First time diner today(6/5/15) first time in Boston at that. Me and my girlfriend went here for dinner, and I have to say we are both servers coming from 4 star restaurants in CT and our experience was terrible. First walking in we were welcomed by the hostesses. We were early and went to the bar to have a drink, the bar lounge area was amazing and bartenders were nice. She had the Shanghai sangria cocktail which was outstanding. I had the basic crown and sprite which was portioned well. After I got the text saying our table was ready, we still waited 10min to sit down. After finally sitting down our server, whom didnt mention his name, took a few minutes to greet us but he seemed like he had a full section. After greeting us and giving us WELL over a few minutes to look over the menu there was still confusion. I ordered the shrimp tempura and beef skewers to start. I got the beef skewers and steam buns, pulled the server aside and since the food hit the table it was considered dead so it was on the house which we thought was nice, told him I still wanted the shrimp tempura. When my girlfriends dinner(teriyaki steak noodles) came out my shrimp did but not the dinner I ordered( house special duck fried rice) the server never came around to check on us at all, while I saw him multiple times standing around talking to co-workers. I physically turned my body multiple times to try and get his attention but he never came by only until I ate my girlfriends leftovers and pushed the plate to the side. I was so fed up with the service I asked for the bill which was speedy enough to come to me and I left a note mentioning how there was a miscommunication and how I never got my dinner. I left a well over 20% in tip because I did not want to have him get me change or else I would have stiffed the server. All in all the food we actually got was top notcth. This one server whos face Ill never forget service was terrible. Atmosphere was amazing, the decore, design and overall layout of the restaurant was beautiful. I will be returning on my next trip to Boston, hopefully I have better service.

I didnt have an interest in going to Red Lantern since Ive heard a ton of poor reviews from my friends about the food, but some of my friends had a groupon deal so I decided to tag along with them. I didnt have very high expectations for this place and unsurprisingly they didnt exceed any preconceived notions. We arrived at 7:25 for our 7:30 reservation only to be seated at 7:50 at a table that the hostess knew had a slight issue (the AC above was dripping down onto our seats, tables, and floor. They said it was from the humidity, but Ive been to a ton of restaurants in humid areas and this shouldnt happen. We then requested to move, which the host staff wasnt happy about, and they sat us at a 6/7 person round table for 4 people - which is uncomfortable and awkward because how do you sit and eat and socialize at a table so big with so few people (surprise, you dont). We asked to move to a 4-top right next to table we were at and they said no, that table was specifically reserved for a group that was arriving soon...we ended up staying at our table, the service was the slowest Ive ever had in my life (including 3 Michelin Star restaurants that have tasting menus). It took us about an hour from when we sat down to receive our food and drinks, then another hour to receive the rest of our food and second round of drinks and then over 30mins for them to charge our credit cards!!! The only thing they comped was a measly $10 appetizer...Needless to say I wont be going back. The food is good, good portions, but it is over priced, wait staff is rude and excruciatingly slow. Lucky for me I was with great friends so spending 2.5 hours with them is fun regardless of the situations.

Red Lantern has a great atmosphere and is a fun place to come with friends for a special event. The prices are on the high side, however the portions are generous. Ive been twice and each time I ordered different entrees and appetizers and have been very happy with everything. My biggest complaint is the poor service. I waited 15 minutes past my reservation time, only to be sat at a table with a dripping A/C unit above it. The server seemed to know this was an issue and sat us anyway. We requested a move and were placed at table designed for a party twice our size, despite other vacant tables. We asked to move to a more intimate table once again and were told that another party had a reservation and they would get priority (despite the fact that we had a reservation 30 minutes prior, and had already been inconvenienced by water dripping on us). It took 2.5 hours to eat our meal, way too much waiting. The service seemed very disjointed, and there seemed to be a lack of communication. It took about 30 minutes to get the bill, and have our waitress process our payment. Dont think Ill return here any time soon. Food is great, service is lousy.

You walk in and say "Wow who designed this place and can I get their number?" You immediately realize youre going to have an amazing eating experience. You are handed a well balanced menu with plenty of options. My gf liked the shrimp toast but I wasnt a fan. I loved the ronin rolls. I also had yellowtail sashimi and one order of bbq eel nigari. Excellent fish. You get three pieces of sashimi for under $10 which is amazing and I hope they never change that. We ordered a drink boat at the advice of the server, but it tasted so alcoholic it was just too much. She took it back and served us cocktails instead which are much better, but still not amazing. They didnt have the best bartender because my cocktail still tasted a bit too strong. I give this five stars for the atmosphere, interior design, service, and excellent cuts of fish. Pro tip: Order cocktails first and let them get to your table before ordering food. The food comes out quick and you may get it before your drinks.

We came in for a dinner before theatre show. Location is really convenient being close to parking and to the performance. However, the waitress was arguing with us that that the tea is hot enough, when it was not, from the customers perspective, and they do not even steep green tea, which would be expected from an Asian restaurant. The food was not great (except KALBI BEEF SKEWERS). We had AVOCADO SALAD, and WHITE MISO SOUP. The scallion pancakes were crispy, which means too dry, for our taste.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Boston. The moment you walk through those doors, you are completely transported. Everything from the open kitchen concept, the high ceilings, sexy ambience, the music, drinks, and oh the food. A must-try on my list is the crunchy rolls- do yourself a favor and order this on your next visit! I visit this place frequently enough to say that the waitstaff is always wonderful and very attentive. From the hosts, the servers, and the bartenders. Love it!!!

Been going to various Chinese restaurants across the country, from Miami Mr. Chow to countless west coast Chinese joints. Red lantern far surpasses all of them. In terms of quality of the food the quality of the preparation and the quality of the ingredients. THEY ARE ALL TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN AT RED LANTERN! My favorite is the hot rock with the salmon in the beef in that sauce they give you was beyond words. My second favorite is the house fried rice with the Wiyagu beef in the great shrimp!
