Excellent service, great selection of coffee, establishment does not serve or allow food. I have made the rounds to the few roasters in the metro area, this place is by far the best. There is not the traditional pretentious feel that comes from upscale coffee shops. Sitting at the coffee bar talking with my barista about flavors and brewing methods was actually enjoyable. The best part: unlike other places, the people that work here actually love coffee and enjoy talking about it with you. I went through a french press and a few espresso shots based off my baristas favorites before leaving with a half pound of beans and a strong desire to return. I can say that this is a place that is not pure about there methods about brewing coffee. That however doesnt really hurt my feelings towards them, because it makes the whole situation less intimidating. Also, I was assured that all beans are rotated on a two-three week basis, therefore everything is in its peak freshness. Off peak beans are donated. I strongly recommend giving this place a try, you wont be disappointed.

There is a lot of love for this place that I just cant understand. Every roast Ive ever received tastes the same: burnt. When I asked for a lighter roast—describing some of the newer, lighter roasting techniques as being preferred—I was told that this "under roasted" technique was immature and was a trend that would soon die out. Apparently flavor is a trend. Environment-wise, the ordering experience is clunky. Most times, I have to order, and then wait until my drink is prepared in order to pay. Meaning: Order, continue to stand awkwardly at the register while other orders are taken. Wait for orders to be finished. Then wait for someone to come to the register and figure out whos in line to pay. Why not just take my money right after I order? This way I can grab my drink and GO when its done. That said, I have to say that everyone here seems passionate and knowledgable within their practice. You wont have an unfriendly experience. Youll just have a dark, burnt-tasting one. So, points for consistency.

I knew NOTHING about REAL coffee until i visited this place when they 1st opened years ago. Frank(owner) walked me through the back, showed me the green beans, explained the roaster(which you can see constantly working away- enclosed in a room to your left as you walk in). Etc.. I drive over 15 miles from Auburn Hills to Ferndale to get my beans(though Chazzano beans can be purchased at Whole Foods a mile from my house.. Have you EVER?! recieved/purchased a bag of whole beans that is SO FRESHLY roasted that.. The bag is still WARM? Have you ever tasted high-end coffee so good that sugar and cream is an insult to add it in? This is the place.. There are many, many other new, fancy, and comparable roasters in metro Detroit.. Like Desert Oasis & Roasting Plant.. Both places are also Amazing and have their strengths.. Chazzano keeps it simple and keeps roasting only the freshest, organic, fair trade beans Ive ever had... Small place, weird hours(sorta) and still the best roaster..

I have been to Chazzano 3 times now and have never been disappointed. The coffee is great and the owner is absolutely lovely. He has a commitment to good fresh coffee. I found out today that they do not keep any coffee beans more then 3 weeks because they at this point will start to lose flavor. What he does with the coffee after this though is great! He donates it to local shelters and charitable organizations. As the cold season comes upon us I have to say this is greatly appreciated. I appreciate everything this shop does from making quality coffee to the donations from a philanthropic stand point. So if you want a fresh cup of coffee that is great with out anything added stop by Chazzanos!

After seeing a video on YouTube of Turkish coffee, I had an urge to try it. Chazzanos advertised that they could make it and we traveled about 35 minutes to try. It turned out to be a great experience and we had such a great time with it that we elected to go for the vacuum syphon process as well and it was astoundingly good. Not only was the atmoshphere great, the tableside presentation was awesome. Lots of blends to try, easy going staff when it comes to questions and just a great vibe from everyone that was there. (We had four adults and two children, and a couple of random strangers offered to swap tables with us.) A great time was had by all, and I really recommend them.

Awesome place. As a coffee snob I had been searching for a place like this since I moved to Michigan 4 years ago. They have a to-die-for Sumatra, do all their roasting in house, have mail order and delivery service, and an extensive coffee bar with knowledgeable staff! Expect to wait a little longer than at your local mermaid coffee shop, even if you are just picking up beans, because the small size place can easily get overwhelmed with a crowd. They have a great little lounge/bar, and you get a discount if you bring your bags back to be refilled.

These guys know how to roast coffee. We moved from NJ a few months back and missed our favorite local roaster....until we found Chazzano! Theyve always treated me very well, and they know what theyre doing. I buy in bulk and brew at home, but the shop is always pleasantly crowded with a quiet clientele that obviously also enjoy what they do. (and re. previous posts, I respect other opinions, but if you think the Brazilian or Nicaraguan roasts taste burnt, then youd probably say the same for cream cheese.)

Ive had the coffee a few times and maybe one just gotten it wrong, but Im not impressed with the roasts. I like dark, chocolatey roasts on the nutty side. I ordered a Sumatra pourover and it didnt have a full bodied flavor. Another time I ordered a latte and the espresso didnt cut through the milk strongly. (Yes, Im fully aware the owner despises people like me who dare put cream in their coffee.) Ive had some great coffee but this one didnt resonate with me given the cult following.

Do you like coffee? Do you like talking about coffee? Do you like someone to talk to you about coffee? While youre drinking coffee? Then go to Chazzano! Each time Ive visited, I left feeling like i just earned 2 college credits in Coffee Appreciation. This place roasts their own beans, and can prepare your coffee just about any way known to man. Theyll even take one variety and brew it using all the methods so you can taste the difference! Simply the best.

This is not the place for a quick cup of coffee, but is definitely worth sitting down and savoring a cup. Everyone there knows their coffee, the espresso was the best I think I had ever had. So huge thumbs up. The down side... I really couldnt shake that hipster feel. It almost felt like I stepped into an episode of Portlandia. I will have to go back and have another experience. All around: AWESOME coffee but a little too hipster.

Never loved an establishment more. I come here every Sunday and it feels like home. The atmosphere is excellent, the coffee is exceptional, and the staff are not only polite, but helpful... Ive actually learned a lot about coffee just by coming here! I highly recommend this place, and would call it the best coffee shop around without hesitation.
