Did these other people eat at the same Brownstone Diner that I went to? Theres no way, because my wife and I were in North Jersey for a wedding last night and, after seeing this place on Food Networks "Diners Drive-Ins and Dives," decided to make a side trip to Jersey City for breakfast. There were about 10 people in line outside as well as another 10 or so inside waiting for a table, but it only took about 15 minutes to get a table. The menu is insanely big, but we didnt need to go much further than the first page with about 30 different kinds of pancakes. I opted for the black forest pancakes and my wife went with the berry sour pancakes. Our waitress was very friendly and, even with a packed restaurant, our order was on the table in about 10 minutes. My cakes were still steaming as my fork easily cut through the stack, topped with chocolate chips, cherry sauce and a ton of small cherries. Wow... what a great combination and whatever they put in the pancake mix gives them a unique flavor I havent tasted anywhere else. My wife and I both wished we werent so full from the wedding the night before because this is definitely a place you need to go to on an empty stomach. Between the pancakes and our sides of bacon (for her) and pork sausage (for me), we were stuffed by the time we were half-way through our meal. Id recommend this place to anyone who asks and am glad we drove a little out of our way to give it a try. And, apparently Im not the only one, as they turned over 50+ tables in the 40 minutes we were there and the line was still out the door when we left... wow...

If youre coming for a weekend brunch, dont even think about parking in their tiny parking lot. Skip that headaches and just look for street parking. My boyfriend and I came in on a Saturday at around noon and the wait was about 25 minutes. It didnt seem like we waited that full time though. It was pretty packed when we arrived but by the time we were seated, the crowd had already started thinning out. To start, we ordered the fresh fruit pancakes, which comes topped with blueberries and strawberries. Im not usually a huge pancake fan but I figured I should try them if its in the name of the restaurant. They were pretty good! Could have been a little fluffier but overall, I enjoyed it. By the time we finished that, I was almost too full to eat the chicken and waffles I ordered. This came drizzled with honey. The waffle was nice and toasty. The chicken was not that great. It was perfectly fried on the outside, but the inside was dry. I probably wouldnt order this ever again. He ordered some pancake wrap. It was Guy Fieris buffalo chicken, or something along those lines. Anytime you see Guy Fieris name associated with a dish, you can gage that it will probably be disgusting and I thought it was. It was pretty much just buffalo chicken tenders, an obscene amount of cheese, and canned roasted peppers, all wrapped in a giant pancake. Moral of the story - just stay away from any food anywhere with Guys name attached to it. Wouldnt mind coming back for a Philly (Im sure thats not what theyre known for but I have a slight obsession with phillies) and some more pancakes!

I have driven by this place a hundred times and never gave it a second thought. However, one day, I finally ate here with some coworkers for breakfast. Food: 5/5 There are good pancakes, and then there are great pancakes. Brownstone serves perfect pancakes. They really are in a league of their own. You often see the word "homemade" thrown around a lot on restaurant menus, but very little hardly ever measure up. Brownstones pancakes taste homemade in every way. Their eggs and sausage are also very well prepared and can hold their own with the best diners Ive been to. Price: 4/5 This is one of those few places where you enjoy your meal so much, you dont care about the cost. You will find pretty standard NJ diner pricing here, but the quality of food you get for that money is more than worthy of that price tag. Environment: 3/5 Jersey City restaurants are always tight on parking and this place is no different. They have a parking lot, but it fills up pretty quick during peak hours. The interior is kept clean, but all the furniture and decor is pretty plain. The crowd is a very mixed demographic. Overall, theres nothing that really sets them apart from the countless other diners in this category. Service: 4/5 The staff are very nice and attentive. The food we ordered came out super quick and as described. Theres not really much more you can ask for in a diner. I can definitely see why this establishment was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives. Their food is top notch and I will be back for more in the future.

Disgusted with the service here. Came in with my good friend the waitress took us to a table in the middle aisle. We declined to sit there. She then sat us to the right of the restaurant at a booth- A much better seat in the restaurant. The couple in line behind us was seated next to us. She didnt offer them the seat in aisle. (red flag) She then brings us our menus. And goes to the couple that was sat after us and ask them would they like water. She never asked if we wanted water and we were sat first. (red flag) The waitress then proceededs to place the utensils on the table and walks away. The last straw was when she went to the couple that was sat after us to take there order first.... That was it... Never will I eat here. Poor service. Idk if it was done intentionally or not. But I will never go back to to find out.

Hands down the best diner in Jersey. They have SO many choices of pancakes, waffles, omelettes, cappuccinos, mixed drinks...oh my gosh!!! Id eat here everyday but I know Id get fat for sure. The waitress Theresa is super nice!! Ask for her when you go!! Besides Toms diner in Brooklyn, New York, this is the best diner in the Tri-State area!! You have to try it. Be sure to go early on Sundays because they get packed. They have a parking lot with free parking, which is great. Ive had the Show Stopper Pancakes as well as the Turkey Sausage and cheese omelette with grits and toast so far. I will be back!!! The last Sunday I went, I couldnt order a mixed drink because it wasnt 12 noon yet. They have drinks make with Liquers like Godiva. I loved the diner so much, I bought their T-shirt!! GO TO BROWNSTONE!!!

With the new, smaller menu, this place has gone downhill in a hurry. I ordered the fish and chips and got three straight-from-the-freezer fish patties that were still cold in the middle. I sent it back and just asked for a burger, medium-rare. The burger was dark and dry, cooked several stages beyond well done. Both dishes were served with regular french fries, which both times were under-cooked, leaving them greasy and soggy. Our waitress was fantastic as the service here is always wonderful. Having been a regular for many years, I asked if Bobby was available and was told hed come over to the table. However, the guy who showed up wasnt Bobby. I used to love this place and recommended it to anyone who would listen, but now I would say to avoid it for anything other than breakfast.
