Bristol is a quintessential business-lunch venue. Staff is always well-versed on specials and the freshest catches. Try the bowl of lobster of bisque for memorable presentation of soup poured at your table, from a gleaming pot, over a generous helping of chopped lobster. Even jaded East-coast visitors who "have it or have seen it all" in terms of seafood will be impressed. Special affairs can be arranged and will be handled with aplomb in a sequestered, private area or, for smaller groups, nestled in semi-private niches or alcoves. Try stepping out away from routine (yet expertly and creatively prepared) catches of salmon, tuna, seabass and the like, and wander among the trout and other freshwater offerings to sample the dishes with truly unique flair. Likewise, sample easy-to-dimiss sides, such as Brussels sprouts, which are chopped and have a hint of crunchiness that must come from grilling. Even my mother, wearing sneakers in her outdated, minimalist kitchen can whip up a tasty batch of asparasgus sauteed in glaze of premium store-prepared sauce. Fortunately, moms everywhere gave up boiling Brussels sprouts and unseasoned re potatoes ages ago, making Bristol the place to find out that oft-forgotten sides can be magically scrumptious. Guilt-free indulgence in an extra crab cake (or two) at the start, which are baked rather than pressed into oil, should be mandatory for those who relish intact lumps of sweet backfin. Baking requires fewer fillers - a blessing to those who know the best part of crab cake is the crab, but an annoyance to those who crave lots of brown crunch in every mouthful. For those who need a fix of greasy brown, McDonalds now serves hash browns all day. I salute Bristol for having the courage to empasize pure delicious over fried bread crumbs.

Lets get this in perspective first...I know this is a Zagat rated restaurant with a very strong local following. That said, the food wasnt bad, it just was nowhere near great, nor the "best brunch in KC" as I have heard. For the prices Bristol charges, the value of quality of food to cost is way out of whack. Quite frankly there are a few upscale chains that are much better and worth the expense. The sea bass was very uninspired, the crab cakes were quite honestly not good at all and the lobster bisque was very sub-par. The unforgivable for me was the very average steak. Kansas City is a steak town first, long before BBQ became our claim to fame, KC was and always is a steak town. The medium rare rib eye I ordered came out medium well and very lacking of any flavor, much like a steak that has been frozen for a long period of time. The service, again just ok. Basically the times we have been there, I just didnt feel good about signing that check. Now keep in mind, I have no problem at all with a $250 check at Le Fou Frog or even similar amount tabs at say Grand Street Café or Kyoto...but at Bristol Ive always felt unsatisfied. Just not a favorite of ours

My husband and I went there for a date night last week! As usual I cant say enough great things about the drinks, appetizers and food. We set at the bar as the atmosphere is perfect....quiet, dark and romantic! OPS....not this time:-( Within an hour of a start to a very expensive date night, two women and a little boy pulled up to the bar. The couple four seats down from us ask if they could change places. So of course one side of the bar was completely empty but the chairs right next to us most have looked inviting. The little boy got bored quickly and the women were going overboard to quiet him, making them both loud...louder then the little boy. We quickly ask for our check and left. I called the manager and he had an attitude. Not worth me spoiling the rest of our evening by debating with him. This high end restaurant should not allow children at the bar. I certainly dont understand why parents would even want their children to sit at a bar. We will not be back, way to many other great and pricey restaurants we can go to next time.

Went to Bristols on a Sunday evening to celebrate a friends birthday. They brought the wine, which we purchased a bottle, then it all went downhill from there. We were seated on the patio and waited an hour with no further service other than a nice young woman who was going around passing out biscuits. No one came to check on us or take our order. There was a waitress who was attending the other two tables...obviously, we had no food and were still sitting there with our big giant paper menus. Finally we flagged her down, she offered no apology, just rather flippantly stated she thought we had another waiter or something... I found their food to be grossly over priced for the quality and flavor. Ill never go back, there are too many other truly good places to eat in Kansas City. Take my advice, go to Avenues Bistro instead for great food, great service.

The food was fantastic! I had the crab cakes, which were really good; my grandfather had the almond crusted tilapia, which he really liked.. someone else had the lobster roll, but weve both had better (in Atlanta and LA). The mussels were ok.. not the worst, nor the best.. the broth could be better. However, the service was horrible. It was my grandfathers birthday and we reserved it as such. I was so impressed they decorated the table for him, but the servers never acknowledged or asked about whos birthday it was!! They asked one or two people at the table (out of 10) how everything was and if they could get them anything else, but most of us they didnt care to look at or tend to at all. They spent most of the time standing at the server station talking to each other. If it werent for the terrible service, I would have given this restaurant 5 stars

I was in town for a few days on business last year and decided to stop by Bristols for a quick lunch with a few coworkers. Packed to the brim, I was seated at the bar and was recommended the Bluenose from New Zealand by the barman, with a bed of pasta and vegetables, with house sriracha sauce. I can say without a doubt that this is the best meal I had in several years. The fish was absolutely perfect, a flaky half grilled half steamed lightly seasoned almost salmon-like white fish, and with a al dente plate of pasta with freshly grilled vegetables and piquant from the sauce. I contemplated ordering another dish because it was THAT good. My coworkers had lobster and crab cakes and they liked them. If I ever have the fortune of returning to Kansas, whilst I know BBQs are a staple in the region, it is very hard to beat this place.

First of all i dont usually post unless it is a good one. First I called for a reservation and told them i would be proposing. So i when i got there they table they had set us at was right near the door. It was cold and not the most romantic. When i asked to change seating they said we could sit by the bar. Secondly the ingredients were of great quality but the dishes were rather simple and i felt for such a steep price it would wow me. But honestly if you know how to cook anyone could probably acheive a more desirable dish at home for way less. Had high hopes for this place and kind of counted on them to help make my noght special. I want to add though that our server was great and made the night a little more special so thank you!
