The saying goes "You can pick your friends, not your family." At Enoteca Maria, your friends become your family. From the second you walk in the door, you will feel like you have been here a thousand times as the staff guide you through the wonderful wine selection and specials prepared by that nights Nonna. The food is outrageous. Absolutely order the burratta if you are a mozzarella fan. The creamy center of this delicacy will take you on a trip... plus the Enoteca has a garden that provides the freshest tomatoes (in season) to add to this delightful starter. The fresh, homemade pastas are perfectly portioned and always a crowd pleaser. The fresh bass - cooked with the pairing that the Nonna chooses that night is a great dish if you are looking for something lighter. Other favorites are the mussels in red (or white wine) sauce, the baked clams or the lamb chops. The heaping bowl of mussels and clams will make you feel like you are back in summer months, enjoying a bonfire ocean side. The desserts cant be beat. Order anything that has a Nutella component. Everything is fresh and certain to not disappoint. The best part about Enoteca Maria are the people. Enjoy a friendly conversation with the table next to you or linger at the bar after dinner and learn about whats going on in Saint George. If you are coming from another borough, its worth the trip. If you live on Staten Island, theres no excuse to not swing by and enjoy a friendly face, fabulous food and feeling like you are sitting with the family you always wish you could choose!

Just got back from Enoteca Maria. Five of us enjoyed a meal made in heaven. The Nonna of the night was Christina from Milan. The waitress explained which dishes were made by the Nonna(not everything on the menu is). Our appetizers were meatballs, mussels & clams in red sauce, baked clams, and eggplant boats stuffed with rice, mozzarella, ground beef, peas and ricotta cheese then baked in red sauce.First plate: was sweet and spicy sausage slow cooked in red sauce and mixed with rigatoni pasta or farfalle pasta in a gorgonzola cream sauce, mixed with roasted walnuts and parmigiano. Entrees ordered:Pan roasted veal cutlets topped with prosciutto and fontina cheese and served over a bed of arugula or slices of pan seared pork sausage topped with cannellini beans served over polenta with roasted peppers. Desserts ordered:Tiramisu: Ladyfingers soaked in brandy and orange citrus then layered with a mascarpone and strawberry cream and topped with strawberries,Semifreddo: Choice of almond or nutella flavored semi-frozen dessert(we had one of each),and Fundata di Cioccolata Strawberries, blueberries, brownie, biscotti served w/ a fondue of melted chocolate. We had cappuccinos and espresso. Reservations are advised..This is a great place for couples, friends, and families with well behaved children. The interior is small,so you might get friendly with those at the next table..

You know: when we italians travel abroad, we try to avoid to eat at italian restaurants. We use to say that you cant eat better italian than in Italy. It is true, but I must honestly admit that, having lunch at Enoteca back in april 2009 was a surprising experience. Surprising because theres nothing better than being persuaded youre wrong when youre actually wrong. Eating at the Enoteca was almost exactly as eating at a *real* italian trattoria. The entrees were perfect (we had cooked and fresh vegetables) and, what maybe struck me most was the quality of the glorious burrata. You should know that having a good and fresh burrata isnt easy at all, because it comes from Campania region and it has to be *really* fresh. Damn: it was like this, a perfectly fresh burrata. Then we had pasta and meat. Im sorry I couldnt remind perfectly what they were, but we were having such good wines that I felt a little numb. Forgive me, for my english as well. To be honest I have to say that I was actually offered this lunch by a very good friend of mine, so I dont really know how much it was. The owner is a very nice and friendly guy and his idea to have new nonnas cooking day after day could lead to great cousine or to, so to say, a non-linear output. Was I enough hard to understand?

As an Italian living in New York for a bit over a year, I am grateful and enthusiastic to have found this gem of authentic Italian cooking even if in such an unexpected place! Referring to the presence of organ meats in the menu, the truth is that Italian traditional cooking used them a lot. Now we can eat them only in gourmet restaurants where well-experienced cooks are able to prepare them correctly and the owner has the courage to offer them to a public that is not used to these delicacies. The wine list is impressive, and you cannot make a bad choice. I have been at Enoteca five times. The first time I complained for the volume of the music (the spectrum of music is fantastic, the volume was too high), second time was better and the last three times it was really enjoyable. Talked to the owner, he adjusted to his customers’ decibel tolerance… I recommend this place to all those who want authentic Italian food and good wine & music in a contemporary designed setting.

I had made reservations for dinner at Enoteca before a show at the St George theater back in December of 2007. Coming from Long Island we were almost there and relaized we did not have our tickets. Had to go all the way home and in doing so needed to give up our reservation. However, miraculously we hit NO traffic and found ourselves able to make our reservation after all, I called back but they had already filled them....the woman who answered was so sorry and took my cell number just in case she was able to get us back in. Sure enough, as we pulled into the parking lot across the street, ready to find something else, she called and told me they could fit us in! The dinner was wonderful, truly like eating regional home cooking, and all there who knew the story came over to talk and by the time we left for the show it was like we were family. Wish it was closer so we could enjoy a wonderful Nonna meal more often. If you live nearby...GO!

After reading other reviews I didnt have high expectations, but wanted to give it a try anyway. Went there without a reservation, got a table in the very end (the restaurant was half empty, but fine, we did not book). Ordered two dishes (see pic) both around 23$, waiter told us he would bring also kind of an appetizer. We never saw that appetizer on our table (but very well on the tables of others). The food wasnt terrible, but very low quality. The paella (it was from nonna from Lima) was completely overcooked and garnished with a very cheap side salad. The prices are a shame for what they serve. On the menu they unkindly ask people to tip the servers and they take cash only, to keep the prices low. Dear owner think about it, maybe there is something wrong with your concept and not with the people eating there, if you have to remind them to tip. I felt completely fooled and regretted spending my money there.

My husband, children and our friends all agree that Enoteca Maria is by far the most satisfying restaurant we have ever had the privilege to dine in. Im talking about old school Italian cooking, fresh healthy ingredients lovingly prepared by the most talented Grandmas. Each day they offer you the most magnificent dishes from many different provenances of Italy. The wine selection is larger than most restaurants in the surrounding Boroughs. If we are not sure which wine to choose with each course the owner is extremely helpful and has also allowed us to sample the wine before purchasing it. Between the spirits and the food these combined flavors say "Italy" with every bite!!! My Husband has out of town clients that ask him to make dinner reservations for Enoteca Maria when ever they are in town. Go, try and enjoy! The Corsis Love Enoteca Maria!
