We have eaten here several times in the past and loved it, so we thought we would be safe here on Valentines Day. My husband made the reservation several weeks in advance and we were both looking forward to it. What a disapointment!! They took out all the regular elegant tables and replaced them with cheap, tiny round tables that had galvanized steel legs poking out. We were not informed of any changes in seating when we made the reservation. Their usual decor is upscale and beautiful. You dont expect to eat at a card table when you pay this kind of money for dinner. Our waiter told us this was done to "accomodate" all the customers who wanted to eat there on this day. Not only were the tables replaced, but they also tried to cram as many into the space as possible. It left very little room for the wait staff to manouver and walkways that were extreamly narrow. We felt like we were eating on the freeway at rush hour! It was rediculous! We were seated at a table closest to the kitechen entrance, where two isles intersected. My husband was seated in the isle and said that his chair was kicked by about every third waiter. We must have looked miserable because a waiter (not our own) comented on how busy it was and if we felt like we were in a traffic jam. To add insult to injury we ate dinner overlooking not one but two rooms that had tables for large parties, both of which stood empty the entire time we were there. I dont know why they left two giant tables sitting empty all night long when they chould have removed those larger tables and better spaced out the smaller two person tables. I have to admit the seafood here is really good but that cannot make up for the ruined atmosphere. For me the final straw was when my husband was actually hit in the head by a tray from a passing waiter because the isle was so small and that waiter didnt bother to press his tray. Instead of being treated like the valued, loyal customers we are, we were treated like a two top to be turned as quickly as possible in any old greasy spoon. A supreamly disapointing experience for Valentines Day. In this economy I dont think any service industry has the luxury of taking their customers for granite. I hope their stunt paid off for them that night because we will NOT be returning. There are plenty of other very nice upscale experiences to be had in Kansas City.

The Bristol Seafood Grill has a pleasant ambience. That is where the pleasant experience stops. Our party included 11 people. The orders were taken and 15 minutes later one lady in our party realized that her order had not been taken. She had been missed. The food came and there was total confusion in delivering the food to the proper person in our group. My wife ordered chicken. I would think there chef would be able to cook a piece of chicken properly. The chicken was pink inside and had to be recooked. It was thrown in the microwave and returned to her a few minutes later. A friend of ours ordered a steak and asked for it to be cooked a medium well done. His steak came to him as more of a rare done. It had to be taken back and thrown in the microwave and cooked to a medium well as asked. When the steak came back to him cooked, it was very tough. I ordered a simple dinner of salmon on a bed of vegetables and fruit. The salmon was cooked properly except for the lack of any seasoning. Im glad that there was salt on the table. My wifes chicken dinner and my 8 oz piece of salmon was only $80.00. I cant imagine what the other people in our party had to pay. They had wine with there meal. If you want to throw a lot of good money after poorly prepared food, I highly recommend this Grill. Otherwise, I suggest that you stay away from this Grill.

I ordered the Seafood Mixed Grill and the Pardon My French. This is the first place where I have ever been served MOIST scallops...these were not dried out! Crab salad was delicious. The shrimp were perfectly grilled with just a bit of zip, and were not dried out like some grilled shrimps. The salmon was also moist and almost flaked just by looking at it! Im not a big salmon fan but I would eat this salmon again in a heartbeat. The potatoes and grilled asparagus were an excellent combination with this dish. A mild sauce as well as a spicy sauce come with this entree; both are very good but I opted for the mild. Even the biscuits and honey butter before the meal are melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Pardon My French is a sweet yet somewhat tangy martini, pleasant to all the senses and perfect for someone who prefers sweet over dry. It paired very well with my entree. Go alone and fall in love with the food, or take your loved one and let them fall in love with you all over again--you cant beat the food or the mood in this place. My dinner and two martinis brought my bill to nearly $70 plus tip, so its pricey but expect to get what you paid for...excellent food, service and atmosphere.

I have tried Bristol twice now and Im unimpressed. Slightly bland food, overpriced and slow service. My first trip I got the crab cakes appetizer. It was good but very small portions. I got the crusted tilapia for my entree and it was flavorless. I was very disappointed. My second trip I went for lunch and service was so slow. I was there for almost 45 min before my appetizer and salad arrived and another 30 minutes after that before meals arrived. It was not overly busy and there were only two people at my table. Definitely was not a "power" lunch. I ordered the shrimp tempura sushi roll for an appetizer. It was okay. Definitely better at a sushi restaurant for a lower price. The lobster macaroni and cheese was pretty good but definitely not worth the wait. The rolls are absolutely delicious and about the only thing Ive tried so far that is worth coming back. After the long wait for food today, I will not be coming back.

Bristol Seafood Grill is one of our special evening out places so we choise it for my 89th birthday dinner. It lived up to all our expectations. Check in is very welcoming and by the time we were seated they had little festive decorations on the table and a card for a free champaign toast at the table. We ordered oysters as a starter (always our beginning of a Bristol meal.) Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with suggestions. I had seared scallops and my husband the crab cakes as our entrees. Both perfectly done. I always choose the mashed potatoes and am never disappointed. For dessert we choise the Creme Brullee to share. Great evening and many thanks for treating me on my birthday. I hope to make the 89th. Betty Nicholas

Fresh seafood in Kansas City, MO is kind of a ridiculous sounding concept. However the Bristol always seems to hit the spot when Im in the mood for something fresh, flavorful and elegant. With all the horrible chain restaurants and bars in the Power & Light district it can be hard finding somewhere I want to return to, but I dont have a problem with the Bristol, Ive never had a bad meal there, the seafood is never disappointing and the service is always quite excellent and accommodating. Ive had everything from crab legs to swordfish to sockeye and its always good. Also, they have a pretty decent wine menu which helps. In addition, their carrot cake dessert is huge and super rich, cant go wrong with it.
