I wrote a review folks, where did it go? Help again!! Did I mention how wonderful all the waiters are there? Elisajo (oh my gosh, hes gonna be mad I spelled his name wrong) and Christian, and the owner, Socorro, she is the BEST IN THE WEST people and her son and EVERYONE in there. You just have to try it. My finances have taken a turn for the worse but up until about 2-3 yrs ago I really was in there at least 3-4 times/week. The prices are so much lower than these little "run of the mill" places, the walk in and run stuff that actually costs more and doesnt even taste as good. Youll see, just go and on a warm sunny night, sit outside and eat. Oh, in case, they make MEAN Margaritas and more, sip, sip, sip...

The food is always great, except their rice isnt much like traditional mexican style and tends to be salty. Check out their steak fries appetizer to share - I get it for an entree sometimes too! The beans are really good and they make tortillas on site! They can have difficulty in timing the serving of a full table appropriately, meaning at least one dish will take several minutes to arrive or the sizzle starts to fade on your fajitas waiting for their yummy tortillas. Food quality makes up for it most of the time. If waiting isnt for you, try them Sundays for a buffet brunch thats has plenty of choices to satisfy anyone in your group. Staff is always polite and the bathrooms clean.

Personal amable.

Should have never came back to the this place, WORST SERVICE EVER IN ALAMEDA! This place really does suck, sat down was given chips no salsa had to ask for it, ordered a chicken salad and a draft beer, 15 minutes later beer finally comes after I watched it sit at the bar for 10. When it finally arrives I was told it was going to be another 20 minutes for my food, 35 minutes for a salad and no its not busy, half the staff are actually sitting at the bar, absolutely just the worst service in all Alameda, dont come here!

Theres a better Mexican restaurant off park st their food has more heat to it. So cal mexican food is definitely way different from Nor cal mexican food. This place definitely lacks flavor and heat. I suggest when you order your food to hold the nasty pico de gallo or is it pico cream? Why is orange? Why does this wierd creamy pico De gallo tastes like it has a earthy flavor like nutmeg.. Does it orginate from a certain region of Mexico.

My family goes on a long walks & then double back for a great brunch or lunch before heading home. Everybody is always welcoming and the food is consistently yummy! I also work at public school in Oakland & we have often had our winter faculty parties in their lovely upstairs banquet room. Its nice, clean & private. The staff just brings the food up to you & their is a bar & bartender for a modest fee. EXCELLENT!!!!!

Food is okay- Prices are inflated and costly, not the best value- The staff are rude- Ive been there for breakfast- basically had to beg for an refill of coffee- When i went there to sit at the bar- I was ignored... I waited 5 minutes before i was even acknowledged!!! If you order food for carry-out beware!! They got my order wrong multiple times. ***note*** The steak they use is fatty and inedible sometimes-

This is the best Mexican food I have ever had. We come here all the time even though we live near Park street where I can walk out my door to several Mexican and other restaurants. There was other Mexican food in my life that I thought was good until now, and now it all seems like drivel in comparison! The carnitas are the best fyi. Huge portions, friendly service, good prices for what you get, and great ambiance.

As a huge lover of Mexican food Ive made a point of going to every Mexican restaurant I can find. This one was a HUGE disappointment. The service was awful. It wasnt a busy day and yet it took them forever to even take our order, and then it took a crazy long time to get our food, and THEN it took forever to get our check. Was the food worth that wait? Nope. It was very mediocre. Never went back there again.

First off, Im prejudiced because I miss Juanitas! Where, oh where, can I find a reliable enchiladas Verde one chicken one cheese? It might be me, but I also cant find an edible pollo mole. I am used to mole being mild and slightly sweet. This was OK. Too spicy, but not tongue-blistering like the Acapulco. Service was fine and they were very, very busy. I might try again. Not bad, very reasonable prices.

Came here for dinner w 3 small kids and only 1server working. Sat for 10min w no one bringing drinks or anything even though she was told multiple times by other wait staff. When we asked for a drink she simply shrugged and said she had someone else to help. We were forced to leave after 15min without getting anything! Dont go here or support this horrible business!

Otaez has become our favorite Mexican place. Its nothing fancy but the food is consistently delicious. I usually order the fish tacos, fish burrito or the carnitas plate. The chile verde is also excellent. My wife loves the breakfast plates like the huevos con chorizo y papas. This place opens early for breakfast, and Alameda always needs more breakfast places.

Expensive. Food was below par. Aguas frescas was really good. So were the chips. But the salsa, steak, beans, and guacamole were pretty flavorless. The deep fried ice cream looked beautiful but had a leathery exterior. The flan was bitter. Overall very disappointed. I got Mexican food like this back when I lived in PA. Thats saying something.

All at a very reasonable price walk out of the place extremely well satisfied and looking forward to next time in that neighborhood have lunch or dinner there.

The food is ok but the drinks are great! The bartenders are amazingly friendly and open to trying new mixes. Have been here twice and both times the food was ok, if youre just looking for cheap mexican food I would recommend Calafia down the street but this place is THE place to go for drinks on this side of the island.
