Lovely little place tucked into the Kimpton property hotel. Was seated immediately in spite of it being Mothers Day. The bisque with crab was lovely, of course never enough crab, but the right amount with a delicious oil on top. If the devil is in the details they need to work on the bread and hummus - granted it was a Sunday but it was Mothers Day so they should have anticipated people coming in? Bread was uninspired, slightly stale and cold. The hummus was equally bland and insipid - if youre going to serve hummus instead of good butter, make it cilantro hummus or harissa spiced hummus, not hummus that fails to beat supermarket sabra brand. The ahi poke was very tasty with the addition of a little salt, it had a tasty amount of sesame oil and a lovely scent from same, the spiced cream cheese on the side added a great kick. The wonton chips were incredibly greasy, could have used a little more draining. Most surprising were the off hand order of the Brussels sprouts - what no bacon? How can they be good without bacon? They were outstanding!! Redolent with garlic and with a nice crunch from sliced almonds and pumpkin seeds I believe, along with a peppery kick, they made the dinner. You can do sprouts without bacon!! And well. Look forward to coming back and trying the entrees.

Was there with a co-worker to celebrate his birthday. We were seated immedaitely despite it being Friday and during the lunch hour. While the greeting could have been more warm, we sat in a comfortable booth, which was adjustable (being a bit taller and wider than the norm, this was nice). The lunch menu was fairly reasonable, had some nice choices. We settled on a cheese board appetizer. This surpassed our expectations! The lakosh cracker or bread was crisp, well seasoned with seeds and spices. It paired well with the cheese, including a smoked cheese (Gouda?), swiss and a spread cheese, rolled in chopped chives, as well as sliced salami and a small dish of selected olives. Next, my guest chose a Mexican street taco of deep fried trout (think fish taco), topped with house made slaw, dipped in slightly spicy sauce. I had a bite. Liked it very much, ole! i ordered a grilled chicken club with pesto? and grilled fittes, which were fried with fresh rosemary and sage, maybe a little garlic? They were oh so good. The chicken was very good as well. We split a creme brulee topped with blackberries. I should mention I tried a Lavendar Blackberry cold drink which was very good as well. Service was attentive, if not overly friendly.

We came here for brunch before the Opera. Its not $3 mimosas. But, thats not what you come here for. You come here for fine dining, excellent service and hopefully very good food. You can pretty much assume most hotels have "hotel" food. Thats competent food done by the numbers thats somewhat overpriced. Fortunately, Kimpton hotels break the mold. Ive always had well prepared food worth the price. In Utah, the cocktails are over priced, but decent. There are more trendy places and arguably better values at other very good places downtown, but nothing really embodies grand dining and elegance as well. Ive been here for dinner with the wife recently as well. It was also up to snuff. You can spend more at Grand America, but I find it all to sterile there. Over the years Hotel Monaco has been through ups and downs. Probably more downs than ups. Im thrilled its in an up phase.

Bambara served us the best meal we have had in a long time maybe ever. The service was impeccable from the moment we walked in the door. They greeted us fabulously then Jack (our handlebar mustached waiter), again greeted us and noted that is was my birthday. They gave us birthday menus and we started getting excited. The bread was nothing too exciting however the hummus was delish! I started with the pear and Gorgonzola salad, which may have been my favorite thing of the night. The soup was also yummo. Then the entrées I had their filet minion which is served with Sweet Onion Puree, Garlic Braised Kale, Semolina Onion Rings, and Maine Lobster Butter. YUMMMMM! The filet was cooked perfectly and with the sauce so so great! My husband had the Bison and says it was worth every penny. We got out of there including a tip for under $150. Totally worth it!

I was invited to Bambara by the Hotel Monaco for a pitch and it was a most enjoyable lunch. I have been a few times before so when I got invited I was quick to jump on the opportunity. Bambara is a great place to eat and meet. I have enjoyed everything that I have tried there and never seen a dish that looked disappointing. If you are looking for a relatively quick lunch and happen to be downtown then this is a good place to stop. You often have to listen to attorneys talking about cases whenever you are there during lunch because apparently Bambara is the place partners at big law firms like to take junior associates in Salt Lake City. Therefore, when I go I like to make fun of attorneys a little too loud. The soups are always amazing and never leave without a fresh baked cookie. Whatever you choose in between you will be happy with.

I had been to Bambaras for a business lunch (which was great), so decided to take some friends there for a birthday dinner 1/11/2013. What a huge disappointment!! We ordered the cheese plate and tuna tartare appetizers: the cheese plate was pretty good, although not enough toast points; the tuna tartare simply didnt work, was a very odd flavor profile that didnt complement the tuna at all. For the entrees we did the filet, chicken, scallops and NY steak. Im running out of space for this review, but suffice to say everything was "ok" (although the scallops were a little over cooked). This restaurant would be fine if the prices were cut in half, its WAY WAY over priced for what you get. The desserts were HORRIBLE, the two cakes we got were overcooked to the point of being inedible.

It was my daughters 50th birthday weekend. (We went on April 17th) so I wanted to take her someplace special. We drove bout 300 miles to shop, sigh see, etc. I found Bambara on line. Service - exceptional; starters - the muscles were incredible. She had lamb with baby kale. I had scallops with risotto and brussel sprouts. Presentation - beautiful. Mine was so salty it was inedible. Not just one dish, the whole plate. Because it was her day, I didnt say anything. Later she told me hers was also, although she ate the lamb so I wouldnt be upset. They did give her a complimentary dessert - chocolate creme brule, which she said was good. This may have been a bad night for the chef but consistency is important in a fine dining restaurant. Very disappointing. Alice English

Hello friend. My name is Chad E Willoughby and I have known Nathan, Tracy and Charlotte Powers for several years now. This is truly a world class restaurant, very similar to what you would find in New York City or Chicago Illinois. I have had nearly everything on the menu here and I love everything. If I could have only three things on the menu however I would order the lamb slider sandwiches (accompanied by french fries) on the lunch menu, the salmon eggs benedict on the breakfast menu and the rainbow trout which is also on the lunch menu. The atmosphere here is really hip. I would compare the setting to a disco dancer wearing cowboy boots. Tough, classy and full of sex appeal. Do yourself a favor and enjoy the best food that Salt Lake City has to offer.
