Hip Diner This is a cool little diner that is obviously run by young and young-at-heart people who are interested in providing very tasty and interesting diner food. For instance on the breakfast menu you could order sweet potato hash or you could choose from an entire page of different burrito or bowl mixes. I checked out the lunch part and darned if they do not have a gluten-free breading and so several people in my family can have chicken strips or fish and chips or even onion rings. We had biscuits and gravy with eggs over medium. I had the pepper bacon which was superb and the hubster had the sausage. He reported it good but not the best hes had. The layout of the place is a straight shot Diner with the counter area and seats removed. That area is now a wait station that allows the friendly staff a place to pop out of to refresh whatever you need to have refreshed and to make sure youre happy . Great service . This is a trendy, clean and family friendly Diner. It looks to be fairly accessible for those who use assistance Mobility assistance. There are two gender-neutral bathrooms which give plenty of room, however the sinks are a bit high for someone in a wheelchair to be able to reach to wash their hands. I give this place a two thumbs up for great coffee, great service, great food and great atmosphere. It is definitely our go-to spot in Salem for breakfast now.

Decided on breakfast at the sassy onion, just to try out somewhere other than Word of Mouth, though I knew that two of the women who work there were heavy smokers,as I once had the pleasure of getting stuck walking behind them. The place is grimy, smells of stale cigarettes and body odor ~no food or cooking smells. Nothing sassy about the filthy carpet or dusty plastic pointsetta in the vases (over a month after Christmas) The famed french toast? Styrofoam, cold, with a crust, completely dry in the center. The corned beef hash? a few bits of corned beef strewn over frozen shredded hash browns, and with a bunch of mushroom pieces along one side, making me think they used the same spoon to dish out many items. Glad Im not allergic. The garlic hollandaise? more like a curdled yellow pudding, not a sauce, actually stood up in the little side dish it arrived in. The sourdough toast? it arrives cold, soaked in a yellow oil or butter substitute of some sort, inedible though highly recommended by our waitress. We left well over half of our meals uneaten. But more than anything, it was that odor of old butts and grime that will make me never step foot in that place again, unless they get Gorden Ramsay in to revamp the entire not at all sassy Sassy Onion.

Quick and friendly service. Food was ok....bland....I got a Sassy onion burger with no sauce (as did my grandma). Im an anti-sauce person, it arrived with mayo so i had to send it back. They replaced the top bun and avocado, but there was mayo i had to wipe off on the lettuce. The burger was ok, not very flavorful, and greasy. The peppered bacon was very good. Onion rings were ok, their hand breading was practically falling off of the onion and was a very thin coating. My mom had the chicken Bento bowl, the veggies were very fresh tasting. The teriyaki sauce is ok, not as good as Love Loves teriyaki. The sweet potato fries were delicious. The sauce that came alongside it... not so much. The food looked pretty plated ! Maybe it was an off day for the cook?

My food was horrible. Heard lots about it and i go try it and it was a big disappointment. I had the classic canadian bacon benedic. My eggs was over cook, my english muffin was so hard to cut and it was thin and over cooked and painful to chew. Yes it was that hard. And my waitress didnt acknowledge us untill it was time for the check. I paid over 40.00 even after telling her about my food. They spend a long time deciding about my food. Management didnt even come out to apologize for the food or experience. I love my benedic and would always eat it all, but im never going here again! Horrible experience! If i pay alot for my food i at least expect it to be good!

This trendy breakfast joint has a wide array of delicious French Toasts, as well as pancakes, omelettes, and breakfast skillets. Tragically, waffles are not in the menu. The French toast is crunchy and sweet (particularly the cinnamon roll French Toast). The servings are large. The skillets may optionally be served as burritos. The meat lovers burrito is large, flavorful and pleasant, but ideally would have something spicy added to it (the salsa isnt spicy in the least). The coffee tasted like a French Roast, which is too dark a roast for breakfast, in my opinion, since roasting removes caffeine. The Marionberry syrup rocks my socks.

This place is very busy, couple of mile from I-5 in Salem, Oregon. You wont be able to eat all in an order from eggs, to breakfast meats, to pancakes, to waffles. The servings are large and delicious. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. You can get cocktails with your breakfast.Good ambience and clean. Reasonably fast service. Free Parking...... All at very moderate price. Ill go back to this place for breackfast or lucnch anytime Im in this area. Must try item "Lamb Benedict"

We were just passing through Salem on our way to Portland and felt like a good breakfast. After another popular place was too packed, we decided to try The Sassy Onion. My husband and I ordered the corned beef hash and the Cinnamon Roll French toast. Our sons ordered the banana bread French toast and a sourdough turkey club. We all loved our meals. Corned beef hash was the best weve ever tasted. Great sized portions. So happy we decided to stop here to eat!

Was driving from Eugene to Portland, found the The Sassy Onion Grill and stopped for breakfast and a bloody mary. Loved the food (i had the sweet potato hash/husband had the mess), very clean, good service, huge and varied menu, manager stopped to talk. My only complaint was the acoustics...it is a touch loud. If someone laughed in the back it sounded as if they were right beside you. But i would say it is totally worth it.

Great diner breakfast. When Word of Mouth was too busy, we tried Sassy Onion for the first time. It was also busy, but theres lots of seating and it was worth the wait. I tried the cinnamon roll french toast. It was delicious! It was literally a slice of a cinnamon roll, dipped in batter, dipped in cornflakes, cooked, and smothered in cream cheese frosting. My mouth is watering thinking about it...

Solid lunch spot. Good food, great staff. What keeps me going back though is how the owner/managemt handled the situation with staff after a kitchen fire shut them down for an extended amout of time. Rather than let staff go and rehire when thay were back up am running, they paid staff to work on volunteer projects in the community. Now THAT I want to support!

Open, clean, and surprisingly inviting atmosphere. Prompt, courteous, and noninvasive service. Better than average house coffee (pretty robust). Got the Sassy Blintz + eggs and bacon. Their peppered bacon is thick and well seasoned. The central piece, the French toast, is pretty good. Make use of their Marionberry syrup. Its what makes the whole thing work. :-)
