This restaurant has been around for something over 10 years now, and yet somehow wed never tried the food. Part of the reason is the location - a rough looking, half empty strip center at the corner of High Point Road and Groometown Road - where there is very little visibility from High Point Road, and none from Groometown. We visited Sunday for lunch as a result of some very positive reviews, and a conversation with a friend who really likes the food here. Wed now understand why - the food we had from start to finish was very, very good. This is a large, colorfully decorated, somewhat dimly lit place, with a large number of booths and tables & chairs, as well as a small bar area. The service was friendly and helpful - nice since the menu is huge. The time out of the kitchen was excellent, as well. The complimentary salsa came in 2 miniature molcajete vessels, one for each of us. The salsa is fresca style, rustic with visible chunks of fresh tomato and onion, and a nice amount of cilantro, but very little heat, but still excellent. The chips were the usual ones, and good. We chose a combo of 3 Chicken Enchiladas with green sauce, rice, and refried beans ($9.90), and the Carnitas dinner with Verde Sauce ($11.95), also with rice & beans. Both entrees were excellent. The chicken in the enchiladas was tender and very flavorful, and the green sauce (which was somewhat different from the Verde Sauce - thicker, darker) was the perfect match, and the corn tortilla were tasty without overpowering the chicken taste. The Carnitas were perfectly cooked, tender, well seasoned, and had some fat marbling which added a real boost to the flavor. The pork in this dish is often too lean and over cooked, but not here. When I fix the dish at home, I look for pork (and sometimes goat) which has enough fat to add flavor, and be retained after the cooking is finished. The Verde Sauce was thin, but absolutely loaded with the sharp taste of excellent tomatillos and peppers. This is as good as version of this dish as Ive found in this area, and havent had much better anywhere in the country - the perfectly cooked pork and the sauce were the perfect match. There is much to explore on this menu, loaded with both Tex-Mex and authentic dishes, including a nice selection of street" tacos, which are $1 each Thursday nights. The quality of the food here is very close to that of our two favorite Mexican restaurants in Greensboro, very close. Oh yeah, well be back.

Greensboro is home to many Mexican restaurants, but few distinguish themselves the way El Mariachi does. The menu, for instance, is far more expansive than you’ll find elsewhere and features all-day breakfast and lengua (beef tongue) as a taco filling. The quality varies – a generous portion of huevos con chorizo hit the spot, but authentic-style tongue tacos were surprisingly bland and one diner compared her meatball soup to a canned Campbell’s offering – though the variety is commendable. Go here enough times and you’re bound to find something you like. For those who like theatricality with their food, the namesake band delivers with professionalism and poise. The mariachi combo takes requests and rotates from table to table, ensuring you won’t go deaf from an evening of sitting directly in front of the music. Servers at El Mariachi are affable and knowledgeable about food and song alike and service on the whole is swift. One diner endured a short wait after part of her order was forgotten, but we were a large group. Pricing is plenty reasonable: a filling meal can be had for under $10, though seafood dishes and house specialties run higher. El Azteca keeps the crown for best tacos in town, but if you’re looking for more than food, the High Point Road establishment is well worth your while.

My favorite Mexican place in Gboro. Super fresh salsa, chunky, not soupy. Chips are seasoned and fresh, but you can ask for unseasoned chips too. The food is very flavorful. I have tried many different items on the menu, and have enjoyed most all of them. This is NOT what I call a cookie cutter Mexican restaurant, where you see the numbered combinations that are the same at other places. They have a few hard-to-find Mexican beers that I like, and excellent margaritas. The decor is a bit rustic, definitely not upscale, but definitely better than the outside ;) (the neighborhood is, shall we say, questionable). The wait staff are ALL good, and will make suggestions to your taste. No problem getting modifications to dishes so that they are the way you want them. I always ask for either Carlos or Ivana, they are my favorites, but like I said, all are good. I try to avoid the Friday night mariachi band, as it gets a little too loud for me. If you are into that though, they are a very good band. Overall, a very good dining experience for me and my kids.

The servers are friendly and that is where they earned there one star. The food took over 45 minutes to be served and once it arrived it was flavorless. The water served has more flavor in it than the food served. Additionally the orders were incorrect and we had to wait an additional 20+ minutes for the kitchen to serve the correct meal and by that time the food was cold for several people in our group. I was very disappointed because I had read such great reviews on the food and service. I will not return to eat here again and I recommend that others who are looking for an authentic Mexican meal to avoid this place as well.

Ive heard a lot of this place so I went there last night - I wasnt too impressed with the food. They are more expensive than most Mexican restaurant here in the Triad. I ordered Chicken Mole which is very traditional Mexican dish & it was okay. Ive had better. The salsa was pretty fresh but other than that I wont be driving out of the way to go back.

For the neighborhood and shopping center, one wouldnt expect much, but Ive eaten there several times now, and its been consistently good. The menu and ambiance is typically Americanized-Mexican, but they do a better job of most at seasoning the food, and the service has been very polite and attentive. If you like "Mexican" food, its worth a shot.

I have been there 3 times already and the service is worst every time... today we had to wait an hour to get the food and guess what? the order was wrong, the waitress didnt even apologize... so we decided to stay and try to have a good time with our friends... we asked for the check and it took over 35 minutes.

My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for almost 2 years and we love the food. One of the best Mexican restaurants I have been too. We love the dollar taco nights too. The service sometimes Isent the greatest and we may wait long sometimes but the food is worth it
