Hirosaki has been one of my familys favorite sushi/hibachi restaurants in Indiana. However, the last couple times we have been, the service has been very slow, and our latest visit, down-right awful. Inside the door: We had to wait at least 5 minutes for a host to even show up for us to give our name to. We said we would like to sit at the bar and have a drink while we wait for our table. At the bar: As we walked in, there were high top tables and regular 2-person tables covered with linens waiting to be folded. The far wall was piled high with boxes of appliances (it looked like a store-room). the far side of the bar was littered with papers and looked like the managers office. The whole scene completely distracted from their potentially lovely atmosphere. We waited at least 10 minutes before I finally caught one of the servers and said wed like a drink menu and some water. The person sitting next to us gave us his menu. We ordered hot sake and they poured it right there for us. But apparently they didnt have any water behind the bar!!!!???? What???!!!!! While we were at the bar, a group of friends of one of the servers arrived and all of them took a shot of sake (server included). I later noticed that this same group got seated, ate and left before we even received our food. In the restaurant: After much debating behind the bar about who could take us, we were finally seated. It appeared, based on all the empty tables, that there were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant. Once we finally received our water, we had been waiting on it for 45 minutes. The food: The sushi took longer than usual to arrive, but since we were without our kids, we didnt mind. The sushi, as always, was delicious. We have never had bad food at Hirosaki. The service: Once seated at our table, the service was ok. We will probably try Hirosaki again, but if we have another experience like this, never again. I cant believe how down-hill the service has gone at this restaurant :(

Took my family there for their first experience at a hibachi grill. I have been to others in different cities, but this was my first time going here as well. My initial impressions were good... Until the food was brought out to the hibachi station where we were seated. I glanced down and noticed that all of the uncooked meat - steak, chicken, and shrimp was piled together on top of what looked like an old green cafeteria serving tray. By old, by mean missing chunks from it, color faded where they regularly place the meat. I decided not to make a fuss about it and assumed that they had cleaned everything properly. In hindsight, I should have taken my family and left. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium, and it was delicious. All the food tasted fine. The chicken looked like it was cooked properly. The shashimi we ordered separately also tasted fine. My son felt slightly ill not long after we left. Complaining mildly about a tummy ache. He went to bed that night and went to school the next morning. Also complaining about a a mildly upset stomach. He didnt make it past 9am. My child was crying/screaming in pain at the nurses station. We brought him home and he spent the next full day being horribly sick. The rest of us fell ill not long after. A magical family experience of being up all night with projectile vomiting and diarrhea... All night long, into the next day as well. What I can only assume is that there was cross-contamination of mis-handled raw meat and seafood that caused our illness. Again, I have been to several grills and noted that the uncooked product was kept in stainless steel bowls, and separated. This is the first time in which I have fallen ill from eating a sushi/Japanese steakhouse. I will continue to go to others, just not this one obviously.

My husband and I visited this restaurant for the second time tonight & it was a horrible experience. The first time wasnt great- but nothing to overly complain about (the rice was so greasy & diced up so much, you couldnt really tell it was fried rice). We went there to eat sushi & not only did they forget one of my sushi orders, the side of fried rice I ordered came out wrong. When I notified the waitress, she brought the rice out (15 minutes later) and it was barely warm, they simply picked the pieces of chicken off instead of making me a fresh order of vegetable fried rice. The reason I know this is because there were still chicken peices in it along with a black hair. After finishing the rice, I politely asked the manager (who was making the sushi at that time) that I ordered another order of sushi and asked if she knew to make it and she completely blew me off! What kind of service is that?? Im not one to really complain about this type of thing, but when you get bad service, its more that just leaving a "bad" tip- when you go to spend good money at what appears to be a nice restaurant, you expect to be treated like a valued customer.

Comfortable, warm romantic atmosphere. Hibachi grill was cool we did not sit at the grill as my wife and I like more of a quiet corner booth than a front and center table. But would come back with friends to share the actual hibachi experience. Sushi was great. Very tasty, fresh and all food ordered was good. Sake was great. All food has a fresh original flavor too it nothing tastes process or frozen. If u have never ate sushi dont blame the restaurant for your stomach bug. eating raw fish can cause some stomach issues if ur not used to it. The tables were clean, the booths were plush, the waitresses brought the food in a timely manner with sides first and then the main course after which is great cause u usually show up to a restaurant ready to eat and having the quick sides is a nice plus for sushi people! I will definitely come back again great job ! Also it would be nice to see people that come to a nice restaurant to dress appropriately the only complaint I would have is the guest that visit come highly under dressed this is a classy place !

This place was great once. However, they changed their recipes. Everything tastes different and not in a good way. They put hondashi in the onion soup, so it tastes like fish. That is a shame because the soup was one of my favorites. Theyre using different sauces to flavor the food so that its bland compared to the teriyaki flavors that once graced my plate. Not even the fried rice tastes as good. Now the service. The service was never the best, but it was acceptable. The past two times Ive gone to Hirosaki, its been lacking entirely. When I called in my order and asked for fried rice, they gave me white rice. When with my family dining in a short time later, getting a refill took prodding the waitress (twice). Waiting for the chef was a good twenty minute wait (which has been typical). I dont recommend going to this place. There are other hibachi restaurants within 10 minutes with better food and service.
