I used to work here and I loved the job except for a lot of things that they let happen in the kitchen. During breakfast the cooks cook raw chicken right next to the eggs that they are about to serve . Then they take the chicken and move it to a tray under the grill and pile it all on top of each other until lunch time where they try to cook the chicken on the grill again and usually comes out raw. The salmon and fish are all frozen. Nothing there is made fresh. The pasta comes all out of boxes. I have fought with Nick (when I used to work there) to please not let them send food out that has fallen on the floor. A fight I lost. I will never forget the first thing, an order of wings that fell on the floor and they sent it out and they almost sent me home because I was so angry about it and I fought with them the whole day. The cook Jose and Cathy and Nick just made me get over it and they sent it out. I would see the cooks cut raw Salmon with the same knife as they cut avocados with, without doing any cleaning of the knife other than using a dirty white towel to quickly wipe it up and down. When it came to health inspections we had to distract the inspector and keep him downstairs as long as possible so that we had enough time to cover all the ice cream, fruits, vegetables, etc. with plastic wrap because if the inspector saw it they would fail. The cooks never wear gloves unless Nick yells at them all day to do so, but the next day no one cares again. Cathy and Nick would talk very poorly of customers like Mr. Deering from the Middle School or George from United Water and Nick would try to make me always take their order. They also NEVER have decaf coffee. You can smell the difference between the two and he never would buy it. I had to talk to Arabica Coffee all the time and they only ever made me order regular. They had one customer complain so they bought one bag of decaf and put it on top of the machines so that the customers would believe they carried decaf. I would get yelled at any time I would ask Nick "When are we actually going to have decaf coffee?" They just add more water to the regular coffee on the decaf side and less coffee in the filter They tried to take a review on Yelp that was inconclusive and had no description of anyone to try to get me to sign a document stating I was using drugs in their store . I did everything I could to prove to them that was not true on top of the no evidence and other witnesses telling them the same. They told me I could never work there without signing this paper and degrading me in front of all the other workers so I had to quit. Then another worker called me to tell me that John Pecano came to work and shot up heroin in their store but he was only let go for a few weeks because "no one wants those hours." I had no way to make money for weeks because they never paid me on the books so even though I was there for so long they got away with not having to pay unemployment and they get away with it all the time. Fairmount Eats is a train wreck and I do not recommend a restaurant that cross contaminates food all the time, to anyone.

Do not order online. I placed an order online at 10:50 am for a 12pm delivery. After the food did not arrive at 12:10 I called to see the status because I had to leave for a meeting at 1pm. They said the driver was on the way. At 12:40 I called again to see where the food was. They said the order was not placed until 12 and would not be there until after 1. I had to cancel my order bc I needed to leave by that time so now I was left with no food and late for the meeting. If it was true that the order was placed at noon, then why was I told the first phone call it was in the way. I could have easily been able to find some other place for lunch if I was told the truth from the start. Also, my receipt clearly says the order was placed at 10:50 with a delivery time with noon. If you cant handle online orders you shouldnt offer it.

Love the decor, location and the ambiance. So cool to sit and watch the train go by; it almost feels like youve gone back in time, or youre on some rural country road rather than in Hackensack, NJ. Have only been here a handful of times but Ill be back.... because so far, havent found the food to be as great as the ambiance. The Reuben sandwich, though fresh and tasty, desperately needs either Russian or Thousand Island dressing like the traditional recipe calls for. Its pretty dry. Had pancakes this morning. The pancakes could have stayed on the griddle for maybe 20-30 more seconds. I rarely order pancakes at a diner because they tend to be slightly mushy; these were a little better than the norm. The bacon was delish. Would like to try some of the other dishes, so Ill definitely be back.

If you are ordering take out or delivery, I would watch that bill. I have ordered numerous times in the last 8 years since they opened. Breakfast is about the only thing I like there, but when they start padding the bill for the sake of making a little extra, its not right. 2 scrambled eggs on the side, was charged $4.60. Breakfast sandwich on the menu $2.75, I ask you, whats wrong with that picture. I find management rude on the phone, just cause you own the joint, doesnt mean you have to be rude, all he had to do is listen to the customer, instead he chose to speak over me. I will never use them again. And consider this, if you spend an average of $7.00 every 2 to 3 days, on a weekly basis for 8 years, well do the math. There will be other customers looking very closely.

I made an order for delivery one morning and so did the rest of my coworkers, I had order some french toast and scramble eggs, the food was delivered freezing cold and the food was some what undercooked. I was very upset but thought "hey let me give it another try, maybe they will get it right this time." Then I ordered one more time, a simple bacon egg and cheese. The food took over an hour and a half to get delivered and the sandwiches were cold once again. Seems like these people cant get nothing right, or delivered in a timely matter. And they charge you different then what the menu online says.DONT ORDER FROM HERE!!!!! Cold food and long Delivery time wait.

Well I have never been inside...seems like I should, but I use the delivery service.First of all delivery is free and that is awesome. I have always been pleased with the timeliness of the deliveries. Also, one night I was very hungry and got home late...even though I had less than 20 min to spare, FE still delivered the food...and it was in 25 min I received my food. Also the online feature is a great option, esp. if you have multiple orders. The drivers are pleasant and I have never had any problems on the phone. And of course the food is great...otherwise I would have stopped ordering from them a while ago.
