Hands down, my new favorite Indian restaurant. This was my second time going to this restaurant, this experience was much better than my first. To be fair, the first time I went it was only their second day open. The reason it wasnt a great experience was 3/4 of the menu was unavailable. Ive wanted to return for quite some time, but for some reason my wife has never been interested. Finally this past Sunday 11-06-16 we were in the area and stopped in. I find Indian restaurants come in two varieties. Fancy ones and the ones that you could just as easily imagine them being in actual India. This place falls somewhere in the middle. The decor is nice enough, time will tell if its maintained. There are HUGE windows in to the kitchen, I didnt witness anyone over there watching, but its cool that its an option. The menu is extensive. There are so many options its staggering, but Im confident in recommending anything on that menu. Close your eyes and jab a finger at the menu, I dont think you could be disappointed with whatever shows up at your table. Its so awesome to have a vegetarian option like this in the land of steak and I think it wouldnt be hard to take a meat eater here and have them leave satisfied.

I had visited Saravana Bhavan at Houston for 1st time along with my 3 other friends and we had wprst experience. We have placed 4 different orders and we received food of 3 orders in next 5 minutes. I had waited for 30 minutes, but we did not receive food for my 4th order. When I enquired about my order the Waiter (he said his name is Niranjan, he is tall, bold head & he is tamilian) who took my order said with careless "its coming". When my other 3 friends finished eating their food, I had to cancel the 4th order as they doing delay and asked them to bring the check. I think Niranjan(Waiter) missed my 4th order but he even not accepting that and arguing with me that why did I cancel the order. When I asked him to provide his manager name and phone number, he was saying he is the manager. He ( Niranjan) is such an arrogant person and not at all respecting a customer. This is a very bad experience that I never had.

Though the food was absolutely delicious, the service provided was not. The wait staff was slow in taking orders, and providing good service. We ordered paneer biryani, and we had to remind the waiter about it once we were almost done with dinner to bring it. When it was finally brought to us after lots of waiting, we were told we would have to wait ten more minutes for the raita that accompanies the biryani. Even then, it was brought to us after 25 minutes. The waitstaff did not apologize for this, and were in no rush to get us our food in a timely manner. After the bill was paid and everything, while we were walking out of the restaurant, the manager at the entrance avoided our gaze, didnt apologize or say goodbye or anything. Again, the food was amazing, but due to the poor service we will not be returning.

No doubt food is tasty, but not sure if cleanliness and hygiene of utensils is emphasized here. I had coffee served in a small stainless steel glass. When I was about to finish my coffee, I realized that the inner surface of the glass had patches of thin brown layer which clearly indicated that the glass was not been properly cleaned for a period and seems being reused by rinsing with water. I took a picture of this unhygienic glass and raised the issue with the waiter. So, the cost of coffee that I had paid was refunded. I wonder, if this restaurant is not even bothered to server food in clean and hygienic utensils, what would be the condition of the utensils that are being used to prepare food.

The most unprofessional restaurant Ive ever been to. This is not how any other branches of this establishment. Food was ok, not UpTo saravanaa Bhavan standards tho. Absolutely the worst service Ive ever received. They dont even acknowledge you when you walk in and have waited confused if theyre coming over to seat you or not! Pretty much everyone who worked there seemed OK but the Worst waiter ever served us! This guy shouldnt be working anywhere where he has to deal with people, he doesnt greet you thank you for the tip, nothing! Hes a true little you know what that brings down the standards of this franchise! Never going back there! Hes welcome for the tip we left!

In a span of 10 days we have been to Sarvanaa Bhavan four times, that itself speaks about the food there. We had parota which is the south Indian, Kerala dish and we absolutely loved it. We also had their Sarvana special meals and I had completely finished the entire thali. If you order the rava dosa, make sure you eat it before it gets cold otherwise you will miss all the crispiness of the dosa.If you like some Indian sweet, definitely try the Badam halwa, it just melts in your mouth and you will long for more. For me it is the best Indian restaurant in Houston till date.

Their quality changes literally every time I go here. They are simply riding on the good will earned back in India. Sometimes the sambar is too salty sometimes there is no salt. The dosa battered isnt fermented well. The dosa batter sometimes will be too salty sometimes not. You literally cannot expect the same taste every time and the variation 99 percent of the times is for the worst. I have been served cold stuff which I have returned. No use being sarvanna bhavan if you cant comply with basic quality.

Saravana Bhavan is THE place where you can get the most authentic South Indian vegetarian food (specifically Tamil food) anywhere in and around Houston. If you are used to South Indian taste, youll love here. Pleasant ambiance, cordial service, excellent food and a great family friendly atmosphere. They dont serve alcohol. If you need a drink at the end, try the Madras Coffee... the great after taste will last for a long time after youre done!

This has been the best South Indian restaurant in Houston for quite long time. It is 100% vegetarian. We have visited it so many times and still cannot get enough of it. Some of our favorite dishes are Chana bhatura, paper plain dosa and mini ghee idly dipped in sambhar. Mini ghee idly is a must try dish and filtered coffee like the way we have back in Bangalore !

This place only recently opened up in Houston, Texas (December 20th, 2014). I was very excited because this place is famous worldwide for their masala dosa. When I first tried it here, I was not disappointed. Dont listen to the haters; if you want some authentic South-Indian food, try this place out. What to order: -Masala Dosa Pros: -Price Cons: -None

Service at the entry was alright, but we had a polite lady server. She was awesome about giving us all details we asked for. Definitely authentic south indian food. Dosas were awesome. Thali was super huge and filling. Dont forget Madras coffee at the end :). Place was super clean and fairly big compared to New York Saravana Bhavan.

When they first opened, service was very slow. Theyve since picked up. Milagapodi dosa - unique taste. Good value Drinks - beyond overpriced Veg Manchuria - doesnt look or taste anything like Manchuria. Get it if you want to abuse and torture your stomach Thalis & combos - good value Dosas - good enough Fitter coffee - overrated
