I have become a regular at the sushi bar. I mainly go for the sashimi and a sampling of chefs recommendations. It is always a great time with lots of conversation and watching the chefs in action. I find it is best to tell the chef to surprise me. I let the chef take me on a journey. I admit to being a bit of a purist and rarely eat maki. However I have watched many work their magic on rolled sushi, and Hokkaido has always been inventive and consistent. They have been fairly busy when I have been there. I have not eaten at a table. I like front row seat at the bar where I can observe and comment. It is my favorite afternoon treat. Watching edible art being made, your head full of the scent of fresh fish, rice wasabi soy sauce and pickled gari. A slow unfolding of the spirit, sharing thoughts about beauty, life, and the way of the knife. It is better than a visit to a spa.

I am a Michigan City Resident. This Place is EXCELLENT. It is one of the best sushi places I have ever had! Red Dragon roll, Godzilla roll, Shrimp tempura, California rolls are all amazing! The raw spicy tuna and raw steak is surprisingly amazing. I was never a sashimi fan but this place is so good it opened me up to all sushi! Give this place a chance worth the drive! Its a basic storefront. This place eminence is amazing for the location.

Great food and the staff was great! We had the Godzilla roll and the Butterfly roll. The butterfly roll was awesome. The server helped us choose and he was fantastic as a server. Food was great! Price was a little high but its located downtown and at dinner. Expected I suppose. Would eat there again and great family option.

My husband and I visited here on one of our date nights. It was busy, but we were able to sit at the sushi bar upon arrival. We loved it! The food was great, the atmosphere was awesome, and the guys making sushi were a joy to watch. They made the experience, in my opinion.

I know of several good Sushi joints within 30 miles of my residence. Hokkaido is the best one by a long shot!!! It also happens to be the closest to me, which is very convenient. I love this place. If you like sushi, you will love Hokkaido too.
