During my hunt for 512s "Pecan Porter," an Austin resident informed me of a place that that has over 75 beers on tap. Eureka! Not only did they have the beer in which I was searching, but they had plenty of beers in the same category, and much, much more. The wall of taps is actually pretty insane. The bar is on the small side, but when I went in on a Sunday night, it was not crowded, so the vibe was home-like and cozy, and I was very comfortable. The bartender knew his stuff, and was happy to recommend beers that would cater to my palette, and did so with success. The prices were great too. The only thing that would take this bar to the next level, is if they implemented a better quality menu of sorts. I was pretty hungry when I went in, and even moreso after a got a few brews in my belly. The pizza slice I ordered just didnt do it for me. It would have been awesome to get some sort of hearty sandwich or something more fulfilling. Regardless, the bar and beers are great, so if a bigger kitchen is not a possibility with their venue/layout/license/whatever, I will still be back.

Thirsty and a little warm I headed for the Ginger Man one afternoon while I was visiting Austin. I hesitated just for a second outside the door, should I go in there as a solo female in the middle of the afternoon not knowing what the crowd would be like? I was amused to find three other solo women at the bar, and a female bartender. We were all accustomed enough to usual beer bar attendance to recognize and appreciate the funny moment. The bartender also assisted me in selecting something light and refreshing... Im usually after bigger tastes but like I said, I was more parched than usual. The selection was huge, the seating plentiful, and I wasnt hungry but would have gladly had a snack. Eventually some boys came in and ordered beers and the moment passed.

I was looking forward to going here last Saturday night with two of my guy friends. We had our first round at a different bar and then headed over. As the door man let myself and one of my guy friends in the little door-man sidekick stopped my third friend. He told him hed had enough and he wasnt going to let him in. At first we thought it was a joke, but he was dead serious. We all had the same amount to drink, I am an average sized girl, the friend who was denied access is a 6 ft tall man. He was completely fine. Not sure what set this guy off, but he lost this establishment some money as well as return customers. We will never come back to the ginger man.

If you like beer, then Ginger Man is probably your favorite bar in this part of Austin. A wall of taps and plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors makes for quite the brew-consuming environment. If youre overwhelmed by the selection, dont hesitate to ask the bartenders for a recommendation, theyre always happy to help. Monday night is pint night and you get to take home the (usually) branded glass with your purchase. Great way to expand your glassware collection. Drank a few beers and too cheap to pay for an Uber? There are many Cap Metro bus routes that stop immediately in front of the pub including the Metro Rapid.

Whether you like your beer malty or hoppy, Ginger Man has many options. This dim, casual pub with plenty of outdoor picnic table seating is a great place to order a snobby beer and talk about intellectually snobby things like correlations between the lives of, oh, I dont know, Lars von Trier, David Foster Wallace, and Pythagoras. If the typical Dirty 6th, Warehouse District, or West 6th scenes arent for you, then this bar, which looks like a cross between your rich bachelor uncles library and an Irish pub, could be your downtown haven.

My favorite bar in the world. It’s not even the beer selection that I love so much, you can get great beer lots of places. It’s the style and atmosphere. Even when it’s busy you can sit and have a conversation with people. Super relaxed, not a “scene” or a bunch of animals trying to get drunk as fast as possible. Whenever I visit Austin this is at the top of my list. The plan is to start here and hit a few other spots, and 90% of the time we never make it out until it’s time to go home.

This has consistently been one of my top 3 favorite bars in downtown Austin. Its very laid back, the staff is friendly and usually quick to serve you, and the beer selection is phenomenal! They recently moved to a new location just a block away from their old location (which is going to be torn down, sadly) in the warehouse district. Id have to say their old location was much better, mostly because it was more spacious and attractive, but the new location is still great.

This is a really cool bar that has pretty much every beer imaginable on tap. Sometimes they have beers that arent even listed in their menu, so dont be afraid to ask. The prices arent too terribly stiff, but they could always be cheaper ;-) I really enjoy the atmosphere, and wasnt really expecting it to be as nice as the original location, however, I am very impressed and recommend this bar to my out of town friends looking for a unique Austin place and good beer!

I fell in love with the Ginger Mans when I lived in Houston but the one in Austin is becoming less and less enjoyable for me. While the beer selection is hefty, they really dont offer anything "special." They tend to be price their beer slightly higher than other beer bars as well, usually by $1 or $2. I know its Downtown and in a prime spot so I get it. I like to visit every now and then but its definitely not my go-to beer bar in town.

The Ginger Man is a great bar in the style of English Pub. They have a huge draft beer selection and decent food. They also have a variety of seating arrangements; belly up to the bar, cozy booths, tables for larger groups, and even outdoor seating out back. The last time I visited, the bouncer said dogs were welcome out back (accessed through the alley). Service was friendly and easy to get a drink, even in the crush of SXSW.

With a wide selection of beers on tap, The Ginger Man is a great place to play darts and try different beers and ciders. It really is so relaxed and there are board games available and tables out back which is perfect for a nice night out. Not sure what to try? The bartenders will happily recommend a beer choice based on what you like. Give it a try when you want to go out but dont want to deal with a huge, drunk crowd downtown.

This is my favorite bar in Austin. Its very comfortable with a great music selection and great service. The staff is knowledgeable about all the drafts. There are always seasonal and limited-supply brews to keep it interesting. Occasionally there are special events, such as the Valentines Day chocolate and beer tasting, and music. I highly recommend it ... if you like beer.

The place to come for beer in Austin apparently. Overwhelming selection of any kind of beer that you could be in the mood for. If you dont know what to order, all the barkeeps are extremely helpful. Just tell them what kind of drink you like and they can find a beer for you. Wish they had a better gluten-free selection, but thats a minor gripe.
