We came across this wonderful restaurant while visiting family on the island over Thanksgiving. Just. Wow. This little place is kind of tucked away but theyve definitely done right with the space that they have. We opted to sit on the porch, even though it was mid downpour. There was something really awesome about sitting under a giant umbrella with rain dumping all round you. They really knock it out of the park with their food, too! We started with the tomato stack (when in the South...) and the pimento cheese (I may be slightly obsessed). Both were great, sharable plates that were gone in what seemed like seconds. Dinner: Dads Chicken with mac & cheese and collared greens - Holy wow. The chicken was so flavorful and cooked absolutely perfectly. The mac & cheese tasted just like homemade and the greens were superb. The Bischick with cornbread and grits - Basically just, like, an explosion of happiness. Biscuits. Gravy. Fried chicken. I mean, what more would you really like from life? Cornbread was everything dreams are made of and the grits were also perfectly done. The staff was amazingly nice and happy to offer recommendations. Definitely recommend dining here and dining on the porch, if possible. Will definitely be back on our next trip!

1st time and reviews were good. Party of four, waited over an hour to get into the restaurant for dinner. We were OK with that because food was reported to be good- top ten on Hilton Head. Waitress recommended special fish menu and followed her recommendation along with an appetizer.. Wrong, we made the mistake of ordering the appetizer because everyone that sat around us afterwards got their food and finished way before us. It took over an hour from seating and 49 minutes from the dinner order to receive our 4 meals. When they brought our food, their recommended fish special was way over cooked and dry and their signature cheesy grits with shrimp were dry, bland and the worst we have had in over two decades. To be fair the wives ordered a salad and the other ordered a sandwich and the were OK with them, but not worth the wait. My professional opinion is that the restaurant has exceeded the kitchens ability to handle large crowds at their restaurant for serving quality seafood. OBTW, the waitress knew this and made several appologies after the manager came out and told us the wait was normal for their service. OK what about the quality? Recommend that customers think twice before going at prime time dinner hours, too many other quality choices.

Went there at around 5pm on a weekday and was seated at 5:25pm. So far so good. I ordered the Creamy Crab Soup and it was decent. But it wasnt something I will remember for too long. For dinner, my wife had the shrimp and grits. Some of the shrimp were undercooked and the presentation was sloppy as the dish was served on a regular dinner plate instead of something that resembles a bowl. I had the Perloo with shrimp, sausage, rice and topped with the fish of the day (tuna). It came served at a lukewarm temperature. It was average at best. If you had the jambalaya at the Cheesecake Factory, this dish from Lowcountry backyard was not even close to that.....which tells you as much as you need to know. Maybe the summer busy season makes the service sluggish....and the food not as good as the reviews I have read here. I will not go back to try again.

The wait was about 45 mins which seems normal for this place per the reviews. The appetizers were pretty good. We waited another 30 mins after the appetizers for the entree. The main course was very disappointing. My husband had the meatloaf which was just okay. I had the Charleston Special and it was barely edible. The fish tasted like a frozen a dinner fish, the grits were fried (which wasnt good), and it came on some type of tomato sauce that taste like it came from a can. The combination of the fish, cheese grits, and tomato sauce was really bad. The mac n cheese wasnt bad. The atmosphere is nice and the kids area is good for entertaining them. The food is just waaaaaaay over hyped. I really cant see why theres such a wait. There must be a lot of taste blind people eating here.

This is a very small restaurant with a small outside (umbrella covered) space that seats in total maybe 60 people. Voted as one of the top places to get Low Country cooking, think Shrimp and Grits and low country boil and you have a spot that is going to be challenging to go to at busy times. We went at 6:00 on a Monday and were able to sit inside. The decor is rustic. The food, Shrimp and Grits and an appetizer of home made pimento cheese was delicious. My sons Chicken fried chicken over a homemade biscuit disappeared quickly. The service is friendly although we felt rushed as apps and meals passed on the path to the kitchen. If you like shrimp and grits go here. If you are looking for Low Country cooking this is the place, but you may wait.

We decided to go here for lunch after reading all of the positive Google reviews and were sorely disappointed. The staff was very friendly but slow. The food was just not good. I ordered the grouper rueben (which didnt come on rye bread for some reason). The fish was okay but oily. The side of collared greens was complete mush and had no texture at all. My girlfriend had a fried fish sandwich that was oily as well and everything on the sandwich was sweet. Sweet tartar sauce, sweet breading, and sweet pickles. It tasted more like a dessert than entree. She got the mac and cheese as her side and it was sitting in a pool of grease. Nice atmosphere for Hilton Head and off the beaten path, but not worth revisiting.

Our server, menu recommendations, drinks and food were all wonderful. Our party of 4 started with a round of moonshine cocktails, including the moonshine flight, and the crab dip appetizer. We also ordered the mushroom shrimp cobbler, seafood purloo, shrimp n grits, daufuskie feast (catch of the day was Mahi). Everyone completely cleaned their plates - could not have been any happier ... until our dessert arrived! One order of banana pudding and one key lime pie to share around the table. What a treat! We expected a wait, so we went a little later, hoping the crowd would be thinning out, and were seated upon arrival. This place is a hidden treasure and well be back!

Decent atmosphere. The staff were constantly at each others throats. Especially an older lady with short dark hair. She made it a point to roll her eyes and make extreme gestures to her coworkers showing her irritability with them. It was distracting. The food took a very long time to come out and the manager even noticed and apologized but said that our food would be amazing. The four of us were absolutely unimpressed. This place lacks seasoning and courtesy. I dont honestle know how it has so many good reviews. Theyre very misleading. If you are in search of a bland meal that you have to wait a long time for the maybe this is the place for you.

We took our daughters here on our trip (ages 3 and 5) and we all loved it! Excellent food, great service. Small place with a great atmosphere. I will say that we had a terrible time figuring out where it was, even using Google Maps to get us there. We passed the entrance three times. The sign is very small out front... as all Hilton Head signs are! But it was worth it, and Im glad we went! Crab cakes were very yummy, as was the crab dip appetizer! I had the lima beans, and the girls had their mashed potatoes.... And mmmmMmmm! And while we waited (it was a very short wait) the girls played out in the yard. Thanks for a great experience!
