To whom it may concern, I am writing to you to share my experience at your restaurant, Kooma in West Chester, with hopes that this experience doesnt happen to any other customer. I will start by saying I am a huge fan of Kooma and come about 3-5 times a month. On this particular evening, Tuesday (5/2/17) our experience was a complete disappointment. When we were seated, we ordered 4 glasses of wine and some waters. It took about 26 minutes for our wine to reach the table. My colleagues drink took so long she asked if she could get a red wine instead of the white, but the server said she couldnt switch because the drinks were being made. That was the first issue, but we said it wasnt a big deal and she drank the white. As a waitress myself, if a customer ever requested a drink change, we would immediately accommodate to what they want, after all, they are paying for their wine and their experience. Then, we ordered calamari that took over 35 minutes to come out, but we assumed the server forgot to put it in or perhaps it was his first night serving, because it was a slow Tuesday evening. Which then meant that my sweet potato roll and shrimp tempura roll were both cold and hard when they came out. Then, our sushi came out on a huge platter, instead of our own plates. We all ordered separately and never said we wanted it on one plate. A different server came over and took the platter back and separated our individual orders so we could all finally eat. Then, a colleague of mine found a long hair entangled in her sushi. We notified our server and he took the sushi to the manager who then, instead of going to the back kitchen to examine the hair, he slowly pulls it out in front of everyone eating, and other tables where all looking with a face of disgust, as they are trying to enjoy their own sushi from that same kitchen. The manager then comes to our table and puts the hair close to her face and says, "Im sorry you found a hair in your food, but its blonde and you have blonde hair." Who says that? First of all, its was not hers because it was entangled in the sushi. Then he brings her out a new roll, but only one roll... she had ordered two. Finally, after all of this my friends husband asked for a box to put his leftover chicken teriyaki and he finds a curly long black hair in the leftovers, after he ate the entire meal with it in there. At this point I was waiting for the hidden cameras to come out and us to be told we were on a prank TV show. We call the manager over AGAIN and show him. He then takes it back for about 5 minutes then returns to table to say that the hair was "actually part of the food they use to bake, but looks a lot like hair." or some complete bogus reason. Sir it was hair, we all held our camera flashlights up to it, it was a long curly black hair. I am hoping no one else has an experience like this, because it was a complete waste of $128. The way the manager handled it could have completely changed our experience. Even if the hair was the same color as the customers hair, you do not say that. Thank you for your time and I hope this issue can be addressed so it doesnt happen again. I would like to redo our visit with a better experience. Jordan Baxter 610-476-0364

We ate an early dinner at Kooma on a Saturday evening. We ordered several sushi rolls, a couple pieces of nigiri, and a bottle of sake. The food and drink was wonderful. The sushi was incredibly fresh tasting and the rolls had been prepared so that the rice had the perfect amount of stickiness to keep everything together nicely....something thats hard to come by in the Midwest. We noticed that some of the menu items had the same names as the unique items from Mr. Sushi in Dublin. We inquired about this and were informed that the sushi chef from Mr. Sushi is friends with the Kooma sushi chef and they shared techniques and recipes. The restaurant is very small: maybe seats 25 not including the bar which seats another 5 or so. The lighting is dim and the decor is dark, creating an intimate atmosphere. Despite the relatively rowdy group sitting near us, noise was not a problem. I would recommend this restaurant to the hip, urban crowd looking for a relatively private location to share some excellent sushi. The only complaint I have is that upon exiting the restaurant, my wife and I were overwhelmed by the smell of either rotting or old fish. This made our stomachs turn just after thoroughly enjoying our dinner. Im hoping that this was the trash behind the building that was wafting toward the entrance, but regardless of what it was, it needs to be controlled!

This has been the worst service and experience I have had eating anywhere in Columbus. Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere, anywhere else in town. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:10 pm and did not have an order taken until well after 8. We finally received our food at 9:10pm. During this time I received 1 water refill and that was after asking 4 times. One of the members of my party approached the owner about the quality of service. He blamed his waitress, and told us we could accept 30% off or we could leave before we got our food. We had been waiting for almost 2 hours at that point. Some of the sushi may have been okay (mine wasnt) but when it sits out for 20 minutes, and is delivered at near room temperature, its really not edible. Smallest Spider Roll Ive ever had, very poor presentation. The service and quality of food combined were beyond unacceptable. The bathroom was disgusting and filthy, smelled like it had not been cleaned in weeks or more. The owner was rude and had no concern for making our experience right at all. If I could give this place negative stars, I would.

Like a little Short North secret, even after who-knows how long its been there. Although Kooma has a small dining room with a sometimes overloaded sushi chef, its got great food (that includes sushi and non-sushi offerings) and good service. The frequent DJ and the nice little bar are nice, too. PARKING TIP: Kooma validates - if you print a ticket and tell the garage attendant (next door deck) youre going to the restaurant hell let you in. Its not free, but much less than the "event" price thats usually in effect.

I was not impressed with this places sushi. Most of the rolls have a california roll base, which is fine if youre not looking for, well, variety. For their prices, I expected a lot more diversity like tuna, salmon, yellowtail..anything other than California rolls over and over again with slightly different toppings. That being said, their cooked food is fantastic. I would definitely come here again, but it would not be for the sushi.

Went here three times during the Arnold classic. relatively fast service considering how busy the place was. The food was all amazing, My husband got the Kinky roll and I got different types of California rolls, the seaweed salad was a rip off because they layered the bottom with iceberg lettuce and it wasnt that much to start with. Sushi value was decent though. Expect to spend 20-25$ a person on a meal. Overall a good restaurant.
