All You Can Eat - With A Time Limit!!! First off let me state that I and my family have been going to Hometown Buffet for years. They food is good and they have been able to accommodate our groups from 1 to 10 people without trouble. Until recently I would have honestly given the restaurant 4-5 stars, but that has recently changed. It seems that Hometown Buffet is now more interested in moving customers through the restaurant than serving the customers. My friends and I visited the restaurant in late September and were having a good time enjoying our meal when one of the staff (Not the manager) told us that we needed to move to accommodate a large group. We thought that this was a little weird and somewhat unprofessional but we went along with it. Though we noticed that the large group did not show up while we were there, so there was no point in moving us during our meal. The next incident happened on 10/13/13. My friends and I had come in for a relaxing meal and had mostly finished. We were sitting around talking and enjoying each others company when the seating hostess came up with another group and told us that there were people waiting to be seated and they needed the table. We could not believe it and from the expressions on the other groups faces neither could they. She had basically told us we were done so we needed to LEAVE. As such, my friends and I believe that after the last two visits to Hometown Buffet we have overstayed our welcome and its time to find a new restaurant. The food it good, but the service is insulting.

Ribs are advertised. They were good, not great! Food has gone downhill. So has the "hometown" feeling. Went in for dinner and was told drinks were extra at cash register. This was news to me as I have been coming here for the better part of 19 years. Without digging through my purse, my daughters purse and my grand daughters purse for extra change I did not have the $1.99. I got a water glass. My grand daughter got a drink which she paid for and it was a diet drink and she wanted a reg. drink so she said I should drink it. I said no because I did not pay for a drink, but she reasoned it would be thrown away if I did not. So I had a couple of sips from it. The young lady at the register came over to the table and saw I had a drink in front of me. She in turned told the manager. The manager told the bus girl to come over and collect the $1.99 for the drink!! (The manager should have come and talked to me) It put her in a bad situation. We started pulling our change together and came up with the $1.99 and everyone around us saw what was going on. Our table paid $45.00 to eat and I felt this was not the way to handle this. I admit, I took a sip of pop and did not pay for it, but really, is it worth loosing a customer and everyone I tell. Needless to say I will not be back nor any member of my family. There are too many better places at the same price or less that I can go to and I will not be charged for a drink. I just have to say that I am very disappointed at how this situation was handled.

I have to say that I am mostly very happy with the staff members for they are very attentive and very polite. My only complaint is the temperature of the main dishes which is barely lukewarm at best. At breakfast I have to have the cook at the omlet bar heat my hash browns before making my over easy eggs because the potatoes are never warm let alone hot like I would like. Generally I find the food reasonably tasteful if they would only be served hot. Also dont like that idea that when fresh entrees are placed out on the buffet the server puts the warmer food on the bottom and the old food on the top of the warmer food so you would have to push away the cold to get to the barely lukewarmer entree. Better to put the older food on one side of the dish and keep the somewhat warmer food on the other side so a patron can decide whether they want a cold entree or the somewhat warmer one. I do believe the staff members work very hard trying to please the customers. Never a harsh word have I heard except from the manager one day several months ago about an incident I would rather not disclose for it would make me quite upset. Just glad that manager is no longer at the Beaverton Oregon location. New manager is very eager to please their patrons as much as he can. Thank you for the opportunity to voice my views.

This restaurant had been one of our favorites restaurants but today the buffet on Hall blvd was just so dirty. There was debris on all the carpet in the whole dining area. There was black mold on all 3 icee faucets where it comes out. There is mold and black and grey mold like around the plastic where the ice cubes comes out. The area where the milk is dirty. The restrooms also very dirty, and 2 out of 3 toilets where dirty inside and outside. The tray where the napkins are, it was just cover in dust... I told the 2 ladies about the mold in the icee machine and they just couldnt see it until I showed them.. they got mad at me and didnt even say a single word to us after telling them about the icee... my little ones and I went to use the restroom and when we came back the lady cleaned our table and even take the 2 little stuffed animals from the table to the from and left them not at the register but on the side where they stack the dirty dishes... when we came out I told her why she did it if he hadnt finish yet, but since we had our stuff removed from the table, we just left...

For the price, I think this place could do better. One thing that bugs the heck out of me is the way they overcook the fried chicken. The breading comes out so dark, and the meat comes out so dry, its like nuclear-bombed chicken! Ive complained to the staff several times and they just come out with some lame excuse like "its special breading that naturally looks dark". Right, and this magic breading makes the meat taste dry when it actually isnt? I understand that they want to avoid food poisoning from undercooked chicken, but there is a line between an inexperienced kid nuking the chicken and a professional cook making it just right! Since Im paying this much for the meal, I expect professional results. If I wanted nuked chicken, I could do that at home. Just put the chicken in the fryer, go watch a 90 minute movie, and come back, and voila, fried chicken just like at hometown buffet! Seriously, I wish they would send a mystery diner over to izzys buffet in nearby Beaverton Town Square. There is an example of chicken done right, and in a pizza joint of all places.
