We had occasion to catch an early dinner at Mikes Italian Kitchen in Knightdale recently. I am not totally crazy about restaurants in shopping centers, especially when it follows a failed pizza place. But we were pleasantly surprised by the meal and we felt we actually got to dine in Eastern Wake County, a rarity. Brothers Mike and Gino Pascarella, formerly of Italy, put together what looks like a great menu, serving authentic old world cuisine tempered with a few Anglo favorites like pizza. We started with a really fresh salad drenched in homemade ranch and the brothers are also noted for homemade Italian dressing; good stuff! We opted for our favorite, veal parmigiana, which was tasty and tender and well complimented by an original tasting sauce. I dont really care for the penne pasta but I could have had it replaced with linguini or spaghetti noodles and next time I will. The bread is homemade and very good, but you may have to ask for it hot. There was no consideration for dessert but they sounded sinful. The Pascarella Brothers seem to be serious in their intent to provide authentic, reasonably price Italian dishes and they have paid close attention to service as the wait staff is very attentive. If theres an area lacking, theres not much décor or the decoration stage of the restaurant is still in its infancy. But the food is the first consideration. I miss the days of eating in the kitchen with the boys in Raleighs Casa Nicola. But hey, forgetaboutit, the Pascarella Brothers are now in Eastern Wake and for now, Im a gonna giva dem de bizness.

Ok one of the best pizzas Ive had in quite some time. Having grown up in NYC and Jersey, this pizza tastes authentic. OMG I have to talk myself out of going in for another slice! The crust is just right - not too thin, not too thick. It is a wonderful contrast of itself - light and airy yet crispy with just the right amount of chew on the crust. The sauce reminds me of my days rollerskating down The Grand Concourse to grab a slice of pizza, it is seasoned to perfection - not too much grease to weigh it down (in NY you gotta pick up the paper plate so the grease wont drip on ya!) ROB, KUDOS TO YOU AND YOUR STAFF! GREAT PIZZA AT A GREAT PRICE! I WILL BE BACK FOR MORE! My mouth is happy!

I was very hopeful after reading some of the reviews for this place, but it looks as though that was misplaced hope... While the service seemed friendly enough, the food is mediocre at best. The pizza I ordered (at lunch time) was dried out and tasted like any other reheated pizza.nothing special at all. They threw some extra cheese on top that barely melted to hide how dried the pizza was. Do not think Ill be back any time soon....

I have been eating here since they have been open, the lunch special (2 slices and a drink) is my go to. The lasagna used to be good but has gone down hill over the past couple years, too much sauce and little cheese. Service is always good. Update: as always the service has been great. the quality of food hasnt really changed over the past year but, I have pretty much written the lasagna off.

Agree with Mark. These new owners are skimping on toppings and cheese. I use to order a pepperoni and there was 9 pepperonis per slice(one per bite). Now there is 1 or 2 per slice. Heh. Still decent but, no longer my favorite pizza place. May not seem like a big deal however, when I pay 2$ per topping; I dont want the majority of my pizza to be just cheese.

Its not THAT good people! Its not that bad. They sure as hell arent ITALIAN, thats for sure! Pizza is marginal, very doughy. Lunch specials are decent. Best thing Ive had there was the Chicken Pita. Not terrible food, much better than the crappy Subway next door. But I wouldnt go nuts for any of it. Lady behind the counter is always nice.

The Philly cheesesteak was yummy! So were the cheese sticks, its basically a cheese pizza with the sauce on the side, and it took a long time to make. Worth waiting tho. We had finished our sandwiches by the time it was ready. There were 3 of us and we all got the cheese steak. We all were pleased and wed go back again.

Had a really bad experience. First when I got home there was hair on my pizza, they replaced it, but I ordered a steak and cheese and after about 2 hours of eating i have pain in my body, think may have food poisoning. Plus the place was dirty in my opinion, meaning on the counter where sit. I will never eat there again

It gets busy.the only problem noticed customers are rude to other customers and they try to start fights with customers they not know.store management not does anything about it.a place like that elsewhere go to eat.heard other customers left for that reason.other places do have a behavior code.not this one.

Perfect for a working mans lunch. The food here is good, solid, lunch fare. Service is quick basic countertop. Their steak sandwich is perfect! Their rolls for sandwiches are the best around. And the price is right too! Do wish they had a larger sized sub roll though so I just get 2.

First time eating here and I can say my experience was nice. I was greeted placed my order and had it made quickly. I got a chicken philly sandwich, chips and a drink for $6 (and some change). The sandwich is delicious! Will have to go back and try their pizza

Italian kitchen is pretty good. I have tried the calzone and the pizza thus far. I dont believe it is full on italian, I think everyone working there is indian. But if you are craving a quick bite italian style then this is a good lunch or casual dinner spot.

This is the most excellent quick eat or dinner for the family! Either going here during lunch to grab a quick bite to eat, or having dinner it is the best. I recommend it to everyone!!! They have the BEST Philly Cheese Steak sandwich!

Food got to me in time estimated and my calzone and salad were incredibly flavorful the chefs salad from here are definitely more than some places that only throw in some iceberg and no other real veggies or meat!!
