We came here because of a recommendation of one of my Japanese coworkers and it was pretty authentic like she said. The decor reminded me a lot of the mom and pop restaurants we would go to when living in Japan. Nothing fancy or modern about it. We started with various sashimi and some age dashi. We were told by our friend they always get a fish order on Fridays and that certainly seemed to be the case. The fish was very fresh and generous slices. The age dashi was cooked perfectly and the broth was well executed. I got the tempura udon and my husband got the katsu don. The shrimp tempura was fried perfectly but some of the vegetables were left in a bit too long and became oily. The udon noodles were surprisingly good but the broth was very salty. My husband said his katsu don was just like we used to get in Japan but he wishes it had come with the customary pickles. Overall I would say if youre looking for some down to Earth Japanese food this is a good place to come.

My family is Japanese. The food is good, and the menu has items you cannot get anywhere in the Triangle. Unfortunately, their two servers (a blond white girl, and a blond asian girl) are very young and have no server experience. They look confused when people enter and seem to have trouble seating them, "Uhh, I guess you can just sit wherever." Our first time eating there, this happened, and we received no menus for over ten minutes. We almost left. We have eaten there five times now. This happens every time, and those two girls have never once gotten our orders right. Something is always forgotten. They are slow, impolite, and dont understand what it takes to be a good server. Last time we saw people walk out the door upset after failing to be seated in a welcoming fashion. We would like to return, but it is unlikely we will do so while their service is so bad. Please hire nice servers. Japanese people do not treat each other this way.

Worst experience in a long time. We arrived during a lull, ordered a sushi plate, 1 roll, and 1 udon noodle bowl. The udon noodle bowl didnt arrive after an hour. Our waitress (blonde server #3) explained that the "kitchen was backed up". However, we saw that the table behind us had been delivered an extra dish (the udon noodles) that they hadnt ordered. The waitress never took responsibility and we left without the meal. We wont be back and would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone unless they want a ROTTEN CUSTOMER SERVICE experience.

Excellent food and service. The dining area and bar are small, but in no way cramped; giving a comfortable dining atmosphere. The decoration and music also lend to an authentic and laid back experience, which by my experience is unique. The food itself is also authentic and well balanced in both flavor and diversity of dishes. Finally, the staff is very generous and welcoming; taking care of all needs and topping off an overall wonderful experience.

Best sushi Ive had in a very long time, if not ever. The place is small, so if youre going at a pick hour, yes you will have to wait to be seated. Duh same thing in any good restaurant. Maybe they should have an extra server, attendant or hostess to help on busy times. Either way REALLY well worth the wait. The servers and sushi chef are friendly and the atmosphere is really cute, feels like a traditional Japanese home. We will definitely be back!

The best sushi place Ive been to in the states. Insane quality. The spider roll is made with freshly fried soft shell crab.. Ive never had it when the crab is still warm. So good! Also this toro donburi was amazing. They just had the blue fin toro arrive today. Amazing and kind staff that make u feel comfortable in groups or solo at the bar. Much love to this establishment.

Kashin is my least favorite Japanese restaurant in the Raleigh area. Dont get me wrong, the food is good and the atmosphere is nice, but in my opinion the restaurant has declined in quality after the management changed within the family business. As a whole youll be happy with the food, but I for one am not wowed by their service or food. Like my star rating says, "Its okay...."

The sushi is really good and the staff is super friendly, but its super small and cramped in there. Every time Ive been Ive had to wait for a table (outside, because there is no room inside) or sit at the bar and it takes a long time to get food because theres only one sushi chef but there certainly isnt room for another in that tiny little space.

This small, family owned and operated restaurant puts the emphasis on the food rather than the decor and ostentatious service. Kashin is my sushi restaurant of choice in the Raleigh area. While the decor is simple, the food compares favorably to many of the far more up-scale establishments that I have eaten at in New York, Vancouver and Hawaii.

By far the best sushi Ive had in Raleigh. Not only is their fish fresh and of a higher quality than Ive found elsewhere, but they also use the higher grade fish even in the less traditional rolls. I particularly like the more relaxed, yet authentic, atmosphere and decor, and the more traditional, less widely available menu items.

The sushi was wonderful and the Miso Ramen as well as the Shyoyu Ramen were both fantastic. We sat at the bar; watching the sushi chef masterfully craft each roll was very entertaining. The hot sake added to the calm and quant setting, and was more delicious than I had expected. Overall, I would definitely recommend.

A bit disappointed in the udon bowl. The fishall ingredient was lipservice. Take a meatball size ball, cut in half, then slice the half, maybe 7 times (very thin). I received one of those slices & was told by the server that was normal. Nice location, atmosphere, food quality and service despite the lack of value.

Authentic Japanese food. The food is of the highest quality. The staff is genuinely nice and competent. My food was absolutely delicious. They even have an area where you can take off your shoes and sit down and eat, like the Japanese actually do. Several workers wear authentic Japanese garb.

Had an interesting experience here sitting at one of the "low" tables. Katsu was yummy and they had some good quality sake. It doesnt look like much on the outside, but its pretty good. Ill have to go back more times to try other dishes, but promising first visit.

This place has the best sushi in town. Ive been to many other Japanese restaurants in town and this is the only authentic tasting (lived in Japan many years) one youll find! They have a great selection of soup bowls that are amazing. Great and friendly staff!

Best freaking sushi I have ever tasted. I wasnt a big sushi fan because I was tired of the Americanized sushi like at hibachi and the typical cliche California roll until I went here and had the sushi! Best ever. And dont even get me started on the ramen.

My favorite sushi restaurant anywhere, and I have eaten sushi around the world including Tokyo. Not fancy, just good food and friendly service. I have entertained guests from Korea and Japan here and they loved it. Best spicy tuna hand roll anywhere.
