of a can, the enchilada sauce came out of the cheapest can and does not taste at all like real enchilada sauce made from real dried red chilies. The Chili Relleno was with a real chili, but all of the spice was rinsed out of it, it had ground beef and some kind of white cheese sprinkled on it and served sliced open. A real Chili Relleno is stuffed with white Mexican cheese, dipped in egg batter and fried. The salsa had no spice at all. The rice had no taste. Maybe the East Coast palette cannot handle the heat of real Mexican food, or the proper ingredients arent available, or all of the above. The best I can say about the food here is that it did not make me sick, only disappointed.

Above average Mexican place. The service was great. The food was really good when it was really good and average when it wasnt. The prices were about 20% more than what Im used to in the south, where we have many, many above average Mexican restaurants. The waitress we had both nights was polite, pretty, and attentive. As a person who considers Mexican restaurants to be comfort food, next time Im in Williamsburg and tired and hungry, Ill remember La Tolteca. (Its not the easiest to see from the road. And since I was out of town using a GPS, both nights I shot past it and had to turn around.)

The service was fast and the food was delicious. I judge Mexican restaurants by how long the food gets to you after the corn chips are done and Im happy to say that me and my gf didnt get to finish them before our food was brought out. The staff were very attentive and gave us plenty of time to browse their very extensive menu. We will definitely eat hear again next time we are in Williamsburg and I would suggest you do the same if youre looking for a good meal.

As I have told friends before, La Tolteca (LT) is ok, outside of the refried beans which tend to be bland and have excessive water. BUT if youre going out to a Mexican Restaurant only for refried beans - you have some deeper issues you should have professionally evaluated. In Williamsburg, I prefer Plaza Azteca (PA) not that LT is bad; but PA is a bit better for my preferences. LT offers Chile Verde (with which they do a good job) and PA doesnt.

This is a family owned Mexican restaurant that has average food. The family is extremely nice and hospitable, it feels like your walking into their house. The staff speaks enough English to communicate the necessities. The food is consistently average but with a huge menu, its possible to find something that fits your needs. The price for entrees is great ($9-15) but the guacamole and beans and other "addons" are a little over priced $3-5.

Was visiting from out of town and wanted some good and decently priced Mexican food and came here...was very pleased by it all! Real good food, pretty great prices, laid back cozy environment and great service! Definitely worth your visit! (unless you are needing a super fancy pants atmosphere to impress your loved one for an anniversary or first date or something...otherwise this is a great option!!)

Fast friendly service you can eat here for lunch from work they are that fast. I love the black bean quesadilla vegetarian option it is so good. Chips are okay sauce is not bad but not much of it. I would love a spoon put on my table with the knife and fork. Why does no Mexican place include a spoon?

My first vist for dinner. I was delighted with the combo plate I ordered, I had a hard time deciding which item would be left on my plate after I reached my bursting point. I decided to skip the rice. The price was reasonable, the service excellent and the food quite good. I will return for dinner again!

There is no better Mexican restaurant as far as I am concerned. My husband and I come here a couple times a week. Friends come here as well quite frequently. Service is excellent and food is superior. It is excellent EVERY time! Brigette Kirtley

Weve been eating here for the past 15 years and when we try other places, we always say La Tolteca is much better the food is very good, the service is always attentive and theres nothing like that cold draft beers in the summertime.

This place is a local favorite of our family. The menu gets more authentic with each page with light Mexican fare for the kiddies and pretty authentic flavors for the adults.

Server tried to argue with me about the food and finally told me thats just the way things come. Not a fan of the food or the staff at least on this particular day.
