We visited The Turn House on Tuesday for Happy Hour. When we arrived there really was just one other person at the bar with us. I am so saddened to say that our experience was just okay. Perhaps my expectations were just too high. I have been following them on Instagram for a while and had added them to my "Places to Try" Collection so I was really looking forward to dining with them as they really do have a nice IG page. When we arrived, we found that the restaurant is housed with the Hobbits Glen Golf Club. Im not sure how I missed this part but not a problem at all. Im sure the course provides a nice view for those sitting outside and the clubhouse is nicely decorated as well. Tuesday is Buck-A-Shuck Tuesday from 4pm to close with $1 Oysters, $5 Select Drafts and $5 Prosecco. I ordered six oysters and we also ordered a Willow Bottom Lager as well as a Skipjack . All were very good. Its my understanding that the happy hour $5 draft selections rotate. I, unfortunately, dont remember the type of oysters but they were from the Bay/VA area. They were a bit salty and medium sized. Additionally, we ordered the Honey Old Bay wings, chips and a Meat and Cheese Slate. The wings were very good as well. They were fried hard just the way that I like them. I expected fresh, hot chips especially since they werent immediately brought out after we ordered them. They were not hot or even warm and most of them were overcooked. Now for the most disappointing part...my meat and cheese slate. On the HH menu you can choose three meats and/or cheeses out of about seven meat options and probably about seven cheese options. I chose Prosciutto, Lomo and the Grafton Cheddar. The slate also is supposed to come with almonds, a pickled veggie (onions I think), sauces and sourdough. For the life of me, I still cannot understand why it took basically twenty minutes for our slate to be brought out. I promise this is no exaggeration and it was delivered with no pickled onion which is one of my favorite things. The meats and cheese all were tasty but in my opinion the slate was overpriced and did not compare to slates Ive tried at other area restaurants. But 20 minutes for meats that were already cured forever ago and a slice of cheese. How long does it take to toast sourdough and plate a slate? I will say that the most pleasant part of our experience was our bartender Katie (with an "ie"). She took excellent care of us explaining the drafts, meats and cheeses. If Tuesday had not been her last day, I probably would definitely return sooner than later just to chat with her. It appeared that she will be missed by quite a few folks based on the few goodbyes we witnessed while there. (Have fun in Texas Kat-ie!) The meat and slate incident coupled with the lack of ambiance (it seriously was no life there other than a nice lady sitting beside me who was very animated but she left and there went that) in the bar area are the reasons that allowed me to only give The Turn House three stars, although I do believe that the restaurant appeared to have all of the pieces to make it amazing. Eventually more diners began to trickle in. Most appearing to be after golfing. Maybe the restaurant gets really busy in the evening because there seemed to be way more server staff than needed at the time we were there. Most of them were just standing near the corner of the bar. The dining area is much larger than it appears extending into two additional dining rooms I believe and of course I had to check the restroom and that was very clean and decorative as well. Oh and I no nothing about whiskey but they did have quite a whiskey collection too! Perhaps I will return at some point, maybe for dinner but for now I will close this review wishing that my experience was better. **I also posted this review on Yelp. I gave it 2 Stars there, however, only because of the desciptions associated with their Star Rating System. I believe that three stars here is appropriate. I also reduced the length of this review based on Maps character limits.

Went to the Turn House last night and I had to go online and let everybody know how great this restaurant is. I met a friend out for dinner and drinks and couldnt be any happier with our choice. First the setting. The restaurant overlooks a beautiful golf course, which is just beautiful to look down at. You can sit outside (fire pit!!!) and enjoy drinks and a meal or you can be seated inside the dining room or expansive bar. You cannot go wrong wherever you sit! After ordering some nice wine, which was suggested by Chef Thomas himself, we started with a cheese plate and some crab dip (out of this world). For my entree, I had Pasta Alamatriciana with chicken, which was just the right amount of spicy and had so many different delicious flavors, it seemed like I had 3 different entrees at once! My friend ordered the Flank Steak. He said it was perfectly cooked (which is a rarity) and unbelievably tender. For dessert, we decided to have some homemade vanilla ice cream and apple crisp. Yum pretty much sums it up. My friend came here when it was under different ownership and he said the place has "jumped to a whole new level". I absolutely loved this restaurant and cannot wait to be back in the area to try the other goodies on the menu. Bravo Chef Thomas!!!!

Had our first experience at the new Turn House today. We frequented the Coho Grill while living in Columbia and anxiously awaited the opening. The restaurant is beautiful; the renovations are spectacular, and the atmosphere is friendly. However, thats where it ended. Our food took forever to arrive, due to a large party in another room that caused short staffing. There was only one other party in our room, but no one seemed to be available. Our waiter, Danny, was attentive and polite and tried to make us comfortable. He apologized for the delay, saying they had only one chef. My friends burger was over well done...he asked for medium...and my eggs were exactly like I asked him NOT to have them made...burned around the edges. We were so disappointed. I hope this was just a bad first experience and that theyll iron out the problems. If you advertise a Sunday Brunch, folks, you need to be ready for it. I do wish you success though.Would love to come back again.

The Turn House is not only beautifully updated but awesomely delicious. I cant think of another restaurant with such ambiance in Columbia. For the long-time Columbia residents, theres no trace of what used to be Coho Grill. The NY strip was cooked to perfection, and the oysters were fresh. But the best part of our meal was the sides. The charred broccoli had the just right crunchy snap that it didnt need its romesco sauce, though the sauce itself earned its own merit. The frites accompanying the steak were the best steak fries I had in a long time...or ever. From the inviting fire and hot chocolate station at the entrance to the French press coffee after our meal, it was a lovely evening. Their service was good but on the slow side so dont go there if you have plans after dinner.

Ive been here many times and am never disappointed! Last night we had the appetizer special, banana peppers sauteed over ricotta I think on toast - so yummy! They we had the hamachi yellow tail - amazing and Im not a fan of sushi. Our waiter helped us out with meats and cheese for our meat and cheese plate - spot on! Other favorites to try - the burratta cheese appetizer, the pimento dip. I cant say enough about the scallops, I have never liked them but here Ive had them three times, they melt in your mouth! The sweet potato soup is delicious. Whenever you go the food will be seasonal and prepared beautifully. Oh and the steak tartare - yummm! Best grapefruit crush Ive found by far. What a prize for Howard County!
