Ive been eating at Sweet Tomatoes, aka Souplantation, for nearly 20 years and a decade ago wouldve given at least 4 stars. Like everywhere else, prices have gone up considerably (more than double what it cost a decade ago), and even worse the product has gone downhill. Best example is the Chinese CHICKEN Salad no longer has CHICKEN. I was told by management that they wanted more vegetarian options, that is one of the few meat based proteins that the restaurant serves it is all vegetarian options, sounds more like a lame excuse to get rid of the most expensive ingredient. Another example, they no longer make their own butter and use little packets now. They used to come around to your table and offer free chocolate chip cookies, its been years since I have seen that done. What is remaining today is 3 stars, and Im being generous out of nostalgia for the $5 lunches of yesteryear, that included chicken in the chicken salad. Its an OK choice for a healthy buffet, but a far cry from what it was in its heyday.

Food, as always was great, and I would give it 5 stars, however, I have mixed feelings about service. Its a buffet, and it is fairly clean, so in-house service is good. In my current situation that prompted me to give this store 3 stars was the difficulty of reaching a manager to explore logistics. I wanted to take my mother and grandmother to ST for Mothers day. Since both women are disabled, I wanted to do some pre-planning and ask a manager if I could reserve a table, or perhaps get my parents seated first and help them get their food. What made my review lose two stars was that I got hung up 3 times when going through their touch-tone maze, and when I attempted to talk with their catering department (the only touch-tone selection that didnt get me hung up), I explained my situation, got transferred again to their main touch-tone hell system, and got hung up when I attempted another selection from its menu.

Wonderful healthy food. Prices a bit high. If you join Club Veg, they send you coupons by email ($1 off). However, if youre a senior, theres no discount - the adult coupon price is the same as the regular senior price. They need to address this. My main issue is with the floor plan - it is extremely unworkable. You get your salad while youre in the cashier line, then you pay, then you get your drinks and the rest of your food. If you want to get seconds at the salad bar, you have to return to the front and wait in the cashier line again, which is really busy at lunch time. So be sure to get ALL the salad you want the first time through. Also, the bathrooms are placed right next to the food. Unappetizing. So if you go to the bathroom right before you leave, you have to exit past the bakery, pasta, soup, and salad sections in order to get out the front door. This is NOT good.

I have been spoiled growing up with a mom and grandma who love to cook and once were personal chefs. I did not anticipate much, but to my amazement all the ingredients were fresh, nicely chopped, sliced and diced. Everything I ate was exactly what they had advertised and the thing I thought was the least enjoyable was the soft serve ice cream. I felt it was lacking vanilla and sugar. But i still ate the whole bowl. The pasta was great, muffins pretty spot on and better than most, soup was flavorful and they had a good selection, and last but not least the salad bar has pretty much anything you could want and it was all nicely refrigerated and fresh. Kept the restaurant clean and tidy. Staff was very friendly. 5/5 not because the food was out of this world, but it beat my expectations 5 fold and also was clean and friendly.

This is one of my most favorite places. Buffet salad- soup- chili- dessert- even pizza- type of items for one reasonable price. Most everything is made in-house, from scratch. If you are Gluten intolerant, or, if you choose to be vegetarian or vegan, these things are listed on the food labels. I take my mom and her husband here on occasion. They are vegetarian and I Gluten and Dairy Free by medical necessity. If you need to know about any ingredients in anything, they happily provide this information. I love this place. But, I do wish that they listed all of the items that contain any Dairy. It would make it easier for me to be sure to avoid certain items. Thanks Sweet Tomatoes.

I would eat there any more. I found a employee working their name Penny Oral and saw her doing heroin in the back area in the kitchen. When she came out with the food, I found her dirty needle hanging off her pants pocket and their was heroin in my salad. I dont understand that they hire druggy people and that are on probation for Clackamas county. Its wrong too hire people that keep doing drugs and have them work over my food? What happens if I eat bad drugs that Penny Oral dropped in my food?? I Could die.. And the heat would be on the Manager and the company for hiring druggy people too work there. she should be fired and band from this place.

I was there a couple weeks ago and the store Manager Melissa was the best. I was there eating my meal and getting up several times during my meal, I noticed this young lady Melissa goes above and beyond to make Sweet Tomatoes a nice environment. She was very helpful with a mom needing help carrying her daughters tray, she helped at the cash register when she saw the line was getting longer. A little girl was trying to get a drink but was too short so she helped her fill her glass, Melissa was also making sure customers were enjoying their food. She was exceptional !!

Very nice salad bar. That is the only nice thing I can say about this dining experience. After getting our salad and paying for it. It took 13 minutes to seat us. REALLY! Soups were barely warm and way too sweet (tomato bisque). The breads were warm but can I have a plane dinner roll please. We waited and waited for the pasta to be put out. It took forever to get dirty dishes taken away! It was really really really NOISY. Little ones running free. All in all after paying $50+ for lunch we were full but not satisfied.

Great customer care I had gone into the one in Clackamas and was having the worst day. My wife and myself were just having one of those days. Bad weather just everything went wrong. Everyone there was so nice and happy. The manager Johnny even talked to us for a bit. He really changed my whole mood. I would definitely recomend this place. I would love to have this guy on my staff. (Thank you Johnny if you read this) we left full and happy 5 stars

They seem to be going the way of other "scarf and barf" style eating establishments. Prices keep going up and quality keeps going down. Cold, fresh and yummy salads have been replaced warm, limp, and tasteless ones. The dining area smells of stale puke. The employees are starting to look like Wal-Mart employees. Apparantly all of those price increases have not trickled down to the people that actually do the work. Funny how that works.
