The Scenic View Restaurant just south of Bloomington is all in the name, perched on a hill with a wonderful view of Lake Monroe. There is inside and outside seating, and I have been going there for years--but maybe not any more. I arrived with a total of eight extended family members for Sunday brunch. It was a magnificent southern Indiana autumn day--deep azure cloudless sky, air crisp and dry to the inhalation and the touch, just warm enough to sit outside in the sun. We were ushered to the patio and offered a spot to sit under a large tent at two picnic tables. The tables were away from the eponymous scenic view, and chilled by the umbral covering. There were several empty tables perched in the bright sunshine, and there were even four tables pushed together that would have easily accommodated us. I, foolishly unaware of Schmuckinsky Code, asked the waitress if we could sit there. No, she declared, it is forbidden to move tables together. And yet, I replied, those tables have in fact already been moved together. Yes, she avered, but that was done by the previous guests against specific orders not to do so! Well, I pleaded, it is a beautiful day, I have brought a party of eight family members to enjoy a lovely brunch in the sun, I assure you we are not hooligans and shall not misbehave and, after all, we are the customers asking politely for a reasonable accommodation. I will have to speak with the manager, she replied, had hied away. Just at that moment I espied another employee separating the tables. Please, I entreated, I have just asked this young women to inquire of the management as to waiving the no moving table edict to accommodate my hungry family. No, he said, that is the rule. Out of curiosity, I asked, what is the rationale for this policy? He muttered something about damaging the tables--the black wrought-iron tables, such as one might purchase at the Wall Mart. Unfortunately, the rather mediocre fare did not improve the mood of the clan. My dear sister in law and I sat out in the sunshine at one table, the remainder shivered in the shadows. We made the best of things, but such seemingly Teutonic rigidity is quite out of place in the affable terrain of the Hoosier State. As a long time customer who has enjoyed this spot for years, my recommendation to the management is to seek help in removing the obstruction which prevents you from enjoying a big more bewegunsfreiheit. Might I suggest a proctologist?

Arrived at 705 pm, we watched while others came in and were served while we werent even approached. 730 the manager came and apologized but we still waited another 10 minutes before a waiter took our order of a simple view burger and 2 orders of fries. It was 8 pm before the food arrived. One batch of fries was cold. Had to ask for a refill of tea. The manager needs training in customer service. At very least we should have been offered a free appitizer. At most a free meal, we were offered nothing. When our order was taken it should have been placed in front of those that arrived after we did, absolutely nothing was done right with this meal. We have been here 5 times in as many weeks and have never had an experience such as this. Doubt we will return

Man i thought this was ginna be a nice place to eat.Not. the service sucked. I had to keep finding my waiter twice. To ask for more water to warm up the coffee. He didnt come an ask us did we need anyting. We order the crab mac an chees. Horrible. The crabcake was mushy no crab what so ever. It was a frozen crabcake. All the other wait staff sucked as well. They were just sitting around talking about schedule an school. But the worst thing of all was all the flies an ants that were very visible. I swatted more flies then i could enjoy my food. We ordered a martini an it was not in a martini glass. Horrible service an food. Im not sure what his name is but he needs to go back to training. It was our first time there an it sucked really bad. #FliesanAnts

We came in for Sunday brunch and loved it! Couldnt stop raving about the food while we were eating and sharing each others plates. At most places, breakfast is the same old 3 egg omelet and greasy hash browns, but the menu here actually has some thought put into it. I was impressed that each of our entrees (5 of us) was made better than what I could have made at home. We will be returning for sure. I see other reviews complaining about the service. We were there to spend time with each other and were not paying attention to the time, but I did notice as business picked up things did seem to slow down, so maybe if your trying to get in and out quickly, this would not be the place to go, but if you want to relax and have a nice meal then this is it.

Ok, been there twice and thought Id share my two cents. Its not Prime 47 or anything! but its cool. The service does sort of suck but the drinks are awesome! And theyre usually discounted because its a weekend or a Monday. Go for the view, the drinks and the kick ass bartender with the soccer player Mohawk hair cut! Ok, ok, the servers are cool too, but just dont give two shits about making your visit the perfect pretentious delightful "Im special treatment", no one should want that. Be people, people, come on. The food is pretty good for the price, the view is great for the location, the environment has character for the area and the people have enough humor to have some fun! Thats all you need.

My boyfriend and I eat at the view every Sunday. They have the best breakfast in town, along with some decent coffee (which is very important to me.). Bloody Marys are half off on Sunday, which my partner LOVES. He claims they are the best bloodys in btown. however, I have received bad service from only ONE waitress...the rest of the waitresses are very attentive and friendly. When we come in hungover, our water glasses stay full (also VERY important.) we will confine to eat at the view every Sunday...in fact...Im headed that way right now :)

Scenic View is aptly named. There is a great view. They do a good job withe the food, the beer list is better than average, and the staff is friendly. They have a short bar, indoor and outdoor seating, and it is clean. They even have a super foods salad, but it has eggs and cheese, but they can be withheld. The menu is non-standard and has a wide variety of plates, but the menu is not huge. I have tried a few things here and have not been disappointed.

Just had Sunday brunch at Scenic View. From time we arrived until our food arrived was 65 minutes. After 50 minutes I asked server to check on the status of our meal, but she seemed totally unconcerned. The food was mediocre at best. Management was nonexistent during our visit. The only thing good about the Scenic View is the view of Lake Monroe in the distance. Avoid this place completely if you want decent service.

We were sat down and then nobody came to our table to take drink orders, meanwhile the waitstaff, including the manager, stood around the bar talking. Appetizer was brought out with a hair on it. The soda fountain was malfunctioning so none of the soda tasted right. Entrees were mediocre at best and nowhere near worth the price. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND WONT BE RETURNING!!
