My wife and I "dined" there tonight. We were immediately seated. Our waitress Nika(?) took our drink order and our sushi menu. No problem there. I always order filet, shrimp, and scallops at any Japanese restaurant that I go to. If it is not on the menu, it is a small upcharge. I asked our waitress about the upcharge and she said she would ask. 10 minutes later she asks for our order. I AGAIN ask her about the upcharge and she vanishes again. She appears after some time and says that it would be a $1 upcharge from the standard steak. No problem. Sushi was delivered. Average to slightly below average quality. Table chef was very good although they skimp on the fried rice. He cooked well and engaged the other diners. Now for the check. It was brought out. She overcharged us for the meals and charged us for an extra beverage. We called her attention to it and she hurried off. At this point everyone else at the table has left. Another group is seated at an adjacent table. We ask that waiter to check on our waitress. Several minutes later they send a front-house worker to us to explain that our waitress was new and that the upcharge would be $2 per person and they COULD NOT change that. Really? She gives us the bill. The extra beverage is still on there. We brought it to her attention. She hurries off. 15 minutes more elapse. Finally, a female manager comes to us. She gives us the check, apologizes again, and says that they CANNOT change the upcharge. They are adamant about a total of $2. Ridiculous! We just took it out of the gratuity. We will NOT be going to Sumo again. There are FAR better places not too far away. Go here if you wish to spend your money on bad service and lots of excuses.

First and foremost...Food is really good. Atmosphere is okay. drink prices are high. But heres what got them a 3 star rating for me. Tonight was our first time ordering to-go. Like most of my posts, I let everyone know that we order take-out A LOT because we have a 4 year old and 2 year old twins. Eating in just isnt feasible sometimes. So we order the hibachi shrimp and steak dinners to go... and Im all about truth in advertising. Online menu says you get with your dinner "soup, salad, vegetable, and fried or steamed rice." So I go to pick up, food was on time, I get my 2 bags and leave (Bath night at the house = pandemonium). Get home... No soup in either bag. So I call and say "This is Jonathan, I just ordered 2 dinners and didnt get either of our soups." Hostess says, "Oh, we dont give soup with to-go orders." Not what it says on the website, no disclaimer saying otherwise. I could have argued but didnt feel like it. Just thought I would write it here and let everyone know. Deceitful about that, could be other things. Make sure your ask if calling in because I cant stand a liar or deceitful business.

Manager took our debit cards after waiting for half hour we walked out in the hall on a table just sitting there no one around laid our debit cards when I spoke to the manager she was like I knew it was you she has never seen me I also picked up the other card also she acted like I was being ridiculous and I didnt know at the time she was the manager when I ask the hostess for the manager she informed me very rudely that was the manager I ask for the district managers name and number I was told she could not give out that information. It was my twins 8 year birthday and I will never go there again I am also contacting 6 on your side as well as BBB. If you go there pay with cash never with a debit credit card

Worst service EVER. I will not be eating here again. On a SLOW Monday night, we were seated at 7:30. Orders were placed around 7:35. Cook didnt start until 8:05. Sushi didnt arrive until 8:10, but when it did arrive, it was made incorrectly. Server didnt check to see if everything was alright and we didnt want to wait another 35 minutes to get it remade, so we ended up eating it. I ended up packing it up the meal in a togo box. It was too late to eat that heavy. Didnt end up leaving Sumo until 9:00. Needless to say, my husband and I wont be back anytime soon!

The service was excellent! However, the food was incredibly lackluster. I was disappointed, because from the décor, the service, and the pricing, it had all the indications of being a high quality establishment. I got the chicken and scallops. The chef was entertaining, but my food did not have the explosive flavor I was looking for. I will say however, that the scallops were well cooked and not rubbery at all.

Service was good but the food was absolutely terrible the vegetables in the spring rolls tasted old got passed around to six different people before someone could tolerate it enough to eat and the crab Rangoon was just shredded crab no cream cheese everything is so outrageously priced costed over $100 for three people and two people shared one plate no alcoholic drinks were bought to contribute to the cost

This is one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to. I travel all over the country and have eaten at many sushi restaurants. I ordered their sashimi platter, which comes with 20 generously-sized pieces of fish, miso soup and a salad, all for about $22. The sashimi was all very fresh and had excellent flavor. If I am ever in Birmingham again, I know where I am going for dinner.

My family and I went there for dinner last night and it was an aweful experience. We have eaten there before and went back to give it a second chance. The cook was rude and made the entire experience aweful. Shrimp were undercooked, fried rice was dry and noodles were bland. Please spare yourself and drive the extra mile to STIX, will be the best decision you ever made.

The food is always ok. But every time you walk in the door you feel like you are an inconvenience. I hate going hear but every time I have a sushi craving Im always right here. Its always the hostess. You guys should invest in some better door greeters. BTW Not sure of her name but she is pregnant she is pretty awesome.

Rice was crunchy an had a burnt flavor and the shrimp was flavorless. About 15 minutes after leaving my husband I ended up getting very sick with stomach issues. Overall it was not a good experience when it came to the food. Service was good our server checked on us frequently and kept our drinks full.

My experience was OK.. I ordered the spicy salmon roll and fried rice, and the roll wasnt rolled very good and the spicy sauce on top was a little too much.. Never experienced anything like it... I liked the fried rice though (?) o.O Atmosphere was pretty cool, and location was amazing.

Just OK. Nothing special. Everything tastes exactly the same. A bit overpriced for the food quality. Only reason I gave it 3 stars was for the entertainment during the cooking. I would probably never eat here again, unless I went on a business trip and someone else paid for it.
