I didnt go to UT, so I dont have quite the same history with this place as a lot of my friends even though I did stop by here a few times when I came home to visit, but every time Ive been its good times. Judging by the number of people who also have fond memories of this place, they seem to have the whole "college town bar" thing down cold, and even though Im a few years out of college I still enjoy going back. They have cheap pitchers ($8.25 during happy hour, not bad), acceptable food (a mushroom swiss burger for $6, not the best but definitely serviceable), a decent deck, and a great location. Their beer selection is nothing extraordinary, but still good for what it is, with 20 or so taps and a wider selection of bottles. They even have gluten-free beer, which was important to a friend (I cant imagine living that kind of life, cut off from so many beers, but as Donald Rumsfeld says, you go to bars with the enzymes you have, not the enzymes you want). The parking lot isnt the greatest, but its not like youre coming to a bar to sit in a parking lot. I wish wed had places like this where I went to college.

I probably spend too much time at the Crown and Anchor. Its the closest pub to my office and they have good beer, good food, and dog-friendly outdoor seating. Draft beer selection is great - local beers like Real Ale, Independence, and Live Oak, national craft beers like New Belgium and even a few German imports. The beer specials like $9.75 pitchers make the Crown a great value. Food is mostly typical pub fare - burgers, tacos, nachos, etc. I always get the veggie burger with jalapenos and cheddar cheese. It comes with some pretty good french fries, too. Probably my favorite veggie burger in town. As the Crown is next to UT campus, you can expect a good sized crowd around 5. Food and beer is ordered at the bar and the line can extend out the door pretty often. Get there before 4 if you want your pick of seating. And dont feed or turn your back on the grackles - they will steal your fries!

We decided to try this place due to reading that they have some of the best burgers in Austin... That article was vastly misleading. The beer selection is impressive. Lots of great beers on tap, bottle, and can. That is why I gave them the two stars. The good ends there... We ordered the bacon cheeseburger. The only things I could relate would be a school burger or a sonic kids burger. Thin cheap patty, that was rather bland. Bacon was almost all fat, and not cooked all the way. They did not get the orders right for either of our burgers. This honestly looks like they spend as little money on the food, and only focus on the beer. Aside from the less than mediocre food, we could not sit outside due to all the cigarette smokers. What happened to no smoking near doors? That was honestly the worst part - being forced to breath in that poison justvto get in or out.

Neighborly conversation is the pastime here, made more enjoyable by the wide array of affordable alcohol and food. This is no place for 6th Street debauchery. The darts are free and the pool is cheap. When it is nice outside, outdoor seating is a must. Bring your [nice] dog. Grab a pitcher and a burger and fries for less than $15. The most difficult decision you’ll have to make is which beer to choose. You can pick from a global selection (categorized by country) or go with one of several local brews (Live Oak is always on tap). The Crown and Anchor is a reflection of why Austin is a great place to live. Kickback and relax . . .

Its just a quaint college beer bar with arguably one of the best quick greasy cheesies in Austin. Good patio. Packs up on weekends. No liquor license means beer flows at a fair price. Looking to grab a pitcher of suds with some buds? This is your jam. 10 dollars will get you a beer a burger and fries, does it get much better? Darts and pool are available if thats your thing (including free pool on Sundays), ample TVs means theres not a bad spot in the house to watch whoever you root for. During the day its chillville but come 5 oclock quiet seekers and the smoke sensitive would do well to look elsewhere.

I dont know what the hell the one and two star reviews are all about because in the last six years weve been going, the beer, fries and burgers have been great. Simple and to the point. No, theyre not designer burgers with pesto or Frito chili (nothing wrong with that) but a no-nonsense burger made well and served fresh. Its a college joint but without the obnoxious, bro-y atmosphere. Billiards, darts and dog friendly. The ONLY reason I give it four and not five stars is that sometimes the outside music can be a little too loud, making it necessary to have to be louder. Other than that, give it a try.

Crown and Anchor is a staple of UT Austin, especially for the engineers located on the northern border of the campus. They have a range of beers on tap and a variety of specials for pints and pitchers throughout the week. The only downside is the place can get really busy fairly early, especially during the hot summer/fall afternoons. Im also a huge fan of getting burgers + fries for lunch here. And since its less than $6 for the meal, its absolutely awesome, especially near the campus.

This place is simple, and thats why I like it. Great Beer selection. Great specials. A really nice atmosphere, and a solid outdoor patio. People are constantly drawn back to this place for one reasons or another. The food is pretty decent bar food, but the real reason people come to this place is to drink. It is mainly filled with grad students, but definitely does have a good amount of local neighborhood people.

Crown & Anchor is where I learned to drink beer (lots of beer) and play pool (lots of pool) and eat cheese fries (lots of cheese fries) (jk I already knew how to eat cheese fries). The bartenders are so friendly even if they look like they could beat you up. The beer specials here are better than any other place in the area. I have drunkenly petted the cutest dogs here. Crown forever.

i love this place! I came here twice so far. ALl that you need to know is the fact that it is like a beer garden, which essentially means cheap beer and outside seating!! I love the huge variety of tap beer, ranging from 9 to 12 dollar pitchers! Free darts!! You will love this place. I basically got a explanation of different beers, the service is flawless!

This is a pretty decent bar in the Austin area. Its mostly grad students who hang out there. Lots of outside seating, which is nice. They have a pretty nice beer selection as well. The mens restroom is a bit hard to find (its not in the main building part - its just outside). Also, a burger is about $5 and pretty delicious, so thats hard to beat.

*Burgers and Craft Beer* This is an Austin tradition. - at least I think so. It was the first place I had a beer in Austin. It has not changed that much either. The burgers are tasty and cheap. You get fries with them. They have sodas but the beer selection is really diverse. It is not fancy but it is good for what you get at a good price.
